A bit late here...
Day 14:
Biathlon (men's relay): Tricky conditions at the shooting range at times, but we've gotten used to that by now. Sweden trains in Östersund, who often have similar conditions, and they've come prepared. 2 gold and 2 silver medals for Sweden in biathlon in Pyeongchang, I'm impressed.
We ended up getting the silver, and I think that's a good result.
There was also a question on the quiz here. How many extra shots would Norway need? I didn't know about the wind when I predicted, so I guessed 8. We had already 8 after the second leg, but I had hope until J.T. Bø needed 1 late in his second shooting. We ended up on 12, so no point for me.
Figure skating (ladies singles): ...
Freestyle (women's skicross): I've been thru this already, so I'm just moving on. Still love this sport tho.
Speed skating (men's 1000 m): We got ourselves another medal, as Håvard H. Lorentzen won the silver, but he was only 0.04 seconds behind the gold. We've had good results at the speed skating in these Olympics.
And this was also on the quiz, would Norway get a medal? I figured we had a chance, and guessed yes, and got a point.
Day 15:
Alpine skiing (mixed team): Great event, and some surprises. I thought Sweden would win this, so I was surprised to see them beaten by Austria in the quarterfinals. Not much room for mistakes in this event tho, which makes it pretty open. A good result for Norway as well, altho Nina Haver-Løseth was disappointed with the result in the semi, and her mistake probably cost out team the spot in the final. We won the bronze tho, after just beating France in the small final.
Cross-country skiing (men's 50 km): I had no intention of watching this, and because of both a party last night, and a daytime party that I'm going to now, I chose to sleep during this instead. Surprised to see that Norway ended without a medal tho, and looking at the time differences, this became a different race from what I had expected, as I was expecting a sprint at the end.
This was actually twice on the quiz, one regular question, and one that will be used as a tie-breaker in the end. The question was, who would win? My guess was Martin J. Sundby, so no point there. The tie-breaker is the winning time (2:08:22), where whoever came closest will be the winner of the quiz, among those with the same score. My guess was 2
30 (almost the bronze time), so I wasn't too far off, but with too many failed guesses the last couple of days, I don't think I would have won anyway. Which is fine, I don't need new cross-country skis, because I don't ski.
There's been a few surprises lately tho, so I might not be the only one who's not scoring points, so you never know... I guess we'll get the result on Monday.
Curling (men's): I've watched a bit of curling during the last couple of Olympics, but this time, I just couldn't find any interest. Not even the Norwegian matches...
This was on the quiz tho, who would win? My guess was Canada, but that didn't go too well. No point.
Snowboarding (men's big air): We had a guy in the final, Torgeir Bergrem from Klæbu (which is where I'm moving to late this year). But just like Kleveland in the qualifying, he failed to stick the landings when he really had to, and he ended 7th.
Snowboarding (men's and women's parallell giant slalom): Only really following this sport because of Ester Ledecká, and the question was, would she cope with the pressure, as everyone expected her to win this. The answer was yes, and she's now an Olympic champion in both alpine skiing and snowboarding. Incredible stuff!
Also nice to see a silver for Korea in the men's competition.
Speed skating (men's and women's mass start): One Norwegian in the men's event, but he wasn't really among the favorites. Failed to qualify to the final by just 1 point. Maybe a tactical mistake, he let the first sprint happen without him, and probably wanted to use the finish sprint to qualify. That didn't work, and he was out. Exciting to watch this tho, it's kinda like short track racing on a long track.
Don't really get the sprints tho, at least not in the final. Saskia Alusalu won the 3 first in the women's final, which gave her 15 points. The top 3 in the last sprint gets 60, 40 and 20, and as nobody else gets points in that sprint, it's completely irrelevant what happens earlier in the race, as those 15 points makes no difference at all. So what's the point? Anyway, congrats to all the winners, and a good team performance by the Korean guys.
Day 14: 2 silver
Day 15: 1 bronze
Not really liking this right now... We're still leading the medal table, but as I fear Germany will get the gold in the four-man bob, and might also shock again in the hockey, there's a risk that we won't win this after all, despite breaking records.
If we don't win the 30 km tomorrow, Germany will win this, regardless of hockey. Nice to have a fight going until the very end of the Olympics tho.
