Day 11:
Biathlon (mixed relay): Not the perfect start for us, after the first two legs, we were 1 minute and 30 seconds behind Germany, so to end up with a silver was incredible. :D And this was on the quiz at work, would Norway win? I didn't think so, and we were closer than I thought we'd be, but I got a point here.

Figure skating (ice dancing): Again, can't really comment on this...

Freestyle (women's halfpipe): Can't really say much about this either, but I saw it. Cassie Sharpe deserved winner. Also kinda fun that the medals went to the same countries, and in the same order, as the ice dancing. :)

Nordic combined (large hill / 10 km): Our biggest favorites had another bad day on the hill, and were too far behind before the skiing. But we had Riiber fighting for a medal until the end, and I hoped he would get a medal. I knew a gold would be tough, but there were chances for a medal there. But instead, 3 medals for Germany. Congrats, well done. :)
On the quiz, would Norway win? I actually thought we would, so no point for me here.

Short track speed skating (women's 3000 m relay): Oh, the drama. As this was also on the quiz (who would win?), I had someone to cheer for (and my guess was China), so when Korea messed up, I thought for sure they would get penalized, China would be crowned the winner, and I would get the point on the quiz. But instead, China got the penalty, and since Canada also got a penalty, The Netherlands rather surprisingly won the bronze after winning the B final. Well deserved tho, at least imo, as they set a new world record. :)

Day 11: 1 silver (and just ahead of Germany in the medal table)

you forgot your team's victory in men's hockeyxacademic

Not really. Apart from single matches that have been on the quiz at work, my updates have been for medal events only, and the hockey competition isn't over yet. ;) Also, I'm not really interested in hockey, and haven't seen any of the matches...

Some facts from last night's ice dance competition...

*Papadakis/Cizeron set a new world record for the free dance
*Virtue/Moir set a new world record for combined score (short dance/free dance)
*The Canadians are the first figure skaters in the history of the sport to win 5 Olympic medals (3 gold, 2 silver)
*The French team are the first ice dancers to win an Olympic medal for their country since Anissina/Peizerat in 2002
*Maia and Alex Shibutani are the first Asian-American skaters to win an Olympic ice dance medal
*The Americans are also the first sibling team to win an Olympic ice dance medal since the Duchesnays in 1992
*For the first time since ice dance made its Olympic debut, Russian/OAR teams were held off the podium

So proud of our hockey team xlove :de:

You get us next, so may the best team win! :ca::de:

We are on the cusp of double-digit gold medals after Brady Leman won men's ski cross. Also picked up a bronze in women's 2-man bobsled, and tonight we're guaranteed another medal (at least silver) in women's hockey against the Americans

And all out of sudden we're among the top 4 in ice hockey  Never would've happened with NHL in, but the swedish team was stronger anyway.

Now the canadian B squad awaits us JChan :D

Day 12:
Alpine skiing (women's downhill): Oh my god... When Ragnhild Mowinckel won the silver in the giant slalom, this was already a better Olympics for the women than I had expected. So seeing her do the same in downhill as well, was much more than I was prepared for. She seemed just as surprised as Ledecka, but unlike Ledecka, Mowinckel believed what she saw on the screens. :D Awesome race! :D
And this was also on the quiz, would Lindsey Vonn win? For me, this was a 50/50 between Goggia and Vonn, but I figured that in the end, Vonn's experience would be the deciding factor, and I thought Vonn would win. But she "only" got the bronze, Goggia won, and proved that I made the wrong choice. No point for me.

Bob (two-woman): One of my favorite sports, but since I didn't have any favorites, it was hard to find someone to cheer for. Ended up cheering a bit for the British "Mica" team, after learning that they had crowd-funded their way to the Olympics. Exciting battles for both the gold and the bronze tho, and given how Germany is chasing us in the medal table, I should maybe have hoped for the Americans to win. But I'm not complaining about the result, well done by everyone. :)

Cross country (men's and women's team sprint): Missed this, as I had a doctor's appointment, but wasn't really that interested in this anyway. Gold for the guys, bronze for the women, seem like a good result to be honest. Fun that USA won the women's competition (and not the Swedes). ;)
This event actually had 2 questions on the quiz. Who would go for Norway, both men and women? My guesses before the Olympics were Klæbo and Iversen for the guys, and Falla and Harsem for the women. I realized rather early in the Olympics that I wouldn't get the women right (Harsem seemed out of it), and unfortunately I didn't get the guys either. No points for me today. :(

Freestyle (men's skicross): Another of my favorite sports, and wow! The 1/8th finals were really dramatic, and normally I'd say I hope the injured guys were ok. But, I've done some research, and from what I found on a German site, it could have looked better...
Christopher Del Bosco, pelvic fracture. At 35 years old, I'm worried this is a career ender...
Terence Tchiknavorian, shin fracture.
Christoph Wahrstötter, concussion, and blackouts. Following Anna Holmlund's injury, as well as other head injuries in skicross and alpine skiing, this has me a bit worried. Hope he recovers, but his season is probably over, but I hope not his career.
The commentators said skicross has twice as many serious injuries than any other sport managed by FIS, and I don't doubt it. It's mayhem at times. I like to see action, but it's never fun to see people needing to be carried out on stretchers. So, not an awesome start of the event. Fortunately tho, no more bad crashes after the 1/8th finals. But I didn't have anyone to cheer for either, as all the Swedes (who I support in skicross) was knocked out of the competition early. Still, I enjoyed the rest of the finals, and look forward to the women's competition as well. :)

Speed skating (men's and women's team pursuit): Shocked that The Netherlands didn't win either of them. For the men tho, I guess that's our guys fault, for beating them in the semi final. And then they went on to win the final as well. :D We've been up there before, losing the B final twice to The Netherlands, but this was our first medal in this competition. Another piece of Norwegian history written in Pyeongchang. :D No Norwegian team in the women's competition this year, so I can't really say much about this.

Day 12: 2 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze
And with this, I've already lost out on another point on the quiz. How many gold medals would Norway win? I ended up guessing 12, but I've had a feeling for a while now, that we'd win more than that. And now we have 13. Wondering how close to 20 we'll get now, which is an insane number.

The performance of our ice hockey team is a wonderful surprise xheat Probably, they are still "favorite" for the hated 4th place but nevermind. At least now they can "reach for the stars"

In the meantime our bob pilots won our 12th gold medal. We will surely end up as the best 2nd placed country in medal table ever.

My prediction was:

In Total: 28 medals, 9 golden medals

Wow, my gold prediction was too pessimistic... I didn't mispredicted anything entirely.. I knew our biathletes, ski jumpers and combiners would win gold but not that many ... and I didnt guess Savchenko and Massot have a shot at winning gold

my prediction of total medals is closer to reality. We will win one more medal in Nordic combined and Bob (both should be gold) each and in both Biathlon relays (hopefully it will be gold for the girls) That's 4-6 already (depending on how many Germans will get a medal in four-men bob) What else is left? Sure the Ice hockey men look quite good.. Moreover we've got chances in Snowboard in the girls giant slalom event on saturday... actually we have two girls there fighting for the medal. Not sure how the Alpine skiing team event works, but we are not good enough, I guess?
Anyway, I think we will slightly surpass my prediction of 28 medals. And I thought 28 is already overestimated

Can't fight the good old German lack of luck
7 x 4th (We can already add the Ice Hockey guys here too, I guess) and 9 x 5th - Olympic Champions at just missing out.

I'm so happy for our curling men xlove So many unlikely wins in a row, and they're one more away from pulling off a medal xheart (plus I have this really weird, inexplicable thing for Matt Hamilton so if he medals I'll be very proud of him)

I can't be bitter about that. Especially with all the golden medals. The sports promotion works better than expected. Anything but gold seems a disappointment for the athletes
And I would like to know how many 4th places, Norway, Canada, Austria or the US collected so far.

And I wouldn't rule out the hockey men. Sure, we never expected something from Germany, but in this tournament they can actually beat Canada or the Czech I guess

Well I wouldn't call it being bitter. I just feel very sorry for those who missed out because clearly they had the potential for more. (a 4th or 5th place ofc is by no means a bad result) The amount of gold medals the German team won so far is amazing - there is no doubt about that.

Norway: 10 x 4th and 4 x 5th
Canada: 4 x 4th and 6 x 5th
Austria: 6 x 4th and 1 x 5th
USA: 10 x 4th and 12 x 5th

Ah. Okay. Well, of course it's sad for the athletes, but thats the deal. There are just 3 medals, and most athletes know that a 4th or 5th place is considered a great result in world cup.

According to your research we should feel more sorry for the norwegians and US athletes^^

Something positive in all these 4th and 5th places for the German team is the fact that most of the athletes are still very young and some of them were competing in their first Olympics - a promising future, I suppose.
