Day 12:
Alpine skiing (women's downhill): Oh my god...
When Ragnhild Mowinckel won the silver in the giant slalom, this was already a better Olympics for the women than I had expected. So seeing her do the same in downhill as well, was much more than I was prepared for. She seemed just as surprised as Ledecka, but unlike Ledecka, Mowinckel believed what she saw on the screens.
Awesome race!
And this was also on the quiz, would Lindsey Vonn win? For me, this was a 50/50 between Goggia and Vonn, but I figured that in the end, Vonn's experience would be the deciding factor, and I thought Vonn would win. But she "only" got the bronze, Goggia won, and proved that I made the wrong choice. No point for me.
Bob (two-woman): One of my favorite sports, but since I didn't have any favorites, it was hard to find someone to cheer for. Ended up cheering a bit for the British "Mica" team, after learning that they had crowd-funded their way to the Olympics. Exciting battles for both the gold and the bronze tho, and given how Germany is chasing us in the medal table, I should maybe have hoped for the Americans to win. But I'm not complaining about the result, well done by everyone.
Cross country (men's and women's team sprint): Missed this, as I had a doctor's appointment, but wasn't really that interested in this anyway. Gold for the guys, bronze for the women, seem like a good result to be honest. Fun that USA won the women's competition (and not the Swedes).
This event actually had 2 questions on the quiz. Who would go for Norway, both men and women? My guesses before the Olympics were Klæbo and Iversen for the guys, and Falla and Harsem for the women. I realized rather early in the Olympics that I wouldn't get the women right (Harsem seemed out of it), and unfortunately I didn't get the guys either. No points for me today.
Freestyle (men's skicross): Another of my favorite sports, and wow! The 1/8th finals were really dramatic, and normally I'd say I hope the injured guys were ok. But, I've done some research, and from what I found on a German site, it could have looked better...
Christopher Del Bosco, pelvic fracture. At 35 years old, I'm worried this is a career ender...
Terence Tchiknavorian, shin fracture.
Christoph Wahrstötter, concussion, and blackouts. Following Anna Holmlund's injury, as well as other head injuries in skicross and alpine skiing, this has me a bit worried. Hope he recovers, but his season is probably over, but I hope not his career.
The commentators said skicross has twice as many serious injuries than any other sport managed by FIS, and I don't doubt it. It's mayhem at times. I like to see action, but it's never fun to see people needing to be carried out on stretchers. So, not an awesome start of the event. Fortunately tho, no more bad crashes after the 1/8th finals. But I didn't have anyone to cheer for either, as all the Swedes (who I support in skicross) was knocked out of the competition early. Still, I enjoyed the rest of the finals, and look forward to the women's competition as well.
Speed skating (men's and women's team pursuit): Shocked that The Netherlands didn't win either of them. For the men tho, I guess that's our guys fault, for beating them in the semi final. And then they went on to win the final as well.
We've been up there before, losing the B final twice to The Netherlands, but this was our first medal in this competition. Another piece of Norwegian history written in Pyeongchang.
No Norwegian team in the women's competition this year, so I can't really say much about this.
Day 12: 2 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze
And with this, I've already lost out on another point on the quiz. How many gold medals would Norway win? I ended up guessing 12, but I've had a feeling for a while now, that we'd win more than that. And now we have 13. Wondering how close to 20 we'll get now, which is an insane number.
