Well it unfortunately doesn't look too great in Skeleton either as they all messed up their second runs. Claudia Pechstein is probably the only one who has realistic medal chances tomorrow - keeping my fingers crossed for her.
The Norwegian team seems set to win two golds (Edit: ok maybe "only" one after all) tomorrow which would put them only one behind but lets be honest here, a second place in the medal table would be amazing for the German team especially considering that they probably won't win a single medal in 2 of the 3 "big winter sports" (Cross Country Skiing - Speed Skating - Biathlon)

Gold Chances after tomorrow...
For Norway
1. CCS - Ladies' 4 x 5km Relay
2. Alpine Skiing - Men's Giant Slalom (Hirscher is probably going to win this though)
3. CCS - Men's 4 X 10km Relay
4. CCS - Men's Team Sprint
5. CCS - Women'S Team Sprint
6. Alpine Skiing - Men'S Slalom (Hirscher is probably going to win this though)
7. CCS - Men's 50km
8. CCS - Women's 30km

For Germany
1. Biathlon - Women's Mass Start
2. Women's Skeleton
3. Bobsleigh 2-man
4. Bobsleigh 2-woman
5. Biathlon Women's Relay
6. Bobsleigh 4-man

For Both
1. Ski Jumping - Men's Large Hill Individual
2. Biathlon Men's Mass Start (Better odds for Norway)
3. Ski Jumping Team (Better odds for Norway)
4. Biathlon Mixed Relay (Slightly better odds for Germany)
5. Nordic Combined Team (Team Norway being the better ski jumpers - Team Germany being the better skiers)
6. Biathlon Men's Relay (Better odds for Norway)

Better watch out for Kaillie Humphries in the women's 2-man bobsleigh, she's hungry for that third consecutive gold medal! ;):ca:

Woahh what an excitinf finale in the Mens Skeleton as Great Britains Dom was almost certain that hia medal hopes ended after going 2nd failing to beat the Russian by 0.02 second and no doubt the gold was reserved for the South Korean however when Martin Dukas of Latvia took the skeleton it was almost certain that he would get another Silver or even Bronze but he made a major mistake to finish fourth which grants Great Britain their first olympic medal of the 2018 games and first ever in skeleton which for the Beijing Olympics will recieve major funding due to the performance.

However figure skating was exciting as the Winnie Pooh skater of Japan made it raining winnie pooh toys following his 111 score in short program nearly beating his record breaking score of 112 which i expect to see a new world record score by him in the full programme. American Chen was a utter disaster while the Spaniard finish between the Japanese in second with 107

I missed it this night, but we get AN ANOTHER GOLD MEDAL!!!!

Frida Hansdotter, the eternal 2nd placer behind Mikaela Shiffrin in Womens slalom, gets a chance to grab the gold and she does it! So so happy for her, what a fighter!!

4 gold, 2 silver, this is incredible, a great olympics for Sweden and is a lot more to come! :D

Day 6 proved to be hard to follow up on for

Day 7:
Alpine skiing (men's Super-G): While we've had big troubles winning the Olympic downhill, the Super-G has been a completely different story, and Norway has won the last 4 consecutive Super-Gs, which is every Olympic Super-G in the 2000s. So of course, when we finally win the downhill, we break the streak in Super-G. Despite having 3 guys that could win this (altho Kilde would have been a bit of a surprise), it just didn't go our way today. I wouldn't really have expected Svindal to win today, as he would have had a long day yesterday because of the gold, but I had hopes for Jansrud. And they both came pretty close, Jansrud 0.18 behind and Svindal 0.49 behind. But that's not enough. Still, we got another medal, as Jansrud won the bronze. :)

Alpine skiing (women's slalom): I had hopes for Nina Haver-Løseth here, and just like Mowinckel yesterday, she was in a decent position after the first run. But Nina's second run wasn't good enough, and she ended 6th. Which by all means is still a good result. Very surprised about Shiffin's result tho, I pretty much expected her to win this, or at the very least, get a medal. So to see her finish 4th was surprising. But at least she got the gold yesterday, so she won't leave Korea empty handed. And who knows, she might surprise in the downhill too, if she decides to race there. Congrats to Sweden tho, great team effort with the gold for Frida Hansdotter, and a 5th place for Anna Swenn-Larsson. :)

Cross-country (men's 15 km): Most countries would probably be over the moon having 3 guys in the top 6, but I don't think we are. I heard Sundby in an interview being massively disappointed with his result (4th). But another medal for Simen Hegstad Krüger, and in my opinion it was very close between 2nd and 8th.
This event was on the quiz at work, would Norway get 2 medals? I guessed no, figured 1 would be enough, and altho Sundby was only 1.9 seconds behind, I scored a point here.

Freestyle (women's aerials): Not a big Norwegian sport, we haven't had anyone in aerials since Hilde Synnøve Lid in 2002 (she won the bronze in 1994). And it's not a sport I know much about, and I didn't watch it either, because I had to get sleep before a psytrance event I just came home from.

Ice hockey (men's): Only mentioning this because Norway's match against Finland was on the quiz. Would Norway win? I guessed no, and got a point there.

Skeleton (men's): A 20th place for the Norwegian, but at least he managed to qualify to the last run, so that was good. :) I hoped Martins or Tomass Dukurs would get a medal here, because I've always had a soft spot for Latvia, but they both just missed out. :( Impressive stuff by Yun Sung-bin tho, even if he did have the home-track advantage.

Snowboard (women's snowboardcross): Good contest, but I hope Vendula Hopjáková is ok. Her fall in the seeding run didn't look good... A lot of drama in the heats, and in the end, I was very impressed by the French 16-year-old Julia Pereira de Sousa Mabileau, who won the silver, and beat Samková and Jacobellis in the final. Congrats to Moioli with the gold too. :)
This event was also on the quiz, who would win? I took a risk here, and guessed Charlotte Bankes, but she was knocked out in the semi, after falling. Won the small final tho, but that didn't help, and no point for me.

Speed skating (women's 5000 m): No Norwegians here, and another Dutch gold. Can't say I'm surprised.

Day 7: 1 silver, 1 bronze

Oh my God! It's been a few hours now, and I can still barely believe it. I've been a fan of Czech snowboarder/alpine skier Ester Ledecká this season, because she's sponsored by Coca-Cola, and I drink a lot of Coca-Cola. ;) And today she shocked the world (and herself), and WON the Super-G! Even Mowinckel winning today wouldn't have made me happier than I am about this tbh. Unbelievable! :D

Two more medals for Canada this morning, both in short track! Kim Boutin got another bronze medal, this time in the women's 1,500m, and Samuel Girard got gold in the men's 1,000m!

Russia completely destroyed us and won the group

but i''m surprised that USA is so average.. i know NHL players are not allowed to enter, but surely they can still form a team to compete for top places?..xshrug

Day 8:
Alpine skiing (women's Super-G): I've mentioned this earlier, but it can be mentioned again. Ester Ledecká, OMG! Definitely moment of the day, maybe the moment of these Olympics, even tho there's still a week to go. :D Very close tho, Anna Veith lost the gold (that everyone thought she had secured) by 1/100th of a second, and Lara Gut lost the bronze with the same margin.

Biathlon (women's mass start): Wasn't really sure what to expect here, as the Norwegians can be either very good, or very bad, and then it's usually on the shooting range. But Tiril Eckhoff likes the mass starts, and won the bronze, and Olsbu was also up there, but she finished 8th in the end. Good event for us. :)
This was on the quiz, would Norway get a medal? I didn't think we would, but was wrong.

Cross-country skiing (women's 4x5 km relay): Norway won, but it was a good battle against Sweden. Great performance by Haga on the 3rd leg.
This was also on the quiz, and this was a tricky one. Who would do the 2nd leg for Norway? I had no idea, and took a chance on Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen. I later found out that she wasn't originally meant to be on the relay team, but she did end up doing the 2nd leg instead of Heidi Weng, so a lucky point for me there. :D

Figure skating (men's singles): I have no idea what to say about this...

Freestyle (women's slopestyle): Good chances for Norway here, as both Tiril Sjåstad Christiansen and Johanne Killi could win medals, and they did pretty good in the qualification. But it didn't go quite their way in the finals, and ended 5th and 9th in the end. :/

Short track (men's 1000 m and women's 1500 m): What I like about short-track, is that the judges don't look at who the athletes are or where they come from, if you do something wrong, you get penalized. And that makes it even more exciting, because you can't really tell who's going to win this. Interesting to watch, but I don't really have any strong opinions about the results...

Skeleton (women's): Personally, I feel that bob, skeleton and luge should all be under the same sport (sliding or something), since they all use the same track, but that's irrelevant here. Exciting until the end, when Lizzy Yarnold showed everyone how it's supposed to be done, and crushed her old track record by 0.2 seconds. And she could have done even better too, as she hit the wall a couple of times. Good day for Great Britain, with 2 medals. :)

Ski jumping (men's large hill): It's a disgrace that the women aren't allowed to compete in this hill as well, but maybe in 2022... Anyway, after the qualification, expectations were high, as Johansson and Forfang won it. And we had all 4 guys in the top 8 in the competition, but unfortunately no win. Kamil Stoch won, but Robert Johansson did get a bronze. :)
And this was also on the quiz, who would win? I guessed Kamil Stoch, so I got a point there. :)

Day 8: 1 gold, 2 bronze (sneaking up on Germany in the medal table)

I know, this is amazing. We're at the halfway point of the Games and already Canada has 15 medals - our best start in a Winter Games ever with more medals to come (surely we have an ice dance medal in figure skating in the bag via Tessa and Scott)!

I thought Tessa and Scott were too old for Olympics they have been since 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino. It is good news to see they are still on. I am in USA at the moment so do not follow much of Canada , but I saw where we were third in Gold Medal standings and second overall with 15 .. It has definitely been a good year for Canada!

Since the nation is sort of a "forum pet" in certain circles, just thought I'd report that San Marino's lone athlete, Alessandro Mariotti, not only got through Run 1 of the men's giant slalom in one piece but finished a very solid 75th out of a total 110 participants and 85 finishers! xcheer He'll go down Run 2 soon and has another race later in the Olympics as well.

Also, ffs Ligety -_-
