On the 15th May BBC Three are showing 'How to Win Eurovision' presented by Russell Kane and Greg James they investigate the perceived attributes required to become a Eurovision Song Contest winner, including a strong gimmick, a dubious choice of costume and questionable singing talent. The presenters also celebrate past successes at the annual event, featuring interviews with Graham Norton, Bucks Fizz, Scott Mills and Daz Sampson

Oh dear. I hope this won't be living in the past (I expect it will) and what expertise do the BBC have currently in winning Eurovision?????

I think this has been said before on the Friday on Radio 2 Ken Bruce will have a Eurovision special reliving the best UK entries and quizes. On the Saturday Sara Cox will host an aftershow Radio 2 program on Eurovision 2013.

The BBC seem to be taking an interest but going about it the wrong way in areas.

xrofl3 How to win Eurovision feat. Daz Sampson... Look for the mistake !

Interesting choices for hosts, you'd think the BBC are trying to get the new generation in Eurovision... that can't be right

Review from Digital Spy forumer who was at Bonnie's live recording

Their words

1. Bonnie did the song twice! Both good performances would be happy if vocally that on the night. She's so awkward on stage however.
2. Her and graham off camera did loads of talking. Very funny.
3. Graham hated Baku describing it as a **** hole. Glad Azerbaijan is crap this year.
4. Thinks malmo has nothing to offer so isn't looking forward to it. Bonnie same view, and gutted he won't be there until the Friday.
5. Graham hates Netherlands and don't think they will get out of semi final Bonnie likes it. Likes Malta and Bonnie hasn't heard it yet.
Graham liked Russia
6. GN hates Ireland. 'All trance' and no one will buy it.
7. Bonnie likes Denmark and a few other songs ( can't remember them now)
8. Bonnie mentioned political voting on the sofa

Will the program be all about how you have to have a load of ex-Soviet neighbours, it's all political (innit) and "we could send Adele and still wouldn't win"? :geek:

 Let's Valentina's guards send them to jail !!!! xjason

Oh Gosh... Why does he make Eurovision if everything outside London is crappy for him... And if Russia is his favorite... xrofl3

At least, French are completely stupid towards Eurovision, as when it's about Eurovision on TV, people can let their xenophobia go on, and tell the people from the other countries are ugly/underdogs/crappy... But at least, not the commentators... :?

It's not surprising that Graham likes Russia, he loved Running Scared in 2011. Which means he probably loves Georgia as well.

Don't know much about Greg James, but a camp comedian is hardly new ground for British Eurovision.

I can't actually stand Russell Kane. He's not funny, he's just loud and obnoxious. And all his jokes are about how he's allegedly not gay. Will be torn whether or not to watch it.

Watching Bonnie speaking on Graham Norton show, joking about how political it is and how she doesn't suspect she'll do well because of it. Nothing positive said about the competition whatsoever, except it's good promotion for her album.
It's frustrating, disappointing, and regrettably predictable.

But she performed well, it's better to go into the competition not with the hopes too high and then get a surprise on the night. It's not Bonnie's fault about the political voting, it's Terry Wogan's fault for pumping it into the British minds.

She sings better than expected but the staging and song drain any life out of a lifeless song that ever existed.

So you don't like it. I think I'm starting to get your point. Please make it again. Endlessly. In case I'm too stupid to get your constant sarcasm.

Its good not to set your expectations too high cause that's only going to cause disappointment but that was a very good performance. The performance was very professional, Bonnie was vocally solid, very charismatic and the backing singers (solid as well!) didn't drown her out as many believed they would. A repeat of that performance and the Brits should be proud no matter what the results end up being.

I said it in this thread before and I'll say it again, I think people are underestimating the song. There is a big fan base for songs like this but their just not as loud or vocal about it, they love it quietly. It won't get a lot of 12/10s but will get lots of 6/5s from more countries instead. Don't forget the reception in Europe to the song is very positive and Bonnie's fame certainly won't hurt either. That performance makes me more confident in a "Standing Still" type result and who knows maybe pleasantly surprised by an even better one. :D

A live version of a song can create a 360 on a song. A prime example this year would be France or last year Albania after they had cut it down.

All I am saying is it looks and sounds like they've got her vocals up to a decent standard and hoped everything else would fall into place. They have not. One of the main rules of any show with a public vote is to not be dull. Unfortunately this is

It's not sacasm it's realism. The problems can be sorted out, giving her a mic stand and being clever with the lights and camera angles. Then it might work. Bonnie's name will help her more than Engelbert. Yet it should not be dependant on a name to do well.

As it has been said elsewhere if Bonnie or the Hump had been picked by the general public I think it would be easier to except. However the songs or the artists where they are today do not warrant an internal selection. The BBC are incapable of picking a good song for a contest format. Yet they are the ones to throw their toys out the pram when they fail and get rules changed for them. I'm sorry but they are no better than a petulant child.

If she fails come May I will be upset for her. I think she's a good laugh completely off her trolley which is great compared to the po faced stars. For the selectors and delegation I'm just fed up with them.

It's so funny that most of the participants are Bonnie Tyler fans, who's another contender. :D
And it's even funnier that some of them will most probably surpass her in the voting.

I'm not sure what to think of the performance. But then i'm not an expert on the eurovison. I see that people tend to be more pessimistic about the British entry because of our recent history in the show. I have to agree though, that despite how much i like bonnie tyler this song is a bit dull, but i think filling the stage with fireworks, fireballs and whatever else they have will destroy the song. Its a very fine line we are walking.
