Eugene Filatov is the 3rd juror! xheya

4FL4Ilf.jpg

He's ONUKA's husband/producer, "1944" sound producer, he produced a lot of albums for many performers, he's more into electronica/synthpop.

YESSS. Sad he won't produce any entries (presumably) but its a good selection panel and Kvinta will do good picking acts considering how diverse Holos acts have been the past few years. Can't wait for more rumors :)

BOMBA: TAYANNA is back to #Vidbir2018!

Soon @NRJUkraine will publish a poll with 4 songs of TAYANNA’s latest album. ❤️

The song, that will receive the biggest amount of votes, will participate in the national selection.

You can hear 1-minute clips of all songs on Tayanna's new EP here: https://itunes.apple.com/ua/album/тримай-мене/1310370380?l=uk

"Lito" (2:48) is on the EP which isn't too long in its original version.

Based the 1-minute clips, I'd say that her other potential Vidbir entries are probably "Trimaj mene", "Kvitka", and "Sila". They're all somewhat generic, but I think "Sila" would be the best option.

Re: UKRAINE 2018

The 4 songs from Tayanna are:

Trymai Mene

Mliyu

Syla

Kvitka

Trymai Mene is my fave. It will not work on ESC imo, it sounds like an album closer. I would like a backing singer to dress in Arabian style like Yitzhak Sinwani ("Isaac") from Madonna's Confessions tour. + it sounds really great live and this is the most comfortable song for her vocals.

Mliyu is very sexy but knowing Badoev it's gonna be a slutfest which will put Loboda to shame

Syla is a typical ESC Eastern ballad. I see it coming from Ukraine or Poland or Balkans. Imho it's dated.

Kvitka is an uptempo ethno pop song. Another fave of mine. It's been performed live before September 1... but it happened on a small stage of a fest with a small amount of viewers, not on the main stage, not shown on the TV so I'm not sure if it got real promotion/advantage. Also I'm worrying about her vocals on this one, if she can keep up with the tempo.

In any case she will re-record the chosen song before the NF.

ps. The poll results as of now:

Trymai mene - 11%
Mliyu - 12%
Syla - 35%
Kvitka - 42%

Mliyu and Trymai Mene are my faves here. Not fan of Kvitka at all. Syla is dated and ordinary, I agree here.

However, no songs here suit Eurovision.

Re: UKRAINE 2018

Chorus is quite good but verses go nowhere imo

I actually prefer the verses to the chorus.

The more I listen to it, though, the more I'm starting to be convinced that it's the right choice for her. And I could actually see it doing quite well at ESC. I know ethno-pop has seen better days in ESC, but trends change. And if staged/performed well, I say go for it.

Re: UKRAINE 2018

It has to be Kvitka, it's the most "direct" song on her EP that would be the easiest to remember in Lisbon in May for the masses and it's time for an ethno-pop stomper from Ukraine again, enough with the depressing ballads already. I think it's catchy and efficient and would stand out in a sea of ballads. GO Kvitka!!! xcheer

And please NO English!!!! Especially if one of the ballads will be chosen, English will just make it so basic and the songs will lose character. I Love You for instance was such a cliché ballad, please not again! Surely these options are better, but Syla will just sound generic in English and unfortunately, although I like the song, Trymaj mene is more of an album track than a song that would work well in ESC.

Re: UKRAINE 2018

Yeah, if she didn't win last year with I Love You, I just cannot see her winning the NF this year with any of the new songs. Shame, because she probably won't try again either.

I think there's nothing as good as "I love you" on her new album. Kinda a pity, since I changed my mind about her recently and I really started enjoying that song.

Interesting how opinions can differ, I Love You in my ears was just a substandard basic generic ballad which we have atleast a handful of in ESC each year, nothing else, nothing more... all songs on her album >>>>>> I Love You imo, so if anything, now would be the time for her.

Sadly Shkoda is too old to be eligible for ESC, that one grew on me alot and it's actually catchy as heck (no wonder it is her first solo hit in Ukraine so far)... but yeah we have always Kvitka of course for ESC ... if there won't be anything better in the selection (let's hope it will be better than 2017 atleast), then this time around it's Tayanna for me xcheer

Re: UKRAINE 2018

on tayanna: i liked all songs except syla as much or better than i love you HOWEVER it is true that none of them have the same eurovision potential of i love you, which was imo a top 10 lock had it actually been selected. however, ukraine is ukraine, and if any of them were selected they would eurovision it up until it became top 10, i am sure.

Tick tock from 2014 turning from potential dead last to 6th in final is a good example for this. The NF performance still has more than 1000 dislikes. :D

Also 2011 entry no one expected it to do so well until the revamp and the sand performance. (Also NF performance has 50/50 likes and dislikes)

I'm a sucker for a good power hearbreak ballad. I can't help it. I Love You has it all, as far as I'm concerned. Heartfelt and catchy melody, gut-wretching lyrics, glorious culmination.

Re: UKRAINE 2018

Kvitka and Trymai mene are by far the best, each very different but great imo !
Mliyu is decent tho a bit repetitive, Syla is not bad but kinda ordinary.

Hopefully her vocals are better next year...

Re: UKRAINE 2018

Yaaaay, Tayanna is back (hopefully)

I looooooove Kvіtka the most, but all 4 songs were pleasant to listen to.. i just love her. During the summer i discovered her former group "Horjačyj Šokolad " Amazing music.. just perfect for my taste. Songs like Beregi, Nebo malo, Steny, Dve Nedeli Raja,Nemnogo perca, O nёm...

Don't be apologetic hehe, it's just different taste :)

I also like good ballads, however that one was too bland for me, and the English lyrics made it even more bland. I really don't think it would have been the "success" in ESC that everyone though it'd be, in fact I think all songs from the 2017 selection would have flopped and I think the broadcaster simply didn't want to risk anything due to lack of money so probably that could be one of the explanations as to why 2017 was so weak.

^ A lot of performers (including the Hardkiss) had been saying before the NF they don't believe we can win in 2017 no matter what we send.

Re: UKRAINE 2018

The voting has just ended. "Kvitka" won on both sites

The song will be re-recorded. Probably with some improvements. Surprisingly there's no strong opinion about translating it to English. So far it varies from partial translation to leaving it in Ukrainian.
