I think that either :md: or :fi: will qualify. They are followed by rather slow and 'serious' songs (:hu: :nl: :hr: ) so they might come across as memorable.

Hopefully this means that the disastrous song from :gr: is out :)

BZW don't you think that EBU seems to love :au:? I think it's quite suspicious that they put them 10 and last year they were automatic qualifier. Hmm...

Some spots were already clear before the official announcement...

:au: gets the 10
:ru: gets the 9
:cz: gets the 11
:sl: gets the 11
and so on...

+They obviously wanted to harm :lv:

But of course only to make the show more exciting... xliar Thank you for that SVT! xslap

Preach!! Actually, I expected a way worse draw, but overall I think it looks pretty decent EXCEPT for those you mentioned! Easy to guess who transferred money on Björkman's off-shore account  I'm particularly angry about :cz:, like how the hell were they given such a bad starting position? I knew they wouldn't be among the last to perform, but it's an even worse position than I imagined (after :ru: especially).

Even if :sl: was quite hopeless already, their position confirms that they lost a bid (or a bet), clearly.
As for the broadcasters' pets :ru: and :au: I find it meh, this is way too predictable for countries that won't have any trouble qualifying. Shame.

And now we officially know that a country MAY be given the same slot within a few of years... :lv: has that "honour". Personally, I find it unfair, it should be rotating as much as possible.

Apart from that, I'm skeptical about the acts who will perform last, but we'll see if it turns out to be a wise choice.

(btw, I apologize ZoboCamel you finally made a good guess overall )

No need to apologise... you even said you enjoyed reading it  Plus I only got like a quarter or a fifth of them right anyway.

I guess it might be a little unfair that Latvia gets the starting spot twice in nearby years, but I don't think it'll really harm their qualification chances. They're virtually guaranteed anyway. If anything, they might be able to use this as leverage to get some good slots in the following years.

:cz: has no chance, not only the draw, but the song. The MV is pretty-ish but every non esc fan that listened to it just don't like it. I understand that some people here like the song (as I personally do) but we're acting as ESC fan and the casual viewers are quite different than us and it's obviously a weak song, just a better packaging than last year.
The only thing that could save this kind of entry is the staging but what can you do with a ballad... sandwork ?

Mii11 how could you compare the uniqueness of :al: 2012 and :lv: 2015 and the incredible chessy ballad of :ru:
Your blindfold is that thick ? it's like you're comparing :se: 2012, :am: 2014 with :md: 2016...

I like "I stand" but i had to listen to it multiple times. It's bland. There's nothing going on with this song. I love this kind of bland ballad but it does not stand out near the others power ballads. I'd like to it to qualify instead of others songs that i don't like but i don't have any hope for it.

By the way, They can save Russia this time but they couldn't put any other dated song before them a second time to make it look freshier. I would have save this card for the finale actually as Russia don't need any help to qualify. Or they did that on purpose because they don't want them to win. I don't think the draw is that important btw, that's a Eurofanwank. The winning song has -almost- already won atm if they don't screw the staging (whoever it is)

Finally we have a draw and it sucks ass. Random order would do a much better job. Putting Latvia in 1st place, Czech Republic after Russia which show will be a slayage on stage, favoritism on Malta and Azerbaijan is obvious because the song was written by Swedes meanwhile favorites, like Hungary and Croatia come one after another. The draw looks suspicious AF because it was made by human hand.

These three were fantastically unique each in its own way, it's simply not comparable with the Czech entry this year.

I am not saying "I stand" is bad, no, it's not, it's an ok song. But there is nothing unique about the song. I would love to see Czech Republic qualify, but from the moment I heard the song it was just "meh" for me.

But Albania in 2012 and Latvia in 2012 are something veeeery different and absolutely unique.

Polina has charisma and voice you can rarely find in Eurovision (she had totally fine song, but the way she delivered the entry was the reason why she came second).

Czech entry is just fine. The three you mentioned above are another, upper level.

They really screwed up Czech Republic's chances to qualify. Do they want them to withdraw? That string of 09-14 in semi-final 1 is way too strong, they shouldn't have put all those songs together.

No, I think it's normal that Australia is the last of the first half on semi-final 2, they're the bigger favourite in that semi.

I think various fans came up with better running orders in a much shorter time. If it isn't bribes and nepotism, I don't know why coming up with such a draw could have taken that long.

Russia 2015 was "fantastically unique"? Seriously? I agree with Albania 2012 and Latvia 2015 but Russia 2015? That was just some average cheesy ballad while the other two songs were truly different and outstanding.

Not only shorter but also more fan-friendly and unbiased. Scandinavian songs got a good starting position and Russia at 9... well, Sweden starts at 9 in the final, right? So random Russia fan audience might remember that number quite well, especially those who don't know the running order is different in the final *cough*

Imho they shouldn't put the bookies favs on a good number because this will force it even more one of those favourites will win. So every year it gets less exciting if you take a look at the odds. Even if they don't predict the winner correctly there is this tendency which songs will do quite well and you can easily limit the possible winners to 3 or 4 songs.

I agree. To me, "A Million Voices" was as formulaic and Eurovision-y as it could possibly be, being a copy and paste sequel of "What If" in 2013, which was already an indigestible cooked-up mix of past average unoffensive ballads that entered the contest.

What saved it was the "Russia" label and the amazing performances of Polina (whose talent has been wasted on such a dull song imo).

The only thing I don't like is the early position of the Czech Republic, but other than that I'll wait until the shows to judge.
I do think that the running order of the previous few years as helped make the show more exciting and balancing things out.
