Re: Sweden gives Eurovision a "refugee crisis theme"

How do you know Algeria or Morocco is safe for these people? It is rarely shown on the Western media but lots of bombings has happened in the southeast of Turkey, so it's like a war-zone, and as much as i know there has been people coming to EU.

I don't know about Lebanon, Cyprus or Greece but why do these savage inviders (as you say) not stay in Turkey is because they are not taken care of. Syrian people are seen as cheap labor force or beggars, since they do not earn a lot of money, if they're not staying in poorly made and unplanned refugee camps, they have to work for very cheap money, and for they i mean children too. Turks are not fond of them so shopkeepers beating up Syrian children has been on the news for a while. As for Syrian girls, they're commonly married to old people since child marriage (however illegal) can be common in the rural parts of Turkey.

I didn't give the example for offending you, i gave it because there can be bad people in every country, Bulgaria, Syria...etc.

I don't even understand how people escaping from war can invade a land. Maybe they are just trying to live in better conditions?

I know its safe because I know many people from Morocco. One of them is very educated woman from Casablanca. Not one of them came here as refugee and they often visit their motherland. It's hardly a warzone, isn't it?

Maybe they are mot taken care of but they are safe! That's the most important thing and that is what real refugees are looking for. Hence they no longer need to continue their journey - they might apply to other countries (because if everyone stayed in, let's say Turkey, it would become overpopulated) but don't have to invade them because their lives are no longer in danger. It's sad that they are used as cheap force but so are North Koreans in China, Eastern Europeans in the UK, etc. In fact if they come here it is likely that they will suffer the same fate as in Turkey! Western Europe is not a paradise, they won't have much better future here (unless they want to live off benefits which IMO is rude and unacceptable)

They invade the land because they are no longer escaping war once they reach a country like Turkey. Maybe Turkey is not ideal but many people around the world live in much worse conditions. Ethiopian children are suffering as well but they cannot be invited over here because it's simply impossible to accommodate everybody. Everyone would like to live in a rich society but reallistically speaking it's impossible to achieve this kind of equality.

Don't bother to answer to this post.

I will not answer to your post. But I will most definitely comment on it!

A big THANX to you for writing your post!

I really cant express what I feel when reading rmany of the comments in here... I am relieved to see that you and a handful of other members in here have a different approach to this.

We might not all share the same political views. And we might have differents thoughts on the situation Europe is in right now. But quite a few of the comments here are way out of line; the "discussion" in this thread has turned really mean and ugly. I have never seen so much hatered in any thread on this site. This is not the civilized way of sharing opinions that I expect from people around me.

Enough said.

Re: Sweden gives Eurovision a "refugee crisis theme"

If you educate refugees the way you educate Europeans, they can be a European too. But some of them will of course insist to spread their narrow minded pressures around. Then you can just kick them out and you can then have a clear conscience. If people don't feel even a little sadness in their hearts for innocent people, then I must say that they are as dangerous as anyone else.

What about all the Muslims that have grown up in Europe? They've received the same education in our schools but way too many of them behave as if they had just arrived here from Syria or some other medieval Muslim country. I'd rather be too strict than too naive and the reason for this is that I can see what people we already have here. That's why I know that the last thing we need is more of them. They are safe in Turkey and many other countries that are culturally close to them. How anyone can defend these "refugees" is beyond me.

That person was making "fun" of Islamic Clothing. That meant we have to wear nun clothes if we want to make ourselves approachable for EU.

So it's not okay to make fun of people wearing a burka? We just need to accept that, even in Europe?
Actually, we don't need to tolerate that at all and we can make fun of people dressing like that all we want because it is an absurdity that frankly deserves to be ridiculed.

btw someone dressing up as a nun without actually being one would also be ridiculed unless it's carnival or Halloween, don't you think?

For people who believe in equalism and humanism, burka or whatever that covers the whole body of women can never be considered to respect or defend. Because the reason women cover their body is because Islam makes women less social and sees it necessary to make men less "horny".

Who believes in equal human rights, can't see burka respectful for women. It clearly makes women second class of society and less important in public.

I don't believe women in countries with sharia likely cover their body. But if they really like to do it, they need a serious and academic, high qualitied education and be stimulated to question things.

Bloody disgusting. Not even sure I'll be watching Eurovision this year, but if I do, I'll be making sure to boycott this shameful segment!!

For my own case, I have a wedding on May 14th so I won't watch the Grand Final at all  But I'll replay it right after I get back home and I'll go forward as soon as I see a single "migrant" on the stage.

God Sammy I am booking the next flight to Vienna and I'm going to give you a massive hug and bake you a huge cake for your post. The bile and despicable hatred out of people in relation to their fellow man almost puts me in tears. How can people not see past the actions of a minority, many of whom didn't come here with the refugees, in order to reach out to the suffering of hundreds of thousands of people in squalor.

=Some of those may have forgotten how they praised themselves of their tolerance two years ago when Conchita won and despised intolerance from Rusdia and Belarus. Where is your tolerance now?

Some of those may also have forgotten all the prejudices they were victome of for whatever reason, perhaps for instance all the slendering and false accusations gay people are exposed to so often? Didn't you fight generalizations and prejudices then? Why are you doing the same thing in reverse now?

This is my favourite piece. As a gay man I've faced being marginalised, being stereotyped, being harrassed, physically and verbally, being prejudiced against, just as the majority of Eurovision fans have been for their sexuality. We know what prejudice is like, we know the ugly side to all of this. Why then do we help proliferate blind prejudice against entire bodies of people willy-nilly like this? Why then do we, as one group that faces hatred and blind animosity, not recognise the harm that it does, and why then do we not stand up for all other groups facing such animosity? Conchita dedicated her night and her victory to "everyone who believes in a future of peace and freedom". She didn't just mean a future of peace and freedom only for the LGBT community, she meant it for everyone, refugee or "European" (whatever that is), gay or straight, trans or cis, black or white, man or woman, and so on. We can't pick and choose the prejudices we face.

Funny to read bunch of comments against refugees and migrants coming to western and northern European across internet forums from, let's say from central and eastern European countries, while many people from these countries at the same time are moving there as well. Why do you move to Germany, France and so on? There is more money there. That's a very rational thinking. You can't blame people because they want to earn more, have more and enjoy more.

Blaming refugees for settling down across Europe is ridiculous because that wasn't their decision- governments of your own countries have made such decision.

So before you blame refugees think what your government is doing or how your government has, maybe, taken part in all wars in the Middle East for example. And you all know that wars move people. That's all rational decision.

Besides, there's a separate thread for discussing the migrant crisis. Regardless of your views on the crisis, this is a horrible idea for an interval act, trivialising such a matter in something like a dance act. Next year the interval act will be a creative crowd-sourced film of selfies which will represent the Invasion of Crimea, while in 2018 the poverty caused by Brussels-driven austerity will be portrayed through a chorus of blind deaf mute child singers who are also limbless orphans, such a light-hearted evening!!

Good point. But the reality is most Euro fans don't know that. Plus, they see Eurovision as their own property.

They are cool when there is something related to LGBT stuff, but that's all.

They have never said anything against countries who treat some other groups the way how some countries treat LGBT folks.

I know, right ? When I learned the wedding was on the same day than ESC, I got super angry and wanted to jump by the window. But it's my cousin so I can't refuse  I will have to turn down the internet on my phone and try to avoid the radio so when I'll be home after the party in the middle of the night, I won't have been spoiled (I really hope I won't be spoiled by anyone otherwise I'll murder someone !!!!!!).

Be prepared for other people bringing smartphones with news apps. The winner will be breaking news.

Drunk random person: "Oh, xxx just won Eurovision. Why is that even breaking news? Who cares? lol"

ag89 LesterMalvo Sammy VikingTiger Maybe I will be punished for it by the usual barrage of passive aggressive comments, but since I liked three or four of those posts you were probably referring to, I feel like I should react to your very emotional judgements.

Basing my opinion on your posts in other threads, I think that all four of you are intelligent people able to see things from more than one perspective. I would also like to believe in your ability to distinguish between serious statements and ironical ones, even if sometimes it could be tricky. Personally, I think that most of the users you are quite harshly blaming for being "racist disgusting cynical haters" (all your words, not mine), were clearly joking and you most probably know that. Even more importantly, they were obviously not laughing at the unenviable situation of the authentic refugees (which would be truly awful, I agree), but more at the naivety of political corectness, clumsily used as a tool for banalizing the whole migrant crisis situation by pretending there is no other type of migrant than a harmless war refugee ready to integrate and that all we should do to end the crisis is to invite them all to Europe and smile (oh and to "highlight them by a dance routine", I am sure that will be extremely helpful). I believe that somewhere deep inside, we all know this is not true and if it were true, then there would have been no crisis.

The strongly sarcastic way of joking about it in this thread was appropriate reaction, in my opinion, as it was caused by the fact that Eurovision is officially presented as an apolitical event, while the decision of SVT/EBU to exploit this topic (and the grotesquely over-correct way it was formulated in the DM article) can be hardly seen as apolitical. The idea of Angela Merkel being a surprise guest star of the show and encouraging the whole world to come to Europe, may or may not make you laugh, OK. Tastes in humour differ and what I see as a therapeutical use of a dark and edgy humour in the middle of a very challenging situation or as a form of defense against the above mentioned demagogy, you may see differently. But being called a racist disgusting cynical hater because of that, that´s little bit too much, if you ask me. :(

Ritararita Honestly, apart from Angela Merkel, I can't see anything sarcastic. People only spill out hatred against refugees in unpleasant ways. That actually hurts me, as someone who used to believe in world peace but nowadays I just can't see it any possibility. All those responses of discrimination make me lose my faith in humanity more and more. I am only too sad, that's why I just wanted to clear something for people. I don't think I was unfair to anyone, but in case if I was, then pardon me. This thread includes more than a simple impression to me. I just wish every people in this planet would have the same value, no matter where they are from or what they believe in.

As for Eurovision including political stuffs, I 100% honest agree with you that Eurovision has to be decomposed from anything related to politics. But instead of against a theme which is related to brotherhood in humanity, I wish people would focus on more serious problems like being uncomfortable with boo'ing Russia, or neighboor voting, or the hate between Armenia and Azerbaijan, or the countless think I can't think of. As human beings, we have really good potential to fix things in this world. But instead, we just build walls to make barriers between "This human" and "That human". I think it is a shame.

Furthermore, that is probably my very last post in this thread. Because I know that I can't convince anyone into world peace if they don't have it in their hearts. So it is a pointless argumant. All my cause was showing people that there are people who believe in refugees, not all of them but some of them. And I wish they could see the innocent and helpless sides of them.

LesterMalvo I actually share most of your feelings about all this (my own little hippie concept of the world is slightly collapsing every day). I just wanted to point out that the situation is too complicated to divide people reacting on it just into two groups (likers and haters, let´s say). There are many, many shades of grey between. As with the migrants. Thank you for answer.

What about discreetly installing a TV in the room where you'll eat dinner? :D That way, you could all have impassioned conversations while tuning in.
