If you believe Benjamins song sounds a little too 80s, I think you shouldn't blame him.

Thank you for that interesting time travel experience. Love it actually.

By the way, I don't blame him. Of course I just know the interviews of the last weeks, but to me, he also seems like a nice person. Not the stupid, arrogant boy some people tried to categorize him in (especially after his reaction video "fail"). It's just his voice* I don't like (*of course, it's not his fault).

I have to admit I felt a little glee (or, as we say in German, Schadenfreude) when he was so low in the televote. But it was more directed to Björkman. Sorry.

haha I like the word Schadenfreude "skadeglädje" in Swedish. There's no English good equivalent as far as I know. Although Björkman is probably indifferent to the success of Benjamin.

Most people voting are not as involved as the press, the juries or the ESC fans like those visiting this forum. People sit down to see a great show and then don't worry too much about ESC for the rest of the year. If your song is not a bit out of the ordinary, it easily get overwhelmed by all the other 25 songs. It easily falls out of your top 10 list. Ingrosso's song was not catchy enough, not edgy enough or too spectacular. It was not at all bad, but it didn't have the qualities that made you remember it, if you just had heard it once.

I was not at all surprised that the juries ranked it higher than the televoters. Jury members certainly know the songs much better than most viewers. They might appreciate a good voice or nice production, because they know from own experience how hard it is. I was however very surprised to see such a large difference between jury votes and televotes. I don't really believe the low televotes had anything to do with hating, simply because regular viewers aren't really that interested in ESC to care that much. It could be because people thought that since Swedish has already won quite a bit recently, they woudn't vote from Sweden, unless the song was unarguably really good.

However, the most plausible explanation in my mind, was that the song simply wasn't catchy enough to be remembered, after just listening to it once. You could hear the quick rerun of songs be played, without remembering whether they actually played Ingrosso's song.

This, absolutely. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: simply being well-composed, pleasant and contemporary is never going to be enough to win many televotes in the final. At the end of a 26-song final, pretty much everyone will have found something they love; nobody's going to vote for the safe, middling thing that was kind of just okay.

Mind you, that's not just a problem for Sweden. Look at the other two entries that had a relative flop on the televotes: Australia and Austria. Both were perfectly functional, but had nothing to make televoters say "THAT's the one" after listening to 26 songs, hence the lack of votes. Come on, Europe/Australia: if you really want to impress, stop playing it safe!

And Finland and Slovenia are modern, ordinary songs, and they finished in the bottom together with Sweden, Australia. People wanted something extraordinary, I think, not ordinary pop songs. Especially when you look that public awarded with points vikings from Denmark, turbo-folk from Moldova, opera from Estonia, crazy clucking song from Israel, they wanted something different just.

yes and at one point it's pretty depressing, but not entirely so when both the winner and the runner up are, yes both spectacular and pretty standard pop, a kind of combination or a mix. I like that very much.

I am still surprised he did so much worse than Robin in televote, because I didn't like Robin and his performance so much, but I know-subjectivity! :D

The press centre reaction to the televote result was GOLD. But this song was especially jury-bait, so no surprises. It didn't connect with the public.

Sorry but you are pathetic!

What was fun with a reaction like that?! I want you to explain that to me right now! So called adult people laughing and cheering when a 20 year old artist who is living his dream at that moment recive that low points from televote?

I could get it if someone would be "pleased" that we didn´t win again, but to react like that is completly unacceptable and mean to Benjamin!

That so called press peoples always are around Melodifestivalen and follow it closley every year, SVT should ban them all from enter Melodifestivalen again after all the hate this year!

But I guess all like when the big giant falls to the ground, to bad for you all though since we didn´t actually hit the ground, still 7th place and again Sweden are in the top 10.

See you next year! :)

I'm not going to spam, but I just love this 30 year old clip with Benjamin's parents. Not a particularly good song though.

I‘d give this 12 points! :D I love it!
I love 80s music in general (I was a kid in the 80s) but tbh, in the 80s this would have gotten zero points in Eurovision also because „too generic“ ;-)

Well said! Their reaction is awful and primitive! https://www.svt.se/kultur/benjamin-ingrosso-om-avundsjukan-i-eurovision-tyvarr-markte-jag-av-det Here is Benjamin talking with the hosts about "objective press".

#52 Netta - Toy
#114 Eleni Foureira - Fuego
#110 Mikolas Josef - Lie To Me
#126 Michael Schulte - You Let Me Walk Alone
#198 Benjamin Ingrosso - Dance You Of

He is with only four other artists on the Spotify Global list, so press was cheering for nothing, his song is good and successful. ;)

I saw the reactions, but I don't think that they laughed or anything. It was rather an exclamation of surprise. Because it was something that really nobody expected.

After months of stalking this forum and posting from time to time, it sounds like Benjamin’s absolutely the worst thing that’s happened to earth

I’ve grown rather fond of the entry and think it’s another solid entry by Sweden, seventh place was deserved
Then this didn’t deserve so many jury points but definitely not so few telepoints

I actually think Sweden’s done remarkable poor within the viewers with Robin and Benjamin, so maybe try something new?

When I saw this I got a strong urge to respond:
"Just imagine what we do every year when a certain country make their attempts to compete"
but then thought, no, that is not true, we don't laugh hard, so I didn't want to say it, but then again I said it anyway

I completely agree with that statement. The song was not good enough to receive so many Jury points, but not so bad to receive so less telepoints.

How much swedes salty are there? Too much time to quote these lenghty posts Lol

Did I said we laughed? I said the reaction was gold because of drama and surprise. That's all. Go to a doctor for your freaky and aggressive reactions, you need some xanax after that night

Yes you could see and hear clearly the press people laugh and applaud when we got our points. Swedish journalists that was present in the press room confirms this!
Don´t even try to talk out of this...

The only words that can describe that reaction is disgusting and pathetic.

Also no one here is "salty", why should we? Sweden was once again in the top and we was 2nd according to juries who actually knows what they are doing.
The only thing bothering me was as said that pathetic reaction from the losers ( oh I mean the press)..
