Spain, what did you do!? I was an ardent supporter of this songs quality as a composition before. There was so much here to put people off, and I understood exactly why the package was too much for some, but I still stuck by the quality of the song and the simple sincerity of it. Now it literally has become a typical Eurovision entry. Perhaps if this had been the original version presented i'd be less harsh, and would have just put on my Eurovision ears and been like "ok, melodramatic ballad, bless it" but the fact this song already existed in such a pure and beautiful form makes this whole thing quite heartbreaking. I thought "Tu canción" was perfect as it was and I was looking forward to the prospect of it surprising people in Lisbon, cause I really, really believed in it. I'm so bummed it's unreal. Maybe some might consider it an overreaction because the strings are still there, the piano is there, and there was percussion before. The little things matter to me a lot though, and the fact they've hammed things up is the killer blow. That pause leading into the final chorus.. just kill me now.
I'll accept the devamp in time, but I don't think i'll hand on heart be able to defend the song the same way I did before. I'm not gonna change my 12 yet as I need time to cool down a bit, and come to terms with the fact I can't look at the song the same way that I was.
