One week later, I finally decided on my ranking for FdC.
Just a little kudos to RTP for what they did for our festival by showcasing how good and professional Portuguese music is nowadays, I mean, for a Portuguese music enthusiast like myself, it's really easy to please me, once I adore more and more our music scene. I am certain that this is the best FdC since 2008, the year I started watching it, so congrats to all the musicians and authors for the magnificent quality of songs we have here. I am really happy for them and especially for us, Portuguese fans, we can actually have a bad result in Basel, but one thing is for sure, we have a lot of options to choose from to represent us very well.
1. Captial da Bulgária - Lisboa ( Sofia's tone is incredible. I'm petrified whenever the song starts playing and she starts singing, it gives me Maro vibes, but I feel like it doesn't have as much power and I understand why it's not getting the attention that “Saudade, Saudade” had.)
2. Napa - Deslocado (I totally understand that people don't see much potential for Eurovision in this song, the truth is that I think it's so beautiful and so genuine that I think if it gets the necessary feeling and emotion it will be able to stay in viewers' memories. They're lovely and great live. - THIS IS A BIG GROWER)
3. Josh - Tristeza ( I think this is the song that will end up winning it will be the one in which both the public and the jury will agree more, I say this of course without knowing how it will be live but thinking about the potential that the studio version has. Josh is an excellent singer and he'll have a great performance. If I had to bet on the winner, this is the one.)
4. Diana Vilarinho - Cotovia (Well, I know Diana's work, and I know that she has an incredible voice and that she is a fado singer who is considered a promising young talent in the genre. This “Cotovia” has everything that is Portugal and Festival da Canção. The chorus is very catchy and I like how the song is defined by the drums with Diana's beautiful voice, final note for one of the best lyrics of the year.)
5. Peculiar - Adamastor (This was my favorite one in the beginning, but the more I listened, the less I liked it, even though I still love it and it's for sure one of my favorites, I just think this one will depend a lot by the performance and I am keeping my expectations low, because I don't think the studio will translate that well on the performance, but let's see.)
6. Bombazine - Apago Tudo (It's got a vibe, it's disco and it's very Portuguese indie, and since that's my genre, there's no way not to like it.)
7. Henka - I wanna destroy u (Yeah, I totally understand the appeal, and what fans see in it, and don't get me wrong for having it in this position, the point is that for me, all the songs above are better and I like them better. It has everything to be something different, but it also has everything to be something that could be sent to any country - which is right and demonstrative of what is being done in Portugal - Henka will destroy the studio and I'm really looking forward to seeing the staging.)
8. Xico Gaiato - Ai Senhor! ( I like it although I feel most times is too repetitive, I don't know what’s coming on the stage, but I am expecting good things)
9. Inês Marques Lucas - Quantos queres (Radio-friendly, catchy, and nice to listen to.)
10. Fernando Daniel - Medo (Yeah, he is growing on me, but just because I watched the videos on social media and I think the live performance will add more texture and emotion to the song because the studio version doesn't give me that much, even though I think it's a nice piece of music and well written don't know if it was another artist it will be a contender to win FdC).
11. Tota - á-tê-xis
12. Rita Sampaio - Voltas
13. Emmy Curl - Rapsódia da Paz (I dislike the rap part. Love the beginning of the song tho)
14. Luca Argel feat. Pri Azevedo - Quem foi?
15. A Cantadeira - Responso à Mulher
16. Du Nothin - Sobre nós
17. Bluay - Ninguém
18. Margarida Campelo - Eu sei que o Amor
19. Marco Rodrigues - A Minha Casa
20. Jéssica Pina - Calafrio
