Napa are in 1st place in Spotify's top 50 in Portugal, with 98 thousand listens.
This went ahead of any funk music, as far as I remember, this is historic in fdc. They are the ones who had the most engagement and it will be the music that will have the longest life outside the festival.
Josh was a flop, and I don’t quite understand why. Things didn’t go well live—possibly, if he hadn’t held onto a “mast,” his voice would have come out better.
Either way, the fandom’s vote didn’t count for much this year.
There’s alternative voting in Portugal—Henka achieved an excellent result. It’s certainly the most-voted song in the festival’s history and won with the highest percentage! Henka should return
Diana would have won in a weaker year (as long as Josh wasn’t there).
The jury from the mainland that gave 0 points to Napa also voted intentionally, just as Madeira scored Josh and FD low. There were no real voting criteria—there was favoritism towards local artists, and the voting was aimed at eliminating the favorites.
In 2017, we did the same thing for Salvador to win—we didn’t vote for Italy, we didn’t vote for Bulgaria. Bulgaria and Italy also tried to sink "Portugal" in 2017. And we can talk about other cases out there
Unfortunately, sometimes the jury fails to be impartial. And honestly, apart from the jury from the North, I think most of the rest was influenced by other factors rather than the actual performances. Or maybe things just sounded really bad live.
The vote isn’t based on Eurovision potential—this year, it wasn’t. That’s questionable, but well…
Putting anger aside, the festival was a success in terms of audience, and even the proposal for a partnership with Spotify reflects that. Napa was undoubtedly the act that generated the most engagement and moved the country—both for good and bad reasons. It was the year with the most votes and the highest quality.
It also became clear that something needs to change. The risk was always there; it’s just that in recent years, the fandom’s winner also won the competition. There needs to be a collective effort from the fandom to show RTP that real changes are necessary.
Napa has the potential to either finish last in the semi-final or fight for a Top 15 spot. It all depends on the staging. Honestly, I don’t think it will go beyond the semi-final, but well… we’ll see.
