Oh God, news about Poland's withdrawal didn't shock me, because it was pretty expected, but Portugal ... I can't believe it! :(

I mean, the rumours were around for quite some time now, but I thought that it'll all sort out and that Portugal will participate! :(

Now this make me more sad than our withdrawl:( I am surprised even though I read that there is such possibility but I didn't think it was that real. It's very sad because Portugal not only has sent good songs over the years but also sung in their language most of the time. That is precious and will be missed.
Really hope to see you back Portugal - keep my fingers crossed for your comeback.

NOOOO ! xcry

I know they're in crisis, but I actually didn't expect Portugal to withdraw as they have never done such a thing before :(

Also they have been very respectful to the concept of Eurovision, mostly sending entries in Portuguese or partly in Portuguese when most countries sold out... this means one less native language to be heard in Eurovision xcry

Well, that's truly your loss then. You miss a whole world of amazing music and beautiful languages, and you also miss the very concept of Eurovision (representing your country and the language is a very important thing here).

Whether one agree or not, I have alot of respect for countries who dare to stay genuine and not sell out for some easy extra points (and as apparent in 2012, it's not even a given that English will give you a better results anyways).

i heard on tumblr so i came here to cry

but no seriously in the last 5 contests, they've only sent 1 entry i didn't like.
the only bright thing i can pick out of this is that Latvia withdrew in 2009 and Lithuania did in 2010 but they came back with amazing songs so maybe Portugal will do the same (although that was for financial reasons but sure)

Actually, they did, in 2002. They had a guaranteed place, but they withdrew, resulting in Latvia taking their place.

Well I cant say Im shocked, but Im defentely sad. The worst part is that I bet most people wont even care that much!
Let's hope somehow people actually get sad with this, and RTP returns in 2014, but I think if we'll ever be back with RTP its going to be in 2015 at minimum

So disappointing decision from Portugal. Greece has less money and will take part in Malmo! And Portugal is one of my most favorite countries of the contest in the last years! I will miss Portugal! :(

The problem is not only the money, its that RTP is going to be completely restructures in the next year. Plus, interest is low in Portugal

I am very sad. Portugal is one of the few countries that always gives priority to quality in relation to entertainment (except in 2011).

:(

Yeah that... don't remind me of it. Had they been in, maybe we would've had a better winner in 2002 grr
