Re: PORTUGAL 2013

no thats false! i never heard of that! The song was released in June when euro 2004 started. RTP held the national final with the top 3 finalist of the portuguese version of Operacion Triunfo in February. Nelly Furtado was never considered to represent Portugal in eurovision.

Re: PORTUGAL 2013

Is it true that Nelly Furtado with song "Força" was considered to represent Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest 2004????????? :O :O
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Força

I did'nt know that!

That's definitely false.

Nelly's new project is flopping, maybe she's up for the idea of representing Portugal in Eurovision?

Her new project has barely started, she has released one single and it has been moderately successful.

There's no real reason for her to take the time out of her career to do ESC at this time. Maybe down the line if her career really takes a turn for the worst.

'Moderately successful' I'd say is a bit exaggerating, but that's subjective.

I like Nelly, she's actually one of my favorite artists, all her albums have been great up to date and I also like her new stuff... however, it really seems it's not going anywhere. Of course, we will have to wait and see... but I'm afraid the new project is destined to flop.

So with that in mind... why not Eurovision? :)

It has gotten into the charts which is good enough for what it is. I think it's a risky song to put out nowadays with all of the electro-dance autotune "hits" out there. Her next single could be better and the album hasn't been released yet so indeed we will have to wait and see.

I'd like to see her in ESC as well but realistically the chances are slim. She has international fame and even if this album is less successful, she'll still be able to play off her past successes and she could bounce back eventually like she did before.

I think the only way she would end up in ESC is if she would just like to represent Portugal for the sake of linking herself to her heritage but career-wise it wouldn't make sense for her to do it.

Yeah, we'll see... Actually, it was quite a while since she had some real success, I guess her breaks may actually be a bit too long for this fast moving business. Her Spanish language album sort of failed (and I mean in the markets it was aimed for), and Loose was like.. 6 years ago or something?

Well, I meant more like if her project flops, she might have some time over and yeah, I could actually see her doing this as a 'bonding with roots' thing actually.

Honestly, I think this country is hopeless in Eurovision-context.

They really need to bring new life to FC or change their selection process all together. FC almost always cranks out fairly middle of the road songs. Portugal has really good songs and artists to offer, it just sucks that we don't get to see it in FC or ESC

Thats exactly my opinion. Portugal is full of new artists with modern great songs but FC doesnt reflect the Portuguese music at all....its just ridicuolous!

Still no confirmation which doesn't mean anything. RTP staff always does it later. They won't withdraw, no matter what.

Yes, they are Portugal so what's wrong with sending Portuguese songs? Or you think they should do as the rest and send Swedish wannabe American stuff? :?

Wow wow WOW - relax. I just say that you have a better chance to win in English? Why so mad?

I'm not mad, the Portuguese people should be though since you're dissing their language lol

And it's not just about winning, I find that a narrow mindset... then we would have a very boring ESC with just sound-a-like songs.

I expect something like 2007. That kind of style really fits in Portugal :D

Hmm, but they didn't even manage to the final with that one? Contrary to 2008-2009 (which were some of the best they sent in years, especially 2009).

Yes, it was such a shame that they didn't make it. I'd like to see that kind of style again in native language of course :)

I thought the song was ok-ish but a bit flat and dated, in an updated stronger version maybe.
