^Georgia had a really bad selection this year with only 9 songs!!! I think the georgian people aren't interested in ESC anymore.

Wow, how can't people be interested when their own country qualifies easily and reaches top 10 in the final?
Maybe it's the lack of promotion of the event, like in Poland?
Too bad if they withdraw

Um... the national broadcaster stated this a long time ago...
The official version was that Poland withdrew this year because of preparations for Euro 2012, and not because Poland had poor results. TVP said that Poland might come back in 2013.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Poland back but I think it might be unlikely.

I think they just don't want to waste a Saturday night timeslot on a program with so-so/poor ratings. Euro 2012 just helped them bolster this decision.

The ratings are worse each year. Around 2004-2007 the ratings were quite good, and Eurovision was in the top 3 of most watched programs on that particular night. But the last 2-3 years it wasn't that good anymore.
The lack of promotion of the contest is because TVP and many Polish people complain about Poland not qualifying and ESC being a show with poor-quality overrated songs. This is a horrible attitude - look at Netherlands, they fail each year, but still try every year.

If Big 5 didn't exist, those countries would withdraw for sure.
^
United Kingdom :uk: : Of course they would withdrawl - see there results for 10 years...
Spain :es: : Spain is so nice, but not so popular in ESC
Italy :it: : Hmmmm... Complicated. But sure they would withdrawl - poor country.
Germany :de: : I don't think they would give up..
France :fr: : THE FIRST BIG 5 WITHDRAWING COUNTRY FOR SURE!

That's right - out of the Big 5, Eurovision is popular only in Germany.

In France, after each bad result we get, the French press always likes denouncing how distorted the contest is, because of eastern countries, neighbour voting, diaspora, etc. I recommend France to withdraw if they want to act like bitter drama queens every year, why do they bother participating if they think such things?

Eastern countries are part of Europe, so if the big 5 didn't want to have competition, then they shouldn't have allowed more countries in the contest...

In addition, French people don't really care, it's not as if it was a big deal or so

And I have to agree with them.

They just based their expectations on the bookmakers, we know that Eurovision is unpredictable and that they can be wrong. For instance, after the contest, they said that Amaury was the prime target, that's why countries didn't have to vote for him (!), they were also mad at the French Jury because they gave high points to Sweden while it was the main competitor. The ear monitor problem during his performance was also made on purpose... well, I like my country but I wanted to show you that, with such loser behavior, I just can't stand those people who are responsible for bashing the contest all the time while they know the rules.

I'd say Spain is more likely, didn't they even cease to broadcast it right in the middle of the contest, a couple of years ago?

Nope, you're confusing things. The contest may be seen as a joke in the UK but it's still very popular and I imagine there'd be just as many upset by our withdrawal than would be happy. Spain also loves Eurovision afaik.

France and Italy, there's a different story, but I'm pretty sure even France has a decent number of people watching the contest every year, so I don't think any of the Big 5 will withdraw at least for a while yet.

Plus, why would they withdraw if they have the final for free...

Maybe because it isn't a joke contest after all, and they take it very seriously and are mortified by their recent results.

Lets face it, last time a country won a ESC in another language, was in 2007 - Molitva
It was a strong song.
France and Spain have to send a song - there is english or just half.
This year Spain has a great song it was nice :)
But France have very bad results - send some strong to ESC like her in 2009 Patricia Kaas she ended 8th with 107 points. And the song, singer and show was special.

We don't have artists like Patricia anymore. The current trend in France is for voiceless singers and cheesy songs

If you can call it 'for free'

Well, the Big 5 was formed because those countries contribute most money to EBU. This remains controversial, because they usually end up in last places, and they still have the next final for 'free' taking slots from potential (better) songs.

Well I think without Big 5, ESC would have a big problem.
Ok I admit songs from Big 5 have less quality (altough 2010-2011-2012 was good for me) , but I don't mind they take place in final every time
