ok

(and stupid 4 digit rule, that's why .net is better)

I think this forum in general is miles above .net. You may be forced to use 4 digits but at least our forum is well organised and not looking like it is still stuck in 2007. :'D EscYOUnited wins every time to .net.

Re: NORWAY 2018

Matt, You have become an old man..... Welcome in my leauge. I have been stock here "musically" for decades....

There is not much differences behind the lyrics of this song and Fairytale ..... Its simplistic and childish. Maybe some day he grows up. Im sure that will change his songs for the better. However they say Mozart never grew up before he died :?

Fairytale's lyrics and composition are irrelevant though, I was not looking for Fairytale 2.0, it's all based on the song's own merit. I think you're making a false assumption here, at least that's how I'm interpreting your comment. He is not the best lyricist, I didn't expect that from him. But he has written some really darn good songs, at least melodically and they were beautifully arranged. I know what he is capable of and to me, this is just not just lyrically bad, it's just a cheap overall composition.

And I know I'm getting older but I don't know what that has to do with anything.

More like the songs are extra bad this year. This will be the worst ESC in the 2010s.

People say that every year. I think last year was nothing to write home about except the top 5 songs and Romania.

I think Jupiter in Scorpio brings out the worst in everyone. Bad words come easier than usual.

I AM ACTUALLY SO HAPPY WE ARE SENDING THIS! I love how unique this is. I really really really loved Rebeccas song as well because of the strong message it has, but Rybaks song makes me happy and makes me want to dance every time. I was with the majority at first who was like "wtf" when I first heard it, but then I started to like it more and more as I listened to it. xrose If its better or worse than Fairytale I won't starts dwelling on, because, let's face it: both songs are cheeky as hell, but they both got something epic in them.

(Please keep in mind that this is just my opinion.)

Lol, last years was okay, this year is awful, even the 2000s were better than 2018. We don't have one selected song so far that's worthy of a Top5 placement in the ESC.

Re: NORWAY 2018 - Alexander Rybak - That's How You Write A Song

THE GOOD:
-I like that it's a "call-and-response" chorus.
-I like the disco rhythm that's throughout the song.

THE BAD:
-It sounds like he's phoning it in, so to speak. Like he's not even trying.
-It's repetitive.
-It's not memorable.

THE VERDICT:
Well, you figure that somebody like Alexander Rybak would know how to create a winning song, because...you know...he did. This song isn't it, however. Also, knowing how the staging for "Fairytale"* was, you can probably expect schmaltzy and hokey staging. Also also, talk about being a cocky guy with that title, huh? 6 points

*I'm going to make one thing clear about "Fairytale", and it is that for what it was, I appreciated that it won. But, nine years later, it doesn't hold up all that well in my ears. It was a hokey song then, and it's a hokey song now. That's all.
