This is sad. However, Moldova is really strugling with financial problems. Russia puppet did not win the election. Since then, energy cuts are part of a daily basis.

Responding to Moldova’s announcement, the Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, Martin Österdahl, said in a statement to Eurovoix:

We’re sorry that TRM of Moldova have decided not to participate in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. We will miss you! We’re pleased that viewers in Moldova will still get to watch the shows on TRM and very much hope to welcome them back next year.

It checks out for me. Moldova depended heavily on a candidate to fund the particpation, staging, etc.

There was no such candidate present at auditions, so they pulled the plug for this year.

This was a huge shock for me as well. Despite not being a huge fan of most of their entries is simply a part of the Eurovision family that will be missed.

Ppl in charge in this situation are in Moldova, but also in EBU.. I was for rather than but with this attitude, Im afraid we will loose more countries soon. ESC will consist of North and West Europe it seems... Like in the past...

I don´t like this development as well, but many TV channels in this regions are more or less broke, mostly due to their own mismanagement. Don´t know what the EBU can do.

Moldova was great for Eurovision, they were definitely known as being one of the more fun countries in the contest.
As usual these days, the financial costs is becoming too much for some countries which is why they're not in Eurovision anymore. It's how the world is at the moment.
It won't be forever and I'm sure we'll see Moldova come back when they are able to.

Well I'm surprised and to see Moldova out for 2025. I knew the financial situation at TVM was dire but didn't expect a withdrawal.

Wonder why Moldova didn't just go internal from the beginning of the year if they were that cash strapped. The energy crisis is a big problem for them especially in Transnistria but in the country as a whole as well.

With all the awful news for just today about Eurovision, we may need them earlier as planned to become a second recycling powerhouse after San Marino.
(and maybe Liechtenstein too. They've applied as EBU candidate with their new radio.)
