Multiculturalism is what SVT loves displaying and I believe it's for this reason they chose Malmö in the end. The head of SVT, Eva Hamilton, even said so:
"Mångkulturella Malmö är den idealiska staden för det här internationella evenemanget".
Eurovision 2013 hålls i Malmö Arena - Kultur | SVT.se

Well, considering how all of Skåne once belonged to Denmark and much of the Danish heritage is still evident there, I'd say that Malmö is perhaps not the typical Swedish city. None of the towns or cities in Skåne are (and I've been to a lot of them). Not that it matters really, but historically and traditionally Stockholm is more Swedish than Malmö, but that wasn't the point I was trying to make. I meant that why must we incorporate other people's cultures all the time, why can't we ever do something genuinely Swedish?! Since Eva Hamilton's already said 'Multicultural Malmö" we can almost be 100% sure they are going to play that angle.

Sorry to sound harsh (don't be offended ;)), but this is utter bullsh*t. Multiculturalism as a "hidden agenda" at the Swedish political and cultural elite is a myth spread by you know who. The management of SVT can mention this possibly in the meaning roughly "being nice to immigrants" or "help to solve exclusion problems" as a "bonus" to Malmö due to the decision. What they don't think of is that this bonus isn't appreciated by all and it becomes a controversial expression. A stupid and ignorant expression. When it comes down to it, they're just empty thoughtless words. I haven't seen multiculturalism mentioned as a SVT public service policy. In fact, I think it's idiotic we even discuss it since it's a non-issue.

Haha your Scanian friends will not be happy! :D Poor Scanian, nobody's friends. :(

I am also INCREDIBLY disappointed and this his nothing to do with the city and the fact it has the highest crime rate in Sweden (that's a fact).

It's the fact that it's a small arena and I would have felt the same way if SVT would have chosen a small venue in Stockholm. There will be more interest of fans traveling to Sweden next year than this years event (for obvious reasons). And with less than 15000 tickets available (I would guess around 10.000) it's going to be very difficult to get tickets. I mean I am part of OGAE and they get a set amount of tickets as well but the demand will be so high, it's going to be almost impossible to get tickets. I mean this is sweden for crying out loud, look at how fast Germany sold their tickets.....

And even if I end up getting my ticket, I will spend 0 time in Sweden. My hotel room will be in Copenhagen, I will spent my nights in Copenhagen, I will eat in Copenhagen cause i just love that city. So Sweden made a poor decision from a touristic point of view though I'm not too worried about that.

So big thumbs down from me, now I have to talk to my travel buddy.

^^ for me, and i think 80% of people here, it's because the venue will only have 10000-15000 places so many people won't be able to go.
A lot of people - also me - want to go because Sweden is really maniac in ESC...

And with a venue like Friends Arena, it's possible that most of people can come:)

Thousands of people have to cancel their vacation plans and hope to watch ESC live. That's a big deal, you never planned on going so it doesn't affect you but you need to put yourself into the position of those wanting to go.

I just don't like the City. The crime rate is the highest in Sweden because of all the immigrants. I'm not a racist or anything but it feels like you're in another southern country when you're in Malmö because of the lack of swedes.

Well, maybe STV doesn't want more people to attend. And maybe it's the Swedish people that are obsessed with Eurovision, and not the national broadcaster?
Anyway, the reason why STV did that was probably money, they wanted to do it cheaper.

The point is though that STV apparently doesn't really care about the peoples opinion, therefore people are upset. That makes perfect sense.

And the broadcaster is having the NF in a big ass hall but not the actual event? So it can't be really about them not wanting too many people to attend.

tickets status in Baku 2012

So a guess of ticket cost to the final would be about 200 EUR => 1700 SEK.

A loss of 20000 tickets is 34 million SEK + all shopping and stuff. :(
SVT is obviously only caring and looking at the show.

I said a few pages ago, that organizing a NF is MUCH cheaper, than hosting the actual contest.

In twitter write that this EBU proposed such requirements (about a small arena) Starting next year, the big arenas will be no more.
