Depends how long some of them are staying e.g. one night or a while. Also will they use ESC as a tourist advert or not, long term vs short term? Besides MF each year constantly attracts an international audience. As well as having the Hockey Championships it's all dandy really.

Still i do think that 60000 people would bring up more.
Many people tought it would be in Stockholm , so now with being in Malmo (sorry to say, but that cities reputation is not that good) and in a small arena , many people will decide to stay home and watch in on tv...

First thing, it's a good decision to downsize Eurovision.

But Malmö is an awkward choice for Sweden. Outside Sweden, Malmö is already notorious for a failed immigration policy and anti-semitism, covered up by a twisted understandig of political correctness. It could be a painful experience for Sweden to experience the international journalists investigating their culture and asking questions. Malmö is the most dangerous place in liberal Scandinavia for aliens but also gays.
This city has an above average rate of homicide, mostly committed by immigrants, but this is decently covered up by the liberal media.

On the other hand, Malmö could benefit from this exposure of course, although they would try to sell a completely different picture of what they are already reflecting.

For the economic benefits, I doubt that Malmö and Sweden can profit much, because fans will fly to Copenhagen and enjoy Denmark. So the big winner of Eurovision 2012 is Denmark. Of course, this is good news for the rest of Europe as well, but Sweden shoot themselves in their knees.

Overall, after Baku we are about to see the next problematic Eurovision event.

If they wanted to place ESC in a smaller arena I would have been happier if it had been Gothenburg, but Malmö with all it's issues and problems? Bad, bad choice SVT.

Besides it is funny that our NF will take place in a much bigger arena than the actualy ESC final.

Aftonbladet reports the "mayor" (finansborgaråd) of the city of Stockholm, Sten Nordin (M) don't wish to comment. The opposition, Roger Mogert (S) and Thomas Perslund, MD for Friends Arena says it's a major failure of the politicians in Stockholm and Solna. He says the conversation with SVT has been quiet for a while and he saw this coming.

Gothenburg would have been a reasonable choice, but I think Stockholm would still be a great place to host. No matter if they have large or medium sized arenas. There is no need to build a 100 Million Euro stage in a large arena, you can still construct a smaller stage and provide more space for the backstage and fanzone.

Some non-Swedish reports about Malmö:

Jews leave Swedish city after sharp rise in anti-Semitic hate crimes - Telegraph
Sweden's reputation as a tolerant, liberal nation is being threatened by a steep rise in anti-Semitic hate crimes in the city of Malmo.

by the Christian Broadcast Network

Swedish Welfare State Collapses as Immigrants Wage War | The Brussels Journal

The wave of robberies the city of Malmö has witnessed during this past year is part of a “war against the Swedes.” This is the explanation given by young robbers from immigrant backgrounds when questioned about why they only rob native Swedes, in interviews with Petra Åkesson for her thesis in sociology.

Malmö's Mayor Blames Jews for Wave of Anti-Semitism – Tablet Magazine
Wearing a yarmulke is no longer safe in the city of Malmö. The mayor blames the Jews, while other Swedish politicians point to ‘social inequality.’

Sweden Israel and the Jews: Migration Minister Admits Major Malmö Problems
Sweden’s Minister for Migration and Asylum Policy, Tobias Billström (Moderate) argues that Sweden’s third largest city, Malmö, has failed in its attempt “to be a city for all”

An example for Media coverage on crime: Hate crime in Malmö committed by two youths. The media does not say that two immigrants killed a gay guy, although that was the case basically!
Den yngste mordmisstänkte medger våld | Kvällsposten (please consult Google translate)

It's like reporting that "someone took somebody's life somewhere". Just to avoid facts about the backgrounds. And now let's talk about Sports but don't let's be too patriotic!

But, I don't want to be too negative about Malmö. Eurovision could help people to wake up.

This "political corectness" is cracking me up! Why don't they just say: "2 muslim immigrants killed a homosexual person"??? What do they want? Make Sweden an intolerant country? If that's their policy, they're basically destroying the country. I start to understand A-lister why he wants to move out.

Currently we have the same discussion in Austria, whether if it's a relevant information if immigrants committed crimes.
The liberal media just wants to report about crimes, but not about the background of people who committed these crimes. That's brainwashing! But if a domestic Austrian kills his wife and children and committed suicide, it is immediately pointed out, that he is native and that he was jealous and had money problems.

People are getting sick over this media coverage, and are being told to be anti-liberal and anti-humanist.

Even though I prefer to see ESCs in the respective capitals, it's nice to show Europe that a country isn't only it's capital (something that Azerbaijan should learn ;)). :)

How did you want them to host outside of Baku if even in Baku they didnt have a concert hall? (Thay had to build a new one!)

That rule would be weird, smaller arena = less people = less revenue = less money for EBU
They're doing this rule so that smaller countries or countries in financial difficulties like Greece, Portugal and Spain can still win and then host a ESC...

What can I say? I'm disappointed. :(

It's true, the choice shouldn't affect me, because I wasn't planning to watch the Eurovision final (or semi finals) live in Sweden anyway. But there are still some arguments that are worth mentioning:

a) The goal of every preselection, every national final is: to select a song for Eurovision Song Contest, the big event. Therefore it's totally logical that NF should be smaller than ESC. Isn't it weird to you guys that the NF will be visited by 60 000 people and the main thing (Eurovision) will be visited by 15 000 people?

b) I get people who are FOR downsizing Eurovision, but I'm definitely not one of them. I mean, of course, the most important things are songs. But to me the whole atmosphere means a lot as well. Eurovision is something big to me and it would be awesome to see 60 000 people in arena cheering for their favourites.

Well, I'm sure that it'll be a great event anyway, but I feel bad for people who already planned their trip to Sweden.

I agree, that IS brainwashing.
Recently, I read an article entitled "A Swedish citizen beat his pregnant wife with a telephone cable, because she didn't want to make him dinner"............... :?
Um........ what? :?
There was a good comment under this article, someone wrote: "Yeah... because every pregnant Swedish woman makes her husband dinner and every native Swede would definitely beat her up if she didn't agree".
Like it isn't obvious that this situation took place in some poor district filled with immigrant families.

Please focus on the issue at hand which is the host city, not immigration or crime in general. Thank you!

I think that the situation I mentioned in my previous post comes from Malmo... might be wrong, though... don't remember that well :?

I don't get it!! Portugal, Greece and Spain can have it in smaller venue. They don't need to do as Sweden.

How will people get tickets?? They are so few in the ESC loving Sweden. My point is that they who want smaller venue can have that and thery who want bigger venue can have that.
