I'll also focus on MF finals in Friends Arena instead. Sorry but I've lost all interest in what SVT and EBU are trying to do or not trying to. The last couple of finals excluding Baku have been a pleasure to watch and since EBU obviously are trying to make Eurovision a smaller event than the national finals in Sweden this won't be anything for me. I would've want to see Loreen getting all the love she deserves for winning and believe me, that will be done way better in Friends arena with that audience.

Come to think about it, there is a actually a big risk that SVT is making the Swedish finals smaller, around 10-15000, in Stockholm after all that has happened which would suck even worse.

nah just joking  Malmo seems like a nice choice, but gosh some people here need to get the sand of their butthurt vajayjay and quickly, the arena is good enough to me other than that monster of a stadium, I recall 2007 looked gigantic while Malmo's arena has more capacity than that.
and I'm sure the atmosphere will be great, whether with or without some esc fans.

Plus I don't think the Israeli delegation will have much problem, things chilled since 2009 , overall I'm optimistic about this :D

I don't think the smaller arena will be bad for the atmosphere of the show and I'm sure it will look great regardless. Being a fan of the old Eurovision, anything that harks back to it's golden years is welcomed with open arms by me.

However, I do think it's sad that so few people will be able to attend. I don't know about elsewhere, but "second hand tickets" are a huge problem here where ticket brokers buy huge bulk of tickets by the thousands and then sell them overpriced on the internet and outside the arenas. So even with 15,000 tickets, a huge chunk of those won't even be available through the regular ticket agencies.

I'm glad you realize this. In Swedish terms, there is a large Jewish community in Malmö. Even if many of them have pro-Israel sympathies, they are Swedish first and probably even local patriots. Malmö is their city as well. I don't think they are very pleased of this anti-Malmö campaign. Embarrassed by for example letting Hannah Rosenthal speak on their behalf in Stockholm. In fact, they are of course the ones that are being held accountable and forced to explain the "conflict" to their fellow Malmöits. No doubt there are migration politic issues in Malmö, but they are hardly about the Israel-Palestine conflict.

To criticize Israeli politics isn't controversial in most western democratic societies and is definitely not the same as being anti-Semitic or anti-Jewish. It's not even in most cases anti-Israelitic. I think most Europeans are fully capable of making the distinction.

The thing that stresses me the most about this is the arena size. It was hard enough getting a ticket to see the show live in Germany when it was something like 35k. For ESC this arena will hold about 12.5k...it will be impossible with tickets!!

I never understood how they manage to buy these tickets. It should be rather easy to stop large scale speculation if there is the will to do it.

As SVT only cares about the TV show and to manage the engagement, they simply haven't considered the ESC-fans or local economy effects, I think.

You attended ESC in Germany 2011? As I understand it was the Esprit Arena in Düsseldorf with max capacity of 66500 for concerts, right? They made it available for 35000 in ESC?

Yup. And yeah, think it was 35k they released for that show. 3x what we will get for Malmö. I spent about 5 hours online that day trying to get tickets and it all kept crashing etc. In the end I managed, but only toward the back. With an arena 1/3 the size, expect utter chaos.

Eh, I don't think nayone here cares so much about Malmo, people will get over it, it's not such an issue

Wonder what the best course of action will be to get tickets :(

As I'm sure you guys have noticed, hotels in M. are already sold out -- so Copenhagen or nearby Swedish cities like Lund and Trelleborg are the only options now.

Seriously?

Växjö or Bräckavägen would have been worse I guess, so Malmö is the third best....

I really hope that we have a BIG 5 Winner again next year and then something like a Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in London's Wembley Stadium with 80.000 People that would be huge :D :p just a joke, we all know UK will never win again! :D
It hasn't to be thaaaat huge but 13.000 ? Come on! It should be at least around 20.000 that would be ok.

Stop comparing Malmö and Düsseldorf ....
The Esprit Arena was the second biggest Venue of all time so it was clear for NDR that it would be the perfect for the ESC! The Guy's from SVT seem to be a bit ... diffrent :D

It's funny that Swedish people are so upset about Malmö because of being so close to Copenhagen.

Stockholm is rather remote for a European capital. Sure, Baku was the remotest of all.

Düsseldorf is very close to the Netherlands, so was this a Dutch contest then?
Would a Song Contest in Bratislava account for an undeserved Austrian Eurovision?
And what about those countries who have less population which fit into a Eurovision arena?

Are bordering venues not worth hosting?

13% of Swedes are living in Skåne län (Malml province), so it is a major constituency of the entirety of Sweden. This is the deep South of Sweden.

Well I read an article once about how a lot of swedes in Skåne actually consider themselves danish, so it's not completely away from the truth that this area is somewhat isolated form the rest of Sweden. Bearing in mind how Skåne used to be danish up until 1658 there are plenty of friendly bonds between us and the most Southern part of Sweden.

The national mentality in this area is a whole lot different than the rest of Sweden. The region actually even has their own flag and the national self-identity is a whole lot different than the rest of Sweden:

If Sweden is unhappy with Malmö and Skåne, they can give it to Denmark. But as long as this major province is Swedish it has every right to be considered a Eurovision host representing Sweden as well.

btw. Sweden wins so often, they cannot afford always showing us Stockholm.

In Austria, our most westerly province has a Swiss mindset. I wouldn't be bothered if Eurovision once comes there. Although it is closer to Zurich, Munich, Milan and even Geneva than Vienna.
