Its not only about matter of taste. Portugal winning gave a small hope that maybe the focus switches from visuals to actually back to the songs, but if Israel wins it is not the case, because this is not about singing, but "all the other stuff on stage". So if Israel wins it is a slap on Salvador`s face.

Same goes for Cyprus, Norway or even Estonia.

Only hope is France.

Other than that lets rename it Eurovision Show Contest ... at least then it would be more appropriate.

I didn't see any esc artist (especially winner) who said so much shit about contest. Other artists love it with passion, participate many times as singers, composers, writers, back-vocalists, part of teams etc even if they flop there before.
I couldnt stand this person last year with loving his song at the same time (but I would prefer Luisa to sing it) and now i cant stand him even more. And i am not Israel fan AT ALL

Only because Cyprus, Estonia and Norway have impressive Visuals, it doesnt mean that they cant have impressive Songs as well xshrug
But I read this Argument often.
When I watch Eurovision, I want to see and hear the whole Package inkluding the Performance.
If it was just about Music, we could all sit around a CD-Player and listen to the Studioversions.

It has always been EuroVISION ... even back then when people didn`t jump on stage like they got a rocket in their ass.

I don't know which decade you refer to, because people were "jumping on stage" almost since the get-go ...

If he doesn't like pop music, he should get going with what he likes. He can join international jazz contests or whatever.
Nobody forced him to participate in eurovision song contest or pop idol contest.
If he doesn't like this kind of things, why is he intruding in and spoiling people's fun? xshrug
If you go to places you don't like and spread hate, it's called being a hater.... Nothing else!
It's same as watching videos on youtube and disliking them, although you can simply choose not to watch them instead.

Bsimmons is either a troll or just one of those people who can't deal with the simple fact that ESC is reality-competition TV show like literally every singing contest in TV. The best show/performace always wins, just like last year. Salvador didn't win because Europeans suddenly decided that the ESC is a pure song contest, he won because he had the best and most unique performance in 2017.

Glad to see that you agree to have values you breach only on paper, not in reality.

This. It's like if someone starts to complain at the People's Choice Movie Awards about that a 6 hours long French art house movie didn't win Best Picture. It's simply idiotic.

Eurovision is definitely NOT a "reality competition TV show like every singing contest in TV", it's not some Idol or The Voice or X-Factor that are mix of talent shows and reality TV, to compare it to those are unfair. It is however a music competition and a show, so in that sense not understanding that the show-factor is part of it all, is to not understand the concept either, so yeah if that's what you meant then I agree.

Oh look, our lord and saviour, the Messiah of Eurovision, has shared his vital opinion once again. xheat How arrogant to be to expect a contest to change completely just because you won? I've never seen any winners making such statements. I for one I am happy it did not transform into a pseudo-artsy borefest song contest, even with the Salvador hype.

I am tired of this edgy person.

"I hope to stop being regarded as the winner of the festival and to return to just being Salvador Sobral of music." k see ya bye xwave

if song was the only thing that matters then a lot of contestants shouldn't have been non qualifiers for having bad staging
and y'all know this is not what happens

if the music itself is your criteria when deciding your votes, that's ok since it's up to you. but you have to know that people also vote for perfomance and for the combo music + performance. and it's not wrong at all.
