Re: HUNGARY 2013

Well, don't get me wrong either, I'm not supporting a bad song from a genre I prefer/like in ESC over a better song from a genre I'm not that big of a fan of, it all comes down to the best song for me aswell, just to make that clear :)

Well, the Hungarian selection 2009 was kinda messy:

They first internally selected some AWFUL Disney-pop song which turned out to be the same song as the Big Brother Sweden 2004 theme song ,

...so they had to pick another entry... so they choose Katya's entry (also internally) as their second choice, but then she declined because of her schedule. Zoli's 'Dance with me' became their third and final internal choice, which was an English version of his single 'Tánclépés'.

I do agree though that considering that they withdrew for 7 years, and then did some short withdrawals even after their comeback in 2005, with 'A Dal' it seems atleast that they are finally putting some effort, so I do have hopes for Hungary although I wasn't convinced last year at all.

But you see what I meant with Katya? That song is not that far away genre-wise from Magdi's entry (and yeah I totally agree it has a Caroline af Ugglas vibe aswell), but I still liked that one while I didn't like Magdi's at all.. so it all comes down to the certain song and not genre.
Actually MTV are taking seriously ESC since 2011. (new ppl in charge is the chore reason)
Then they didnt have time to do an NF but after Kati's entry was picked, they took very seriously the promotion. Well in Hungary it had its good consequences, as the song became #1 and ESC was a big rating success.
Last year's NF was a big success too ratingvise, also they managed to have many established names enter (fortunately it seems that this year too), and around half of the entries charted. Biga's song went to #1, Compact Disco peaked at #2 and they also released a compilation album with the 20 songs that went #1 too.

As I said Im a fan of ESC since 2007 (watched it in 2005 too) and Im very happy to see that ESC in Hungary came from being virtually unknown to become so popular in the last few years.

I would love to see a high placing for Hungary this year, they really deserve it. Hoping for some cracking tunes in the NF.

That's exactly what many broadcasters need to do, but most are simply lazy.

Is it me, or Hungarian language sounds veeeeeeery good. Since I am in Poland, I've had the opportunity of discovering more about it, and I think you should go in hungarian this year. I prefered Szerelem than What about my dreams...

They deserve it if they have a good entry, so let's cross our fingers they'll have that ;)

To me Hungarian sounds a bit funny as a speaking language, but I totally love it in music.

I also preferred the Hungarian version of Kati's song, and my favorite part of the ESC version is without a doubt the Hungarian bits in it.

Re: HUNGARY 2013

Today, the Hungarian broadcaster (MTV) revealed the 30 artists who will compete from 2 February for the country's ticket to the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest. The successful pre-selection will be held in six stages this year.

Thirty artists and songs who will be competing to represent Hungary in the next Eurovision Song Contest were announced today by MTV. The country's pre-selection will take place in six stages this year. The thirty songs will be divided in three heats to be held on 2, 9 and 16 February. The ones that qualify to the semi finals will compete once again on 23 and 24 February leading up to the final on 2 March. In the national final, all songs will be sung in Hungarian, however, the language could change after the winner is selected.

According to the broadcaster, this year, the public vote will weigh more than last year. In the final, the judges will choose the 4 songs for the 'super-final', out of which the public will select one song to participate Hungary in Sweden.

The jury panel will comprise:

Magdi Rúzsa (Hungarian participant in Eurovision in 2007)
Csaba Walkó (Lead vocalist of Compact Disco - the band that flew to Baku last year)
Viktor Rakonczai (Member of VIP, the Hungarian participant in Eurovision from 1997, songwriter of Kati Wolf's What about my dreams?)

Re: HUNGARY 2013

Eh, what else was there to expect from the crappiest television in Hungary. Seriously, TV2 or RTL should try joining EBU... Magyar Televízió only fits their program for people older than 60+... I can rarely see anything normal on that channel. (Oh well, m2 is recently all about kids, but probably because their school holidays.)

Anyway, I hate mtv even more than before, why didn't you choose DALRIADA :( Or atleast Hien.

Though the television seemed to be into caring about folk culture and crap, well I don't see them doing so...

Dalriada's song's based on a Hungarian folk song (Aki dudás akar lenni) while Hien decided not to enter because of the language-rule.

Half of the entrants are singers that appeared in TV2 or RTL Klub's programmes , so I cant understand how it would be different if they joined EBU. :?:

Re: HUNGARY 2013

And MTV made a stupid decision too: after Kátya withdrew, the composer wanted the song to be performed by another singer, but MTV refused that and chose another entry instead. That singer would have been Ildikó Keresztes (more famous than Kátya, currently a mentor on Hungarian x-factor), she released her version on her album the next year; well imo it's not as good as Kátya's version, but still would have been better than Zoli. :)

Not as good as Kátya's version, but what was MTV SMOKING!? I didn't know they rejected another recording of the same song!

Re: HUNGARY 2013

Actually this style of music is (or was in the 70s) popular in Hungary; Magdi herself confirmed that her inspiration for writing "Aprócska blues" was this Hungarian song:
(I can hear the similarities especially in the way the song begins :))

You dont like Magdi's song in Hungarian either? Personally I love it; her participation in 2007 made me a fan of this contest. :D

This song is better than Magdi's, I might give it some more listens though to decide if I like it...

I never heard a Hungarian version of Magdi's song?

True-true! :(
Im surprised to see that Ildikó now entered the NF, competing against singers she was mentoring on X-faktor.
Sadly, I dont think we will see Kátya going near ESC.

Really? The Hungarian version's the original that's completely written by Magdi.

Do we know when they'll release all of the songs? Also who are considered early favourites? Are there any big names?

Urgh! It sounds like some terrible computer game. The same type of sound that ruined the Dana International song from 2 years ago. Horrible!
