Re: GERMANY 2013

Makes me laugh when Kate Ryan is bandied about as a big name because if it wasn't for ESC I'd be clueless

Cascada may not be the biggest or most successful group ever, sure, but that won't matter to the casual viewer. People will notice their name if they enter, and they've obviously struck on a formula before that's been successful. If they can get that right with Glorious then I have a feeling Germany will be hard to beat. If it's another generic and by-the-numbers entry, their notability won't matter.

Re: GERMANY 2013

In Eurovision, the UK (market) is not any more important than other countries' music scenes. And the US playeth no role at all.

This is not the point though, we are discussing "Big Name" status. And Cascada has that status, certainly more than Kate Ryan or Blue.

Re: GERMANY 2013

The USA doesn't vote in Eurovision though

I talk from a European perspective, which of course includes the UK, but also the rest of the competing countries and different markets. As we know each country have equal say in this, so Cascada being quite successful in the UK has the same worth as Kate Ryan having some success in for instance Russia.

If I just talk based on my own country, I'd say both of them were pretty much equally successful. Perhaps Cascada a bit more but not that much.

But we were talking about "Big Name". And Cascada is internationally a much bigger name. Even only looking at the European market it wont' change that.
I don't even know why we're arguing about this. I couldn't care less about Cascada's status. LOL

That's because you're in the UK, but Kate Ryan was 'successful' and known in a similar fashion as Cascada in some other markets in Europe. UK is not alone in this you know? There are around 40 other countries that have equal say. UK just happens to be the market where Cascada had most success in the whole world, perhaps that's more telling of the UK than anything though? Maybe the success had partly to do with Natalie (their front-singer) being born to British parents and fluent in English? I'm not sure but perhaps that could explain partly why they had it easier crossing over to the UK and other English speaking markets than other similar German acts? (because there's nothing unique about Cascada, there have been many similar acts especially in the capital of Europdance that is Germany).

Their 'successful' formula has been releasing Eurodance covers (the same formula that made Kate Ryan a 'success' in some markets aswell), now they have to rely on an original song so it's not as if they can use their formula here anyways.

What is the point then? I thought we were discussing their chances in Eurovision. The UK has one vote their, the US none.
I'd also disagree about Blue. They had a good bunch of big international hits (means Top10 peaks in several countries) which cannot be said about Cascada.

But the US have no impact in this, that's what I meant.

Yeah, tbh I already forgot the point of this discussion

I just remember I reacted to this comment saying that because they're supposedly a 'big act' they also take a risk with entering, and from there I argued that they're not that 'big' anymore to begin with

Yeah, Blue was actually pretty successful, and unlike Cascada they also had some ok album sales aswell. It didn't help them a bit in ESC though.

I think you stuck to the point as a Eurovision failure would not harm their career opportunities for the US at all because no one cares there.

But the point is that they are known rather everywhere in Europe. And that will give them a lot of attention.

By the Way...

Cascada's UK label seem to like "Glorious" describing it as pretty damn good! Who's excited?!

Re: GERMANY 2013

I know there's more than just the UK out there of course, but talking from my experience and perspective Cascada are probably around the same popularity as Blue were, whereas Kate Ryan is only known by ESC fans  Blue and Cascada are by no means huge, but considering the stigma the contest has in the UK any large act going for it is surprising to me. Blue and Cascada were both quite a big surprise to me that they would actually consider it, that's how bad the opinion is over here

Jedward were also of high interest when they were selected, but they were by no means a big name

Not sure about that though. Considering how weak 2011 was I think they deserved their position but generally 5th (with the voters) is still pretty high and we do not know how the song would of fared had it been sung by no names. Anyway, Cascada would not have their bonus.

Re: GERMANY 2013

Is Cascada still known in the UK? Because their last real smash there was in 2009 (#1 !), the other songs after Evacuate didn't had a big impact on the UK Charts. As a fan it would be quite interesting for me, to hear what the people in the UK think about Cascada atm.

By the way, that was how Cascada started rather 10 years ago (10 years. An act who survive a whole decade isn't that unsucessful) - Its sounds so different :D

True, I actually forgot that Blue ended up at #5 with the televoting.

What bonus?

What bonus? The song was weak, so ending up as 5th in televoting IS of course because of the bonus
Nobody says that "Bonus" means automatically "Win".

Exactly this ^^^

But stop trying to persuade the most skeptical members here, it's like you're discussing with a brick in the wall. :?

They have their fans, I guess. Not in the public eye but most people would know who they were I reckon, and if they were chosen for Germany it'd probably be an entertainment news story over here like Jedward or the grannies were :p

Ok so perhaps some good televoting points from the UK then, that leaves them to convince 37 others aswell

You forget about the public results? It's the only thing I keep in mind actually.
With bonus I mean the fanbase they probably still had.
