Re: GERMANY 2013

I suppose they still have more to lose than most of the acts that plump for ESC though, they still have quite a large fanbase :p

Funny that with such a 'large' fanbase it doesn't translate into sales or anything.

No, they're in a situation where they have nothing to loose, on contrary this is probably a last resort to gain some popularity back.

I mean Kate Ryan was a bigger name when she entered back in 2006.

Why do you presume it's a bad thing to enter Unser Song für Malmö? The participants get exposed in primetime TV with very high probability to reach new fans regardless of genre. Is there a risk of losing fans for "selling out"?

Firstly, I don't personally think it's a bad thing to enter a national Eurovision selection, but we're talking Germany and not Sweden here. In most countries if you have an established career Eurovision is sadly not an option because of the way the public and music people look at this contest. It's sad that it is like this, but it is what it is. You're not seeing "in" names in this line-up.

I don't think Cascada is the type of group that would be considered 'selling-out' though as their type of music and public probably fits well into the prejudiced idea of what Eurovision supposed to be.

Yes, even in Sweden it's still rather cheesy to enter Melodifestivalen, but the advantages of doing so are so great. It would be interesting to see what consequences an emerging German pop artist would face if entering the contest. Is it better to keep struggling playing at clubs and slowly building your fan base?

Yeah, even in Sweden where it's commercially beneficial to enter MF even, it's still not considered 'worthy'...

Well, non-names could benefit even in Germany I guess (hello Lena), but it's still a risk even for them if they want to be accepted by the snobby music critics.

Re: GERMANY 2013

Sadly, probably Söhne Mannheims will win... Just sad that their songs don't work if you can't understand the lyrics, which means that Germany will fail next year :(

At least I'll try to vote and vote and vote for Cascada next year and hope for a dream coming true :)

I'm not really impressed with the choices, to be honest. NDR will reveal the 12th act in a few days apparently, I still hope it'll be a good one...
And if it will be yet another non-great entry, I'll just have one wish for our entry: Please not Söhne Mannheims :?

Re: GERMANY 2013

Interesting line up, there are several acts that look promosing but all I have to say is please DO NOT send Soehne Manheims

1. I really don't care for their style
2. Regardless of my personal dislike, I just can't see their music being appealing internationally. I know we don't know the song but I highly doubt they're going to switch things up for Malmo.

Cascada is a surprise and we shall see what they can come up with. If it's anything like "Evacuate the dancefloor" then we're golden... :)

If you say so...in terms of a British perspective Cascada are a big name for ESC. Nobody here has heard of Kate Ryan

+1.

Cascada is faaar more popular in Slovenia than Kate Ryan. Almost everyone knows "Everytime We Touch", because it was played all the time in my childhood. Also, their version of "Last Christmas" is veeery popular during Christmas time.

Some other songs got quite a lot of airplay too! :)

And about Kate Ryan .. I didn't hear any of her songs on the radio and I'm pretty sure if I asked around, nobody would know her. I wouldn't too, if I wasn't a Eurovision fan. xshrug

I know that she's pretty popular in Francophonic countries though.

Of course, Kat Ryan is well-known in Belgium and became little known in France thanks of her covers of Mylene Farmer. Her "Désenchantée" was a radio hit but she's not that known in France.
As for Cascada, she's really well-known (contrary to all the other names, unknown in France), ans it matches France aweful taste in music ! :D

Still can't believe Cascada actually applied  This will be so epic! Also looking forward to see what Blitzkid does :)

And I had only heard 1 song by Kate before she entered ESC so... Cascada, on the other side, has been on MTV charts with each of their new song releases so I'd say they are quite popular, in ESC terms at least...

I don't know about Slovenia, but Kate Ryan was decently big in whole Central-Europe, she was probably a bigger name even here in Sweden at time than Cascada were.

But do you really consider them big in general? What I meant is that they are sort of has-beens now so they have nothing to loose to enter, sort of like Blue aswell.
