FSC Norway - June 2011 - Erik og Kriss feat. Byz - Ølbriller

B]

Representing Norway in June 2011 is the Norwegian Hip Hop-duo Erik og Kriss feat. Byz with a Summer Party-song for the dancefloor. Here is some more information about them.

Erik og Kriss is a Norwegian Hip Hop (Rap) group created by the Norwegians Erik Mortvedt and Kristoffer Tømmerbakke. They began their musical career when they created the High School graduation (“Russ”) song “Legenden” in 2002 and made it available online. They gained popularity and thus began to actively produce songs that were made available on their website. They moved to a more professional location after Kriss started collaborating with the music producer Svein E. Fjellstad and started a studio and production company, Brickwall Studio Productions. The duo signed an agreement with the ArtistPartner Agency at the start of 2006, something which increased the number of concert appearances drastically. In the Summer of 2006, the group reached their big goal when they signed a contract with the record company MTG Music.

In 2007 they released their debut-album “Gull og Grønne Skoger”. The album received mixed reviews but had fair sales and popularity especially among the younger generation of fans. In 2008, the group released their follow-up album “Verden Vil Bedras”. Once again they got mixed reviews in the press but fan-popularity was good. Another album called “Tabu” came in 2009. In 2010 they released the single “Lighter” which became very popular. The song was included on their latest CD-album “Back to Business” which was released in January 2011. This album also included another single called “Ølbriller” which is the song we have chosen as the Norwegian entry here in FSC June 2011.

Erik og Kris have a particular musical style, where melodious Hip Hop and Rap meets catchy commercial-type Pop. This has given them many fans but also some criticism from other Norwegian Rap-artists who think Erik og Kris have become too commercial in their style. They sing/rap primarily in Norwegian but also sometimes with vocals (also from guest-artists) in English. On a few of their latest songs they have also had guest-performances by Swedish pop/rap-artists. Their song-themes are a mixture of the serious and the more lighthearted/fun/happy; they have for instance sung about drug-abuse, bullying, media scare-tactics etc, but also about girls, fun, parties and drinking to name a few.

Besides making music, Erik og Kriss have taken part in various tv-shows, not the least “Det Store Korslaget” (a popular music-contest on Norwegian Tv 2 with “peoples’ choirs”) in early 2011 where they came a very respectable 3rd. There is little doubt that Erik og Kriss are one of Norway’s most popular Hip Hop/Rap-groups. Their concerts and albums/songs will without doubt continue to thrill their many fans in Norway and internationally in the years to come.

Byz (real name Jorma Andreas Byström) is a Swedish Hip Hop-musician from Sala. His artist-name is inspired by his last name. He started his career in 1999/2000 as a musician with the group ”Inte helt oskyldiga”. He then released his first solo album ”There Is Still A Party Going On” in 2003. In 2004 Byz had planned to end his music career but decided against it, and released his second solo album “From Here To Somewhere” during the summer of that year. The album was sold in limited edition just like his first 100 pieces of records, mainly for friends and family.

In recent years, with the help of the Internet, his music has spread rapidly. In 2005 Byz released his first Swedish album called “Når botten i toppen av en sjuttis”. He had a popular single called "Karatefylla". In 2008 Byz initiated a closer cooperation with his former companion, Headline. This collaboration was to result in the joint album ”Does it look like I care” released in the second quarter of 2009 via their website. Unlike the previous albums, it was made available for free. Last year Erik og Kriss approached Byz and he agreed to contribute with Swedish Rap-vocals on Erik og Kriss’ new Hip Hop-song “Ølbriller”.

“Ølbriller” is a happy party-song written for the dancefloor with happy-go lyrics which speak of how women often seem all the more attractive to men after the men have had a few drinks .. and vice versa (“ølbriller”=”beer-glasses”; i.e. the type which - due to the consumed alcohol - makes you see a better/greater/more gorgeous reality [person] than is [truly] there in front of you..).

Our entry for FSC June, “Ølbriller”, is alas a catchy Norwegian Hip Hop-song perfect for the Summer Party. We are happy to enter the talented and successful Norwegian Hip Hop-duo Erik og Kriss feat. Byz in the FSC for Norway.

Below are the Norwegian lyrics (and the lyric-parts in Swedish and English) for the song as well as an approximate translation into English. We hope you’ll enjoy the Norwegian entry for June! :)

Erik og Kris feat. Byz - Ølbriller

Yeah okay!

I’m fat, I’m single, I’m ready to mingle
I’m fat, I’m single, I’m ready to mingle
I’m fat, I’m single, I’m ready to mingle
I’m fat, I’m single, I’m ready to mingle

Ge mig de ge mig nått mera i från baren / Give me some more (to drink) from the bar
Kliver på kommunicera lever dagen / Hard to communicate all day
Ser du hon där ser du hon men / Can you see her, see her
Ser du hennes omfång / Can you see her body
Ge den dära kroppen en omgång / Give that body a slap

Kom kom gör de bra / Come come, are they doing ok
Är det klart slut / Is it over
Dricker mer så hon börjar se bra ut / Drinking more so she starts looking good
När hon ler så när hon slänger på smilet / When she laughs, when she smiles
Är de inte längre nå tvivel / Then there is no longer any doubt

Hun var dama som alltid bare fikk dritt / She was the girl who was always told off
Dama som aldri kunne få Brad Pitt / The girl who could not have Brad Pitt
En stygge andunge, fikk ingen drømmefyr / An ugly duckling, she got no dream-prince
Ingen lykkelig slutt, dette ekke et eventyr / No happy ending, this is no fairytale

Men er du storkar, på en god dag / But if you have money, on a good day
Og blar opp noe vodka i en god bar / And get some vodka in a good bar
Om du drikker deg skjevere enn tårnet i Pisa / If you become so drunk you can’t see straight
Kan du drikke henne gjevere enn Mona Lisa / She will look greater to you than Mona Lisa

Hva hadde skjedd, skjønte ikke det spor / What happened, I understood nothing
Kunne hun ha klart å bare drikke det bort / Could she have become so drunk too?
Ikke så fort, ble bare finere etter det / Not so fast, she became lovlier afterwards
Vinen gjorde henne 90 kilo lettere / The wine made her 90 kiloes lighter

Så ut som en litt femi mann for en time siden / She looked a feminine-looking man 1 hour ago
Nå var hun Britney, kan det være hvitvinen / Now she was Britney, could it be the white wine
Som gjorde låvedøra hennes om til skinke / That made her big butt seem so smaller
Kan vinen funke, som slankekur og sminke / The wine does the job of a diet and a makeup

Du skremte meg først / You scared me at first
Men jeg var tørst / When I was thirsty
Så drakk jeg deg pen / Then I ”drank” you pretty (=my drinking made you seem pretty to me)
Som Prinsesse Madeleine / As pretty as (the Swedish) Princess Madeleine

Du skremte meg først / You scared me at first
Men jeg var tørst / When I was thirsty
Så drakk jeg deg pen / Then I ”drank” you pretty (=my drinking made you seem pretty to me)
Som Prinsesse Madeleine / As pretty as (the Swedish) Princess Madeleine

In i bilen baby / Into the car, baby
Jag diggar stilen baby / I love your style, baby
Jag hade helt glömt bort dina kilon baby / I had forgotten about your excess weight, baby
More cushin for the pushin / More to handle
Ush vilken rush och byzan han är turstig / Ah, he is thirsty for love
Super henne lustig / Ready for her

Hon ser ut som Beyoncé / She now looks like Beyonce
Men efter all sprit är det inte så konstigt / But after all the drinking it’s not so strange
Nu kommer du hit baby nu har vi sex / Come over here, baby - let’s have sex
Sen är det back to the gym back to d-flex / Then it’s back to the gym to flex the muscles

Hun blir villere av med fillene / She becomes wilder, off with the clothes
Med nok vin kan du drikke av henne brillene / With enough wine you can make her ”blind”
Shots gjør hun fancy, vin gjør henne classy / Shots makes her fancy, wine makes her classy
Hun svinger seg som Baby gjør i Dirty Dancing / She dances like Baby does in Dirty Dancing

Hun er dronningen i enhver skitten bule / She’s the queen of any sleazy place
Og hun lyser opp gulvet som en disco kule / And she shines on the discofloor like a discoball
Hun er ex-heks, nå vil hun ha sex / She is a former witch/bitch, now she wants sex
Ølbriller på check ready set / “Beer-glasses” ready steady go

Trodde aldri jeg skulle røre det beistet / Never thought I would touch that animal
Virka feit, med den teiteste sveisen / Seemed fat, with the worst hair-style
Hun ble tightere, kanskje åleit men / Then she seemed slimmer, perhaps quite ok
Seinere ble hun heitere enn peisen / Later she became even hotter than the oven

I stad var hun alt annet enn hot / Before she was anything but hot
Nå var hun faen så flott, en slags Askepott / Now she looks great, like a Cinderella!
Hun ble så søt som en smak av honning / She became as sweet as honey
Hun var plutselig ballets dronning / She was suddenly the prom-queen

I’m fat, I’m single, I’m ready to mingle
I’m fat, I’m single, I’m ready to mingle
I’m fat, I’m single, I’m ready to mingle
I’m fat, I’m single, I’m ready to mingle

FSC Norway - July 2011 - Eva & The Heartmaker - Signals

CyavXoE.jpg

Representing Norway in July 2011 is the Norwegian pop group Eva & The Heartmaker. Here is some more information about them.

Eva & The Heartmaker consists of the Norwegian vocalist Eva Weel Skram (born 1985) and fellow Norwegian musician/guitarist Thomas Stenersen (they are now a married couple).

Eva came to the Norwegian people’s attention when she participated in the Norwegian 2005 pop-IDOL competition where she came a respectable 6th. She studied music, dance and drama at high school and was interested in music from an early age.

Before joining Eva & The Heartmaker, Thomas was a member of the band Diversion Blue (he was guitarist) in the period 1999-2003.

In August 2006 they released their first album together under the band-name Eva & The Heartmaker. The album was called “Behind Golden Frames”. Their second album was called “Let’s Keep This Up Forever” and was released in 2009. Their musical style was retro-sounding melodious pop with hints of 70s music, the Cardigans and the Beatles, and the album was well received by the critics.

Albums

Behind Golden Frames (2006)
Let's Keep This Up Forever (2009)
Dominoes (February 2011)

Singles

Superhero (2009)
Please! (2009)
Let’s Keep This Up Forever (2009)
Mr Tokyo (June 2010)
Signals (November 2010)

Their third and latest album “Dominoes” was released in February 2011. The album was preceeded by a couple of popular singles in 2010: first “Mr. Tokyo”, and then “Signals” (released in November 2010) which is the song we have chosen as the Norwegian entry here in FSC July 2011.

Their latest album is more retro-synth pop in style and has been well received by both fans and critics alike. Commenting on their slight change of musical style for their latest album, Eva has said: “There’s no point in making the same record twice. We’ve always been very fascinated by pop music, but perhaps we haven’t dared doing it in full yet. The new album has a more synthetic style. And it’s even more poppy.”

Eva & The Heartmaker have played at concerts and festivals both nationally and abroad with success, together with a live-band consisting of different Norwegian musicians. Based partly in London (UK) and Norway they want to continue to make pure pop music for everyone’s enjoyment. There is little doubt that we will hear more from this talented group and band in the future.

“Signals” is a happy Norwegian retro-synth pop song by a talented duo, a song that has become popular among their fans both in Norway and in other European countries. It is a joyous pop-song that will put a smile on anyone’s face.

Our entry for FSC July is alas another catchy song to be enjoyed now in the summer months. We are happy to enter Eva & The Heartmaker in the FSC for Norway.

Below are the English lyrics for the song. We hope you’ll enjoy the Norwegian entry for July! :)

Eva & The Heartmaker - Signals

When you're driving into town
Turn me on, I'll always be around
Endlessly awake and onward bound
So stay with me, I'll never bring you down

Can you hear me coming through?
Do you feel like I do?

Keep my yesterdays alive
I’ll always be here by your side
Every chapter that we write
I am calling out tonight

You don't ever have to be alone
Never gonna let you go
‘Cause I'm your radio, your radio

Signals flash across the sky
Sing and dance along an ocean drive
Draw you to my airwaves like the tide
Another moment to remember all your life

Can you hear me coming through?
Do you feel like I do?

Keep my yesterdays alive
I’ll always be here by your side
Every chapter that we write
I am calling out tonight

You don't ever have to be alone
Never gonna let you go
‘Cause I'm your radio, your radio

We are falling all the time
We are falling all the time
We are falling all the time

Singing ooh ooh..

Keep my yesterdays alive
I’ll always be here by your side
Every chapter that we write
I am calling out tonight

You don't ever have to be alone
Never gonna let you go
‘Cause I'm your radio, your radio

Every chapter that we write
I am calling out tonight

You don't ever have to be alone
Never gonna let you go
‘Cause I'm your radio, your radio

FSC Norway - August 2011 - Sirenia - Fading Star

DxGgUyd.jpg

Representing Norway in FSC August 2011, and for the 2nd time in the FSC, is the popular Norwegian Metal-band Sirenia who play Symphonic Metal (with Goth influences). Here is some more information about them.

Sirenia, named after the Sirens of Greek mythology, was founded in 2001 by Norwegian musician Morten Veland (who currently also has a one-man Metal-band called Mortemia), after he left the Norwegian Gothic Metal band Tristania due to musical disagreements and personal differences.

The band has had several changes in members over the years, but the current members of Sirenia are:

Morten Veland (band founder; songwriter, guitar, growl vocals, synth-programming)
Ailyn (female clean vocals)
Michael S. Krumins (guitar)
Jonathan Perez (drums)

Michael and Jonathan have made their career(s) in Norway with Sirenia. Ailyn, or Pilar Giménez García as is her full name, is a Spanish former X-Factor contestant.

Back in 2001 the band failed to find a suitable singer prior to recording their debut-album in France, so they conducted auditions and found the singer Fabienne Gondamin for the recording of their 1st album “At Sixes and Sevens” in 2002.

Sirenia’s 2nd album “An Elixir For Existence” came in 2004 plus one EP “Sirenian Shores” also in 2004. For these albums Sirenia recruited the Norwegian singer Henriette Bordvik. Sirenia sounded on their first albums like a mixture of hard Goth Metal and Rock with classical Symphonic influences (including choirs), as well as black and death metal elements. In other words, they combined strong melodic instrumentals, synthesizers, and metal guitars with light female vocals, male death vocals (growls), clean male vocals, a choir, and violins. Together with Theatre of Tragedy and Tristania they were the dominant bands in Norwegian Gothic/Symphonic Metal for several years.

Their album “Nine Destinies And A Downfall” was released in February 2007. This album presented a slight change in musical style for the band, leaving behind most of the harsher Death Metal-elements of their music and moving toward more Symphonic and a somewhat “softer” pop-styled Metal. With this album Sirenia introduced a new female singer, Monika Pedersen (Sinphonia) from Denmark, who joined the band after the departure of former female vocal singer Henriette Bordvik. The “business” side of things also changed: Sirenia signed with Nuclear Blast Records (previously they were signed with Napalm Records) in order to reach an even bigger audience worldwide. A melodious pop-style influenced Symphonic Metal/Rock-single “My Mind’s Eye” from the album became popular, reaching out to a more mainstream-audience.

In 2009 they released an album called “The 13th Floor”. Many saw it as a Symphonic (with Goth influences) Metal album, pop- and mainstream-oriented, which gave the band a broader audience worldwide but which also disappointed many of their more hardcore-fans who wanted a harder metallic edge to Sirenia’s music. A popular single from this CD was “The Path of Decay”. With this album Sirenia once again changed female vocalist, Monika Pedersen having left the band in late 2007 after musical disagreements. The new female Sirenia-singer became Pilar Giménez García, alco called Ailyn, best known as a Spanish former X-Factor contestant. Her beautiful and angelic-style (non-operatic) vocals fitted Sirenia’s new sound well.

In late January 2011, Sirenia released their latest album called “The Enigma of Life”. With this album Morten Veland showed that Sirenia had fully embraced their new Symphonic Metal “with Goth and Pop-influences” Sound. The album featured Ailyn again on female vocals and included 12 songs plus some bonus-tracks. The album was preceeded in December 2010 by their first single “The End Of It All” which was accompanied by a music-video. Other great songs on this album were “All My Dreams”, the Norwegian entry in FSC March 2011, and “Fading Star” which is the song we have chosen as the Norwegian entry here in FSC August 2011.

The album received, in truth, mixed reviews (with hardcore-reviewers thinking the album “too soft and pop-styled”, preferring Sirenia’s older and harder metal, while other reviewers were positive, praising the album for its nice melodic metal sound and broader mass-appeal as well as its excellent production), but there is little doubt that Morten Veland knows his craft and that Sirenia will continue to produce good Goth-influenced melodic Symphonic Metal in the years to come.

Our entry for FSC August, “Fading Star”, is alas a strong melodic Symphonic (with Goth influences) Metal song with metal guitars, powerful riffs and a strong latin choir in the chorus. We are happy to enter Sirenia for the 2nd time in the FSC for Norway, giving you yet another glimpse into the world of Norwegian melodic Metal.

Below are the English lyrics for the song. We hope you’ll enjoy the Norwegian entry for August! :)

Sirenia - Fading Star

You know all dreams they fade with time
They're slowly dying in the darkest corners
Of your aching mind

A radiant star has lost its shine
Now consumed by all the darkness and the pain
Within this life

-Chorus: latin choir-

The fading embers burning out
While you linger here, forever more in darkness
And in doubt

-Chorus: latin choir-

~Spoken~:
All my dreams they fade
See them pass away
See them all decay
All of my dreams fade away

Into the night
Out of my sight
Like candle lights
All of my dreams fade away

All of my dreams have come to an end

-Chorus: latin choir-
