Representing Norway in June 2011 is the Norwegian Hip Hop-duo Erik og Kriss feat. Byz with a Summer Party-song for the dancefloor. Here is some more information about them.
Erik og Kriss is a Norwegian Hip Hop (Rap) group created by the Norwegians Erik Mortvedt and Kristoffer Tømmerbakke. They began their musical career when they created the High School graduation (“Russ”) song “Legenden” in 2002 and made it available online. They gained popularity and thus began to actively produce songs that were made available on their website. They moved to a more professional location after Kriss started collaborating with the music producer Svein E. Fjellstad and started a studio and production company, Brickwall Studio Productions. The duo signed an agreement with the ArtistPartner Agency at the start of 2006, something which increased the number of concert appearances drastically. In the Summer of 2006, the group reached their big goal when they signed a contract with the record company MTG Music.
In 2007 they released their debut-album “Gull og Grønne Skoger”. The album received mixed reviews but had fair sales and popularity especially among the younger generation of fans. In 2008, the group released their follow-up album “Verden Vil Bedras”. Once again they got mixed reviews in the press but fan-popularity was good. Another album called “Tabu” came in 2009. In 2010 they released the single “Lighter” which became very popular. The song was included on their latest CD-album “Back to Business” which was released in January 2011. This album also included another single called “Ølbriller” which is the song we have chosen as the Norwegian entry here in FSC June 2011.
Erik og Kris have a particular musical style, where melodious Hip Hop and Rap meets catchy commercial-type Pop. This has given them many fans but also some criticism from other Norwegian Rap-artists who think Erik og Kris have become too commercial in their style. They sing/rap primarily in Norwegian but also sometimes with vocals (also from guest-artists) in English. On a few of their latest songs they have also had guest-performances by Swedish pop/rap-artists. Their song-themes are a mixture of the serious and the more lighthearted/fun/happy; they have for instance sung about drug-abuse, bullying, media scare-tactics etc, but also about girls, fun, parties and drinking to name a few.
Besides making music, Erik og Kriss have taken part in various tv-shows, not the least “Det Store Korslaget” (a popular music-contest on Norwegian Tv 2 with “peoples’ choirs”) in early 2011 where they came a very respectable 3rd. There is little doubt that Erik og Kriss are one of Norway’s most popular Hip Hop/Rap-groups. Their concerts and albums/songs will without doubt continue to thrill their many fans in Norway and internationally in the years to come.
Byz (real name Jorma Andreas Byström) is a Swedish Hip Hop-musician from Sala. His artist-name is inspired by his last name. He started his career in 1999/2000 as a musician with the group ”Inte helt oskyldiga”. He then released his first solo album ”There Is Still A Party Going On” in 2003. In 2004 Byz had planned to end his music career but decided against it, and released his second solo album “From Here To Somewhere” during the summer of that year. The album was sold in limited edition just like his first 100 pieces of records, mainly for friends and family.
In recent years, with the help of the Internet, his music has spread rapidly. In 2005 Byz released his first Swedish album called “Når botten i toppen av en sjuttis”. He had a popular single called "Karatefylla". In 2008 Byz initiated a closer cooperation with his former companion, Headline. This collaboration was to result in the joint album ”Does it look like I care” released in the second quarter of 2009 via their website. Unlike the previous albums, it was made available for free. Last year Erik og Kriss approached Byz and he agreed to contribute with Swedish Rap-vocals on Erik og Kriss’ new Hip Hop-song “Ølbriller”.
“Ølbriller” is a happy party-song written for the dancefloor with happy-go lyrics which speak of how women often seem all the more attractive to men after the men have had a few drinks .. and vice versa (“ølbriller”=”beer-glasses”; i.e. the type which - due to the consumed alcohol - makes you see a better/greater/more gorgeous reality [person] than is [truly] there in front of you..).
Our entry for FSC June, “Ølbriller”, is alas a catchy Norwegian Hip Hop-song perfect for the Summer Party. We are happy to enter the talented and successful Norwegian Hip Hop-duo Erik og Kriss feat. Byz in the FSC for Norway.
Below are the Norwegian lyrics (and the lyric-parts in Swedish and English) for the song as well as an approximate translation into English. We hope you’ll enjoy the Norwegian entry for June!
Erik og Kris feat. Byz - Ølbriller
Yeah okay!
I’m fat, I’m single, I’m ready to mingle
I’m fat, I’m single, I’m ready to mingle
I’m fat, I’m single, I’m ready to mingle
I’m fat, I’m single, I’m ready to mingle
Ge mig de ge mig nått mera i från baren / Give me some more (to drink) from the bar
Kliver på kommunicera lever dagen / Hard to communicate all day
Ser du hon där ser du hon men / Can you see her, see her
Ser du hennes omfång / Can you see her body
Ge den dära kroppen en omgång / Give that body a slap
Kom kom gör de bra / Come come, are they doing ok
Är det klart slut / Is it over
Dricker mer så hon börjar se bra ut / Drinking more so she starts looking good
När hon ler så när hon slänger på smilet / When she laughs, when she smiles
Är de inte längre nå tvivel / Then there is no longer any doubt
She was the girl who was always told off
Dama som aldri kunne få Brad Pitt / The girl who could not have Brad Pitt
En stygge andunge, fikk ingen drømmefyr / An ugly duckling, she got no dream-prince
Ingen lykkelig slutt, dette ekke et eventyr / No happy ending, this is no fairytale
Men er du storkar, på en god dag / But if you have money, on a good day
Og blar opp noe vodka i en god bar / And get some vodka in a good bar
Om du drikker deg skjevere enn tårnet i Pisa / If you become so drunk you can’t see straight
Kan du drikke henne gjevere enn Mona Lisa / She will look greater to you than Mona Lisa
Hva hadde skjedd, skjønte ikke det spor / What happened, I understood nothing
Kunne hun ha klart å bare drikke det bort / Could she have become so drunk too?
Not so fast, she became lovlier afterwards
Vinen gjorde henne 90 kilo lettere / The wine made her 90 kiloes lighter
Now she was Britney, could it be the white wine
Som gjorde låvedøra hennes om til skinke / That made her big butt seem so smaller
Kan vinen funke, som slankekur og sminke / The wine does the job of a diet and a makeup
Du skremte meg først / You scared me at first
Men jeg var tørst / When I was thirsty
Så drakk jeg deg pen / Then I ”drank” you pretty (=my drinking made you seem pretty to me)
Som Prinsesse Madeleine / As pretty as (the Swedish) Princess Madeleine
Du skremte meg først / You scared me at first
Men jeg var tørst / When I was thirsty
Så drakk jeg deg pen / Then I ”drank” you pretty (=my drinking made you seem pretty to me)
Som Prinsesse Madeleine / As pretty as (the Swedish) Princess Madeleine
In i bilen baby / Into the car, baby
Jag diggar stilen baby / I love your style, baby
Jag hade helt glömt bort dina kilon baby / I had forgotten about your excess weight, baby
More cushin for the pushin / More to handle
Ush vilken rush och byzan han är turstig / Ah, he is thirsty for love
Super henne lustig / Ready for her
Hon ser ut som Beyoncé / She now looks like Beyonce
But after all the drinking it’s not so strange
Come over here, baby - let’s have sex
Sen är det back to the gym back to d-flex / Then it’s back to the gym to flex the muscles
Hun blir villere av med fillene / She becomes wilder, off with the clothes
Med nok vin kan du drikke av henne brillene / With enough wine you can make her ”blind”
Shots gjør hun fancy, vin gjør henne classy / Shots makes her fancy, wine makes her classy
She dances like Baby does in Dirty Dancing
Hun er dronningen i enhver skitten bule / She’s the queen of any sleazy place
Og hun lyser opp gulvet som en disco kule / And she shines on the discofloor like a discoball
Hun er ex-heks, nå vil hun ha sex / She is a former witch/bitch, now she wants sex
Ølbriller på check ready set / “Beer-glasses” ready steady go
Trodde aldri jeg skulle røre det beistet / Never thought I would touch that animal
Virka feit, med den teiteste sveisen / Seemed fat, with the worst hair-style
Hun ble tightere, kanskje åleit men / Then she seemed slimmer, perhaps quite ok
Seinere ble hun heitere enn peisen / Later she became even hotter than the oven
I stad var hun alt annet enn hot / Before she was anything but hot
Nå var hun faen så flott, en slags Askepott / Now she looks great, like a Cinderella!
She became as sweet as honey
Hun var plutselig ballets dronning / She was suddenly the prom-queen
I’m fat, I’m single, I’m ready to mingle
I’m fat, I’m single, I’m ready to mingle
I’m fat, I’m single, I’m ready to mingle
I’m fat, I’m single, I’m ready to mingle
