FSC Norway - October 2011 - Torstein Sødal feat. Anne Takle - Life Worth Living
Representing Norway in FSC October 2011 is the Norwegian pop/classical crossover-singer Torstein Sødal feat. the Norwegian singer and songwriter Anne Takle on a beautiful ballad and duet called “Life Worth Living”. Here is some more information about them.
Torstein Sødal, born in 1977, once a carpenter before starting his musical career, has a powerful voice that will capture you. As stated on his webpage: “If you listen to him at a packed Bislett Stadium in Oslo, in front of an ecstatic audience of 40.000 people in Moldova, at the Norwegian MGP, or during a Christmas concert; this is a voice you will not forget!”
Born and raised in a big family in Kristiansand in southern Norway, where music was a main influence, and where they actually have their own choir and marching band, it was perhaps natural for Sødal to become a musician.
His debut album self-titled “Torstein Sødal” came out in 2008. It entered the music charts in Norway and included the popular radio-hit and ballad “Winter Song”, his Norwegian MGP-song “Eastern Wind” (which came 2nd in MGP in 2008), as well as several other melodies in the pop/classical crossover genre. His powerful voice was evident on this album and it became very popular in Norway especially among adult audiences.
In July 2011 he released his 2nd album called “Our Story”. The album, which received fair reviews and became popular among his fans, included many memorable songs, including “Morning Mood” (a Norwegian hymn now given lyrics for the first time ever), and also the beautiful ballad and duet “Life Worth Living”, which featured the singer Anne Takle. “Life Worth Living” is the song we have chosen as the Norwegian entry here in FSC October 2011.
Kjetil Bjerkestrand, Martin Sjølie, Jörgen Elofsson and Adjoa Skinner are among the writers and composers on this new album, which was recorded together with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra.

Our Story (July 2011)
Over the last few years Torstein Sødal has been one of Norway's most popular artists during the Christmas season, touring with the church concerts named "Stille Natt, Hellige Natt", and with Hanne Krogh of ESC-fame, but his passion goes beyond the Christmas spirit. He has a large heart for humanitarian projects, something that also can be noticed in some of the lyrics on his new album "Our Story". As late as in April 2011 he visited Moldova, a country he has focused on during the past eight years trying to help disadvantaged children. His experience with these children has had a great impact on him: -“My meeting these children changed everything in my life. I felt for the first time that I had found my passion. I could make a difference for all these forgotten children”, says Torstein Sødal in an interview. Today he feels that he has really found his place, with an album that not only wants to offer you some good melodies, but also tells you a story with an impact.
Anne Tungland Takle, artist name Anne Takle, (born in 1976 into a “musical home”) also comes from the Kristiansand area of southern Norway. She originally wanted to become a songwriter (in an interview she said that she grew up with a dream of writing songs for other people), but realized that her talent as a singer meant she could combine singing with writing.
Rolf Løvland of Secret Garden fame came across this talented female performer and was so impressed with her that he wanted to work with her. Anne Takle therefore became the vocalist that sang on the “Nocturne”-version that was included on the 2007 Secret Garden album “Inside I’m Singing”. This became in many ways her breakthrough. That same year she also co-wrote (together with Laila Samuelsen) the song “Am I Supposed To Love Again” which Veronica Akselsen performed in the Norwegian MPG.
In February/March 2011 she released the single “Stay With Me”, a beautiful piano-ballad produced by Rolf Løvland, that received some radio-play and recognition. A second single from her forthcoming album was released in June 2011, named “Gravity”. In addition to this she features on Torstein Sødal’s ballad “Life Worth Living” which she co-wrote. 2011 has been a busy year for Anne Takle, with singles-releases, songwriting and concerts, and she now looks forward to getting her album released on Universal Records in the near future.
Torstein Sødal and Anne Takle are two very talented Norwegian singers, songwriters and performers, from whom we will without doubt hear more in the years to come.
Our entry for FSC October, “Life Worth Living”, is alas a beautiful and special ballad and duet with meaningful lyrics (about helping to change the lives of those less fortunate in the world), co-written by Anne Takle, performed with heart and soul by two of Norway’s finest singers. We are happy to enter Torstein Sødal feat. Anne Takle in the FSC for Norway.
Below are the English lyrics for the song. We hope you’ll enjoy the Norwegian entry for October!
Torstein Sødal feat. Anne Takle - Life Worth Living
Beauty works in the water
With her son and daughter
Washing clothes in the river
With a well, how can we change lives
How are you reaching out
To the world before you
Could you be giving more to
Others, a sorrow froze you
You can be sunlight
You can make Life worth living
Glad the heart that’s giving
Helping to change a life
Peter walks since the winter
Seeking lives with answers
Learning, cold in the small room
With a school, how can we warm his heart
How are you reaching out
To the world before you
Could you be giving more to
Others, a sorrow froze you
You can be sunlight
You can make Life worth living
Glad the heart that’s giving
Helping to change a life
You don’t know what to do
To grow the heart in you
Reach out and take a hand
How are you reaching out
To the ones who need you
Go where you heart will lead you
Help them to dry their eyes
How can we help
If we never try.
