Booooooring... I don't see what you others see ... I find this song UTTER BORING! xshrugxthink

A lot of people did consider 'Amor Pelos Dois' as being boring and outdated as hell too, when it had been picked out. It's a matter of feeling I guess. :D

I think "Amor Pelos Dois" was indeed boring and outdated, this however is something completely different... but yeah taste differs.

Interesting how different people hear things, Portugal last year to me was just 3 minutes of mumbling, this one actually has a clear melody and also it sounds like something more contemporary, can't say the same about Portugal that sounded like straight out of ESC 1950's.

Portugal 2017 is the most heart-warming and beautiful winner of all times. I love it more than I loved Conchita's victory as an Austrian.

It was a truly emotional experience to have Portugal as a winner and made me forget the upset of 2015, when Il Volo were snubbed by the juries....

This year, I feel like France is deserving the victory the most, the lyrics are also so touching, but then I am not so attached to this song like I was to Portugal last year. But I am not as attached to any song like I was last year. I miss being attached this year....

Yes, I agree with you A-lister... We all pick up different things in songs.... When I look back on songs I liked during the ESC-years it always comes back to three things.... Melody, Beat and...... Fun (meaning like "glimpse in the eye-fun*.... . :D )

A ESC song doesn't necessarily have to be extravagantly stage/costumed or be dance-y/fun to be memorable. Sometimes even the simplest ideas can be the most effective, and in this case it's the organic feeling that MM wants to convey to the audience during their performance in the final - the hand movement at the end of the song is a perfect example of that, Émilie often says that it is a symbol of connection between her and the people she and Jean-Karl are performing for

True that (that we see different things in music, and that's how it should be!).... however Portugal last year had nothing of that...

Actually this is memorable because the melody is strong, and this is one of the few non-English entries that I can see being picked up by radios after the contest (in particular if it wins), and that alone would be a huge victory for Eurovision and for linguistic diversity as well. It is a well crafted mid-tempo Pop song actually, it is contemporary enough and timeless enough and catchy yet serious and emotional, it's also having a certain French touch to it (not just the language), yet accessible for a wider audience. In my book, this has all the ingredients of being a good Eurovision winner because it includes so many elements (= strong memorable melody, sung in native language, local yet contemporary sounding, modern yet classic, emotional yet commercial, serious but nut pretentious).

I want to see the TV footage ! that's so looooong, cannot.wait.right.now

Prediction : they're gonna end between 5th - to 10th in the odds. I can't imagine bookies to bet on a staging based on a connection with a live audience set up

They're still 4th in the odds.

6th at the moment. Behind Israel, Norway, Estonia, Cyprus and Czech Republic. It's quite close to the last two of those though, so it's not far off regaining 4th if e.g. the rehearsal today goes well.

Depends on which odds. In eurovisionworld France is still 4th.

????

They're 4th on oddschecker and eurovisionworld, despite the fact that the :cz: and :cy: are quite close to it by now... :?

Anyway, all of the countries that are above :fr: has rehearsed twice at least, thus I expect :fr: to climb in the odds by the end of their rehearsals. :)

Oddschecker is useful, but it includes and averages a number of bookies that are slow to update, and which often have extra-short odds that nobody has any reason to take. As a result, they can sometimes be marginally off in ranking countries when the odds are close. Meanwhile, Eurovisionworld is (as far as I know) still only updated manually, so can be behind by a day or two (EDIT: Eurovisionworld seems to have automatically updating odds now, but since it's a compiler, still faces the same issues as Oddschecker).

The Betfair exchange tends to be the most representative of overall market strength – highest liquidity, fastest reactions to changes, longest available prices etc. – so that's what I'm referencing when I say that France is in 6th. It's certainly close, though: France is available at 16.5, Czech Republic at 15.5 and Cyprus at 15. So things could change quite easily by this time tomorrow.

I thought that Betfair exchange was somehow a betting outlet?

Not sure what you mean by "outlet" - I'm assuming it's just another term for a bookmaker? - but to sum things up it's a bet trading site, rather than a traditional bookmaker. Rather than one bookie setting the odds, any user can either place bets as per usual, or offer their own odds for other users to bet on. Due to the higher liquidity and the reduced need for having actual experts on standby to set and monitor the odds, it usually offers the longest odds available (the company running it takes a few percent off the winnings to get its own share of the revenue, but generally its odds are still the best once that's factored in).

So if you just want to place a bet or two, it functions kind of like a bookmaker, and its odds can be observed and analysed in the same way, but for the most part the higher liquidity and higher number of odds-setters means that it reacts more quickly than other bookies. That, plus the fact that it has higher odds, makes it more relevant for predictions in my eyes (if an outcome is available at 20/1 on most sites and 30/1 on another, then the 30/1 is sort of what matters, as you'd be silly to take the 20/1 in that situation; it's not the best available rate).
