they're surely gonna drop in the odds I guess cause during the rehearsals we tend to point out every flaw and I can't see France doing a first perfect rehearsal. But that shouldn't let people stop to root for them cause we all know some people really deliver on the day and are disappointing during rehearsal (that's why I don't take those rehearsals opinions too seriously)

Rooting for them ! (hard time not to when you're French, unless you don't really like the song) I'm proud of them whatever place they'll get and I'm still amaze at how many people truly think this could win.

Respect for that! You have a wide variety in your musical taste.
In my view it's like this: The French entry is serious music with high quality lyrics while Norway sent a simple children's song. And even the Norway fans can admit: If this wasn't sung by an ex-ESC-winner, it wouldn't even pass the semifinal.

I truly like all kinds of styles. This year there are in my top ten Estonia, Hungary, France, Norway and Georgia. But I don't find Norway childish at all. He is giving people jpy, and that is something completely different.

Being 2nd in the odds after these beyond simple yet efficient performances at several pre-parties is anything but a hint at our successful journey.
To be honest, it'd be a huge lack of genuineness from people, if they went on to criticise our rehearsal(s) if they considered it as being way too dull, unnoticeable and simple.

I expect a very technical rehearsal from France. Nothing magical at all this friday. But as far they sound good (as always they do) and they don't mess with weird gimmmicks or awckward costumes (and I assumme they won't), it will be fine for me.
Magic will come alone when the public is there.

According to Edoardo (the French HoD), the focus will mainly be on the entry rather than making up an incredible fast-food staging.

That's what he said in his tweet yesterday. While some of the other acts will have fancy effects and pyro, I think France's more simplistic approach will really connect with the juries and the audiences. As bochan said, once they get a crowd in the arena, I think that's when the true magic of the song and its message will shine through

"Music is not fireworks, music is feeling". What if Salvador already foretold that :fr: would win in the very end of it? :) xheya

don't quote that awful words he dare to say after winning ESC, that made his victory very sour to me. :p

BTW people are not genuine and they surely be disappointed with the lack or non-existence of a "true" staging, so be prepared to stay at best at 2nd or climb to 1st or at worst : slowly plunge in the odds. I think "Mercy" will come alive live, so I'm already prepared to see France being 5th or worse in the odds with just rehearsals.

That's why the odds of :fr: skyrocketed following their "simple" performances in London, Madrid with the same kind of recording as with the 1st/2nd rehearsals. It'd be so delusional for bookmakers to make us crash and burn in the odds, whereas it'd be the """"same"""" simple staging featured in Madrid, Amsterdam...

Anyway, even though we come up with an awesome staging, don't forget that Jamala was only 3rd when she won the whole thing. The same went for Salvador (he was 2nd), and I still don't get why.

Do not be so pessimistic, come on! CHIN UP!!

No offense but it's like you're comparing theatre and a blockbuster at the same level.
If we're doing a play of... let's say La La Land and an other of Superman. People will rather like La La Land cause it's more believable in a play while making a man fly in theatre...well you can try. Add all the FX you can have with a blockbuster and polish for La La Land, some people will continue to like La La Land but others will find the potential so cool with Superman and the awesome special effects and they're gonna like it more.

People loved Mercy cause it worked well in a "play", maybe the best. And if it was Sweden, you can't really excite people without all the package. But what happens if we put a La La Land in a Superman Scenery ? that's what Eurovision is all about, Portugal did it good last year cause they succeed to keep a "play" feeling (intimate) that was necessary for the success of the song in a blockbuster environment. It's more than being just simple, it's calculated to keep it simple cause the ESC stage is not simple, the lights are not simple, so it does need a staging, a staging of a "simple staging".

I think it's better not to compare with pre-parties, wait for the rehearsal, and listen to what the people that saw the tv feed have to say. And let's hope the french delegation will find the best way to embellish "Mercy". I hope as you wish to have a wonderful act and even if I don't trust Edoardo 100%, I think Madame Monsieur are much more aware of their image and what they have to do to make it great.

That's fine, I got your point. Wait and see. :)

Less than a half hour to go until rehearsal starts! I am nervous, yet optimistic at the same time

Hmm... I don't know, guys... It sounded a bit underwhelming to me.

I was watching the press room live reaction, they were completely silent wanting to just love love love this... and that wow reaction never came.

It just came accross as a bit of a let down. No winner vibes here.

Sorry for being so blunt. I know you guys are nervous as hell.
