Everyone but me seems to be """"""""a bit"""""""" pessimistic about the staging of :fr: this year. I mean, their performance in DE was somehow great, there's no need to worry. xpray

You know, he already posted a message on twitter asking people to be "lenient" towards MM's upcoming rehearsal because they would test a few things out... I don't how to interpret it tbh.

All I ask is to be pleasantly surprised, but Grassi tends to forget that if most delegations work actively on their presentations, it is for a reason. One can't just make an effort on one aspect, neglect the rest and then hope it'll be enough to work, even if one is high in the odds. He should have reassessed himself last year already, because Alma's performance had flaws that could have been avoided. This year will be particularly competitive staging-wise, so MM cannot afford not to have a well thought out presentation: as minimalistic as they might go, it needs to be on point. Otherwise, I don't want to see him cry about how robbed we've been because of thingummy or so-and-so.

I'm expecting :fr: to crash and burn in the odds then? xheat

What's that ?
Alma's staging was great and the two former years, we achieved the best we could. Youhouhou had 5 better songs above, and Alma didn't have a great song : it came nowhere in the charts and her career is rather a flop from now on... It was good, I liked it but there were way more competitive entries...

It exhausts me those blablas over staging, as if it's the biggest matter. Just tell me about Salvador camerawork...

Yeah, Alma was indeed so great she didn't seem to know what to do on that big stage that swallowed her, and those completely off wide camera shots that emphasized how transparent she was.

Salvador had tight camera shots that prevented viewers from getting distracted by random things, how can people connect to an act if an atmosphere is ruined by unsuitable angles?

If staging doesn't matter, then let's have one single fixed camera and forget about all the glitter then. It would be way cheaper and easier to handle.

I don't agree.

While France have delivered two solid songs the past two years, they still fall short on staging. I totally agree that Almas was all wrong, I personally found all the spinning at high speed with all the Paris 'scenery' very distracting from the song and dizzying. Not only that she looked totally drowned on that stage.

Also, if your HoD blamed France not storming to victory last year on politics then really nothing at all has changed for your eurovision delegation, only that they don't pick totally hopeless songs. You wont progress anywhere if not even your HoD believes the contest is fair. No reputable singer will touch eurovision.

I don't agree.

But he's right.
Camera work and lightings are even more important this year because there are not LEDs. Edoardo's tweet suggets that nothing is on point and they'll just figure it out along the way, just like the two years before.
Last year, it was obvious that they just bothered to produce a good backdrop and then let the production do everything else. There was no staging concept whatsoever. That's why Alma seemed so lost. Nothing was planned.

But that's not how you create a good presentation. And it's going to be a real problem this year since every delegation seems to have upped their game. It's not going to be disappointing on Friday but a car crash.

Look, that's exacly what I said

"We are going to Lisbon to deliver a message of hope and inclusion. We are not going to compete for the best staging. Song UPFront ! The rest will follow . AMEN"

The guys is still clueless after 3 years, isn't he ?

Not to mention the French journalist behind his back who is trying to convice himself it's gonna be good. He says that nobody will like it no matter what because it's simple, and fans don't like simple.

This whole thing reminds this meme

From my point of view, it's much harder this year to completely f*** up the staging.

The LEDs last year gave me an aneurysm. More than half the countries didn't use them right and France was one of them.

Just work with what the stage offers (may it be just simple lighting, that's ok) and you'll be fine.

Well, I have to say that I ain't as confident and optimistic about our forthcoming rehearsals as I seemed to be a few days back. Edoardo needs to focus on the mistakes that he and the whole delegation made with Alma. Amir was great with this staging, I think that these 5 entries did better than him because they deserved it.

As for Alma, they were proud of it, despite this performance, which was a bit... messy yet decent. Let's hope for the best. xpray

By the way, :au: just overtook :fr: in the betting odds. I don't really get why, but still...

You finally opened your eyes xyes
I like the song, I really do. But don't get your hopes too high with France, that's unnecessary. At best, the staging will go unnoticed.

Australia will have a better staging.

It would make sense at this point for Australia to overtake France in the odds because Jessica's first rehearsal is tomorrow while MM doesn't start till Friday. I'm still very optimistic that they will deliver a solid run-through

France's odds are shortening at a very fast pace. Eurovisionworld will follow the updates from oddschecker as well. No wonder why, :au: was weak today.

I fear that bookies will make :fr: crash and burn in the betting odds right after their rehearsal. Hopefully I'm wrong. :)

Estonia and Bulgaria delivered good stagings, and yet they drifted a lot.
It's likely to be car crash for France by Friday night.
