I admit it, IT TOOK ME A WHILE, but... yeah, I don't only like this, it's my favorite this year.
One of my criticism was that it was a little too cold and detached for such a sensitive topic, but now I think I can see why that was brilliant; see, if it was sung in a more melodramatic way, it would have been seen as way too over the top: the theme of the song is already a touchy one, you don't need to over-sell it, if that was done, it would have been seen as manipulative or trashy.
Singing in such a low-key way, well, makes the emotive connection feel more sincere. And yeah, French lyrics, not everybody will understand it, but... I don't know, I think this really sells pretty well the message; I had no idea what it was all about, but I felt it was something emotive, and I was right.
So, could it win? Well, it's unlikely, but feels a little more possible than when it was selected.
Last year, Italy was the big favorite, the song and the video went viral, but the problem was that it might have been way to early, so when the contest actually started, the mania and the hype already peaked and it was going downhill from there; this is the opposite: it's rising, and it could reach a pretty high point.
The problem is that, Israel doesn't seem to decline; if the song was picked earlier, maybe, but the hype around it is still going strong... but that's another topic, just wanted to share my two cents about the French entry.
