Mercy has been found according to a report from France Inter! She lives with her mom in a refugee camp in Sicily, and here is what she looks like today:

Glad to see Mercy healthy and alive :)
But I cannot stand the unmerciful comments at the bottom of the article. Humans, really??

As much as I really like the song (my fav this year) I honestly find it distasteful to expose this little girl to the hate and trolling on internet and the media in general. Her image shouldn't be used as if it were an object to watch in a museum. Not sure if her parents approved it, but even if they did, she's just a child that won't realise all this exposure until some years in the future.
What I mean is, do we really need to know how she looks? I don't think so. The story itself is enough.
To my eyes, "Mercy" (the song and the girl) doesn't need this kind of media coverage.

Well, the reporter who found Mercy with collaboration with an Italian journalist is a war-reporter. As Madame Monsieur said in the preselection that the end of the song would be to meet Mercy for real and to have good news from her, he decided to look for her. It's not part of a commercial plan. But it's nice to know that this is for real, it adds a lot of sense to this song.

It's really nice and I'm happy for MM that they will actually meet the little girl. I don't think it's a commercial strategy at all, not for MM at least, but perhaps for the media it is a story to sell. What I meant is that there is no need to know the face of Mercy, I just find it unnecessary to publish her photo.

I am absolutely the same opinion. People might find it a nice story, but why do we need a concrete face to the song? It would have been better for the girl to let her alone. The song is strong enough, it doesn't need this photo to complement the song in any way.

So here is the large article by France Inter (public radio, not a tabloid...)
https://www.franceinter.fr/amp/monde/mercy-plus-qu-une-chanson-une-mere-et-sa-fille-temoins-d-une-histoire-de-notre-temps?__twitter_impression=true

If you use Google Translate it is explained that they met the mother of Mercy several times and not photographed her at the first interview.
She explains her journey from Nigeria to offer a better life to her daughter, her first daughter called Gift stayed in Nigeria, her husband that left her alone in Libya where she was blocked and riscked human traffic, her life in immigrant camps in Italy...

Well, it reminds us that this is for real...

Over the last few days I took some time to listen to all 43 songs several times, read some lyrics and some background information on the internet.
Now I can say for sure that the French entry is my personal favourite this year. I want you to win this contest!!!
I like the beautiful melody, the amazing voice of the singer but especially also the lyrics which remind us that there are people fighting to stay alive so close our incredibly rich European environment. On the other hand we see growing racist and xenophobic tendencies in several countries.
If such a song would win the ESC it would be a positive signal AGAINST hate and violence and FOR humanity and compassion.

I don't get the hype around this at all. The melody doesn't sound that great, the chorus feels repetitive and very constrained (limiting the expression).

I have normally been a sucker for french Eurovision entries, especially the ballads and the non-uptempo songs. But this year I dont get the love for their entry. Sure Mercy is a nice little song, but I cant find it any interesting. Neither the melody neither the arrangement catches my interest. I have to admit that I do like her voice, though. I listen to this.. and my thoughts wander away from the song.
Alma was my favourite last year... but France is quite far from my top 10 this year.

I share your opinion, even if it is in my top 5 ( just because for me, each year, is hard to make top 10 on Eurovision, I listen and love barely 5 songs each years, without exception). Song is beautiful and quality, but I don't know, I loved their entries from 2016 and 2017 much more, they were catchier, and I like when some song have catchy melody, this song is somewhere in the middle, when it comes to that. :D

It's my 10th but I'll be so bothered by its victory. Not because it's not :hu:, it's just because I don't get the hype for just a chill electro pop song that would only do 5th-7th in a normal online contest. Same for :it: last year.

:fr: will do better than :il: though. That's for sure. Furthermore, I don't get your point about "electro pop". This entry doesn't have anything to do with an electro song or I may have misunderstood the whole thing about the entry sent from my native country.

Exactly! the correct answer to such a comment, however I am not so sure that it can beat :il: - I certainly hope so because the message is so universal!

The hype around the :il: entry will fade away no sooner than the rehearsals will kick off. :fr: will probably rise in the odds and :ee: might win in the end or :bg:.

My country mayn't win, but I'm so proud of M&M this year. Alma and Amir were both great, but MM are stunning. THIS IS IT.

It's currently 6th in the odds and closing in on Estonia in 5th. Whatever the outcome, be proud because France sent an amazing song this year!

What will be interesting to see is MM's starting position in the final. Since Björkman tried to sabotage them during Destination Eurovision, I wonder if he'll have the guts to put us 4th or 25th or between two acts higher in the odds. xthink

I guess it'll also depend on which half most of the favourites will go to, it could be 2015 and its uneven halves all over again, which I hope won't happen.
