What about Salvador in 2017 and Marija in 2007?

Good examples. :)

Personally, I don't like Salvador, but I understand how he has won the public. Marija has been excellent. I do not understand lyrics of the song, but it still touches me.
May the French entry touch the public the same way.

What about Salvador in 2017 and Marija in 2007?

Both very different songs to "Mercy" there. "Molitva" was an extravagant, over the top power ballad that set out to impress with it's delivery. That was a showstopper from when Eurovision was all about "BIG" sounding songs. "Amar Pelos Dois" was an achingly beautiful ballad with a sincere delivery. You didn't need a translator to understand it was coming from somewhere very deep. "Mercy" is an electronic song that's minimal in style and unless you speak French, I think it's difficult to decipher what it wants you to know and feel. I had no idea it was actually a song that was highly emotional lyrically until I was told.

A lot of songs are proving to us recently that music transcends language barriers, but i've got doubts about this one.

As ecstatic as I am about Madame Monsieur, tbh I would’ve been fine with anyone except Lisandro winning. I’m so glad the French public rejected his fast food
music, especially after hearing people go on and on about how he would win the televote in a landslide.

12 points.

My favourite was OK ou KO, but Mercy was a solid second. Good choice la France! Alma singing Requiem reminded me that she was my winner last year.. xheart

THE GOOD:
-This is a really easy listen.
-Her vocals are effortlessly performed.

THE BAD:
-The song, for me, doesn't really go anywhere. Call it a lack of instrumentation, I guess.
-I don't think the performance warranted that much participation from the crowd.

THE VERDICT:
I feel like there were better options for France this time around. While I like what they chose, this is a song that probably anybody could perform. At least to my ears, the song has simple vocals and simple instrumentation, yet it doesn't feel like a drag. 7 points

What about the refugee theme from the song? Would it be considered a political message by the EBU and get disqualified? I'm concerned about that.
I give it a 5 because I liked other songs in the national final and this doesn't really take me anywhere

Jamala's song could also be considered a "political message" and it won. I don't think a song with slight underlying message of refugees will be disqualified.

This song is okayish. Woman is sincere, I feel it. 7 points. I think It's probably better than Albania and has modern sound (without being generic). Could do well in Lisbon but realistically top-15 is the most they can hope for.

Douze points!

This Song triggers me emotionally like Portugal 2017 did. those lyrics and her angelic voice are killing it. the salvation through mercy theme is perfect for Jupiter in Scorpio.

Merci à la France pour avoir choisi la meilleure chanson!!!

For some reason I started to hear "Messi" instead of "Mercy" in the last 30 seconds of the song, and I can't unhear it now.
