Ouais, the producers of the song probably count exactly on something like that.

They'll be easily able to achieve a top 10 placement with a good revamp and a wonderful staging.

I'm not saying this is a guaranteed flop, but I don't quite understand the predictions that it's going to win. It kind of just feels like a slightly weaker Blackbird with some more meaningful lyrics – and, seeing as Blackbird failed to even qualify, I really don't see the lyrical quality being enough to bring it into contention. Top 10 is a possibility if they really tighten up all the elements – a decent revamp, strong staging, PR for the song's message, perfect vocals – but I don't expect much more past that.

Well, the positive is that the public overwhelmingly showed that they want it, and a lot of people here are happy and I wuv you all so that makes me somewhat happy too. I honestly don't get the hype surrounding this entry though. I haven't seen such a celebration of beige since Denmark were in fashion. It's not a horrific song (although I find the chorus and repeat "Mercy" line finale irritating). It's not committing any cardinal sins. It's just super basic and boring, and I find it a bit cringe-inducing how they try and present it as this sort of anthem it's not with that performance. It gives off a very awkward atmosphere to me. You could have had this song a million times by now at Eurovision, but songs like this always usually stay stuck floating around NFs with little to no fanfare. Also, how will you tell the story of this song at Eurovision? For a lot of people I see this going in one ear and out of the other. Staging is going to be extremely important.

Maybe in time "Mercy" can grow on me, but i've got to say i'm quite doubtful. I'm in resting bitch face mode at the moment and the only thing holding the power to change that tonight would have been an Emmy win. Oh well, let's see what happens with this, and whether is translates as well to the whole of Europe. French people obviously are in love.

3 points.

P.S. big respect to France for holding this NF. I really hope we see it again next year.

so, so disapointed for "OK ou KO" (6th from televote, seriously?!?) but also so so happy that "eva" cliché didn't make it. "Mercy" was my second choice, so the evening finished on a good note. I will root for Madame Monsieur until may :)

Uhh I like it a lot. Could easily do as well as "Requiem" did.
Gonna give it 7 points for now.

Re: FRANCE 2018

Thanks for clarification.

So they basically capitalise on the tragedy of this girl and her family ?

No, it's about hope and their message is that immigrants are humans too and deserve respect. ;)

We'll see.
The biggest concern is that people could not understand the song.

That's what commentators are for and also it really depends on the staging.

If they play their cards right and do this song and its presentation on the big stage justice they can aim for a win imo. Living to see France host the contest asap

Gonna give out my first 12 of the year really early. Love this song. Really happy they won.
I will be surprised if this doesn't place top 10. Wouldn't completely even rule out a win.

More proof that Eurovision is moving to songs that are more genuine and with actual feeling. Seeing the public reject the clinical, calculated "Eva" was fantastic.

A fantastic song, the best French entry in over a decade. No idea how well it will do, and don't care at the moment. Intense voting sequence!

12 points with love, from Scotland.

Just been re-watching the OK ou KO performance over and over; really wishing it had won now.

It had perhaps the best NF staging I've seen in years; it really made the song come alive, and I would've loved seeing that translated to the Eurovision stage. Now that would be a risk with some potential payoff.

As for Mercy... it's nice, but I'm not getting the wow factor that most people are. It could grow, but for now, 5 points.

Am I the only one who thinks that while the singer has a very pretty and pleasant sounding voice her vocals don't really match the depth and emotions of the lyrics :?

There doesn't seem to be much passion or feeling coming out in the delivery. I'm not expecting any theatrics but they sound lacking
