if only it was the case... i really hoped when euphoria won that we would have some strong pop novelty acts but we just had Glorious. I do think that - for a reason i can't explain - people tend to choose a runner-up like song or inspired : For the common linnets we had a lot of duets in 2015 (8 countries for maybe 2-3 (duets or not) really inspired by "Calm after the storm"). I already feel this year "funk" vibe with Belgium and Finland (due to the huge success of uptown funk but also the good result of Australia).

I'm very curious about the results France will have by the way. Not a winning song but we can't say they don't try this time. I'm just afraid that even finishing second they'll say that ESC is stupid and political. (2nd with any songs of course, not this one)

In my opinion, Euphoria wasn't that one-of-a-kind. I mean it had a solid melody, it was catchy. But I tend to think that Loreen's voice (along with the staging) made it special somehow. Arrangement-wise, it's pretty "Melodifestivalen standard". On the contrary, the original version of "My Heart Is Refusing Me" sound fresher and more inspired to me. So no wonder (for me) that we didn't have fantastic pop acts the year after.

I agree that the most obvious influenced entry was Glorious. Tbh I think Loreen's win led to a surge of uptempo electronic/pop songs (even if most of them actually weren't that modern) like Slovenia, Ireland, Norway, Latvia, and - dare I say - to a lesser extent Belgium, Romania, Montenegro. I don't mean all those entries were inspired by Euphoria, just saying the music style of the last winning entry sort of "attracts" new artists that may have a similar music genre.

Same with "Rise Like A Phoenix" and the sea of ballads it generated, "Fairytale" also had an overall impact on 2010.

As for runners-up, that was particularly right last year indeed.

Regarding France sore loser habits, you shouldn't worry too much because they'll complain as usual (even if a decent final position may tone their reaction down), that we had one of the best packages, Russia at the top, bloc voting, blah blah Then time will come when Nathalie says "I've learned so much from that edition, I know what I have to do next year" And here we go again. I guess they'll never change their post-contest attitude unless we win.

Well I think in terms of the very safe radio friendly modern pop songs we have had flood the contest this year (benefits of last year's Sweden victory ;)) this one is the best. At least it has a melody unlike that overhyped tuneless noise from Poland.

I have the feeling that this might surprise us all in May...

Just imagine the performance in the final based on this video:

For me it's a really good song, we can have a top 5 and maybe more in may, can not wait for the 12th march for the first official live :).

tuorem btw you're absolutely right about winners in 2015's case, J'ai cherché is the french-variété française version of Heroes. Very radio friendly. I'm happy they're following the good road (even if i didn't think that moustache was that bad, studio version was fine. The biggest problem is still that's a rip-off of papaoutai from Stromae)

I gave it 8 points, and I already want to take back that...

...I'd give it 12; I don't know why, I just loved it, now even more.

For Moustache, the staging was kinda tragic imo  The colours used were so ugly to watch and some camera angles were off. And the organizers killed us (once again) by putting us right after Sweden  and before Russia, that got a lot of attention too, we were considered as a filler that year.
