Ok another generic LGBTqixyzetc... anthem, not surprised as the songtitle Queens suggested it. Bland.

I think Saara has not found her music identity, she's tried so many different styles through these years and suddenly thought that a camp generic song might work in Eurovision because it's a spring gay fest. Wrong! She said in an interview that her team chose three songs that "could work for Eurovision". I think that's a mistake, instead of choosing something that is actually "hers".
She will certainly do well among eurofans in the euroclub in Lisbon and ESC social media... good for her, she's got the support of a bubble, but I'm afraid that won't be enough.

I mean, she has been trying to get to Eurovision for years now. You'd think she'd know better than this!

Re: FINLAND 2018 - Saara Aalto

I am truly, madly, deeply, horribly, utterly disappointed.

Did I really imagine that someone would actually put enough money and effort to write worthy songs for this year's entry? Really? Was that too much to ask tho?

The whole selection process seems ridiculous now - if they didn't have anything better than this, why just confidently pick the best one and announce that as the Finnish entry? Why in the name of gay Satan would someone imagine that this was a good idea, having three rather average pop songs with less production value than Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät, so that we can see if the audience would like any of them just a teeny little bit. I would have liked the idea if the three songs were all quite different from each other, and if any of them would be actually good in their own genre. A huge plus would've been if one of them could've sounded like a song that might please the ESC crowds. But now it's three songs that only aim to please and Monsters seems to do that to some extent, but it's not a good song. Not even close. Just Eurovision nonsense. Can't even call it a catchy tune since I haven't found a freaking melody yet, but I truly hope it's catchy enough to survive the semifinals.

Do I need to say that right now I feel a bit frustrated hahaha... will find some smiles and nods and supportive criticism in myself once the song is selected and done for.

"Monsters" is indeed the best, rather shockingly, although "Queens" is more interesting than "Domino". Finland seem like they could be in trouble here, which is a shame.

Note that a national selection and ESC are two different events in all sense. Saara doesn't really know better because she's a talented singer who's been always hungry for fame and recognition, ESC was just a platform that could give her some coverage, but she knew nothing or very little about it, just all the stereotypes about the festival. This explain how she tried first with a cheesy Disney princess ballad and then later a camp entry with flamboyant choreography... fulfilling all the streotypes indeed. It seems that she doesn't remember she lost to Sandhija because the jury thought her entry was dated and extremely forced.
I remember most of Finn eurofans bashing at her songs back then for trying too hard to please them, their support went unanimously to two cute young guys: Paradise Oskar (2011)and Mikael Saari (2016) of course for musical reasons only, yeah sure... She's never been the fandom favourite...what happened this year then? Does YLE really think she's well-known in Europe because of X Factor? Please, her 15 minutes of glory in UK is gone... she's already WHO? ... and the rest of Europe (aside the eurofan bubble) doesn't even know she exists.

Finland is starting to drop quite a lot in the odds.
odds are so weird. finland shot up the odds when monsters was released and, you know, monsters is still there. it's not like she will already send queens.

I'm guessing they were hoping that the 3rd song would be the strongest one of all? Maybe when "Monsters" was released the bookies/people betting thought "this is getting a good reception already, but surely the best entry won't be the first one released"

Odds doesn't mean anything, but I think the reason is that they see Monsters is in risk of losing to "inferior" songs.

My ranking:

1. Monsters
2. Queens
3. Domino

Not a single bad song, but melodically, visually and in terms of the performance possibilities, I think it has to be either Monsters or Queens to Lisbon xpray

Re: FINLAND 2018 - Saara Aalto

Monsters seems like the safest choice, probably a qualification with a middle-table result. Domino is a lot more bland, and would also be a probable qualifier IMO but would finish a bit lower.

My favourite, however, is Queens. It reminds me of a hybrid between a Marina & The Diamonds song and an upbeat Lana Del Rey song. Queens is definitely riskier - but the staging potential is so much higher than the other two songs.

Overall though, none of the songs are bad by any means, but none of them are groundbreaking either. I suppose that we'll see in May if cancelling UMK paid off - I'm sure Saara will be able to bring Finland back to the final, but I doubt she'll bring the contest to Helsinki next year.

The best choice would be Domino. Queen is dreadful and Monsters makes me nauseous. All 3 share an aggressive sound I don't like.

Queens is getting views way faster than Donimo and Finnish polls show that people mainly rank it higher too. Imagine if the juries put Domino first and Monsters last, and the televoting would do the exact opposite, and then Queens ended up winning

Ok, so since it's pretty obvious what the bubble thinks of these songs and Saara's lack of personality/ insatiable hunger for fame/ insert gripe here, does anyone know what the consensus is *outside* the bubble? Does everyone there think she's the worst thing since hitler or...?
Enlighten me.
