Personally, I don't think it's "slow" - we already got 5 entrants and 2 entries before 2025 kicked off.
Some of them are really promising / have been part of wishlists of fans, e.g. Adonxs, Claude.

We got a lot of rumours going on + national final song are about to be released / have already been released.

January is "slower" compared to February/March when we will be getting the most Eurovision entries but it's still exciting for us (hardcore) fans because we can discuss rumours, snippets and we will be getting the semi final allocation draw this month.

Also, the referendum in Basel about Eurovision funding was quite nerve-wrecking, wasn't it?
And we already got some drama, e.g. Montenegro (the winner withdraws), Albania (Elvana didn't win), some disqualified acts in the Croatian NF.

Actually, I think that this time is quite busy - 28 out of 39 countries are organising/hosting NFs this time!
We are about to be getting more songs than in recent years.

In general, mid-January to mid-March are the "busiest time" in the ESC season before the rehearsals kick in, though but personally, I think that we've already been treated well.
Starting from 25th January, we will be getting official Eurovision songs every week

Today it's the start of having a national final/preselection show every week until EBU's deadline in March ♡

My prediction before we're starting with the nfs:

TOP 10: :it::nl::ua::fr::pt::uk::be::ee::ch::no:
TOP 20: :sl::es::lv::hr::al::cz::de::fi::se::lt:
bottom 6: :pl::ie::am::rs::au::sm:/:gr:

NQ: :at::ge::az::mt::cy::me::is::dk::lu::md:

It's more or less baseless.

Are there any contenders among the NF Songs currently?
Or do we have to wait for the usual suspects?

Maybe I'm getting too ahead of myself...

but aside from Zjerm winning I'm starting to feel a little "ho-hum" about how this years Eurovision could be shaping up. There's not a lot going on in the national selections so far that's really making me stand to attention.

I love NFs this season! And some major ones are yet to come! :love:

So curious for Switzerland as a host, what will they pick...

Ugh, let's not talk about it
I've been wondering this for a bit, but Iceland's really been the tipping point: Are we getting more songs than usual with really overplayed tropes and lyricism? I know that there are only so many things to sing about, pop music especially tends to repeat itself a lot, love love peace peace, blah blah blah. But I'm not an avid lyric-listener and am generally poor at lyrical interpretation, and even I'm taking notice of trite lyrics. I've followed the pre-season for several years and feel like I've never seen it quite this bad. Is there an excess this year, or did I unknowingly gain lyrical insight over the past few months and it's always been like this?

I'd say both.

I think the Nordics specifically have lost the spark they had in the 2010s. All their songs sound more or less the same. Only Finland gives us good music. Norway and Iceland will surely nq this year.

MESC has always been poor lyrically and musically. Luxembourg needs to change their process as well.

Supernova is no caps the best NF this year - because it gave us indie, and I think indie music is the future of ESC. UMK has 3 songs that I like (Goldielocks, Erika and Viivi), Eesti Laul as well (Tommy Cash, An-Marlen and Minimal Wind).

All other nfs have like one song that I care about - Benidorm - Celine Van Heel, Polish nf - Lusterka - both very cultural and sincere.

Zjerm is also an alternative, indie song.

Well, for me it is all about the lack of internal selections and rumors/wishes from the fandom.
Everything Is oriented for February and March with NF's

Yes, Finland has never been better than in the 2020's. That goes for both their results and for my personal taste. Maybe the biggest improvement for a single Eurovision nation ever.

There are things that annoy me about especially Melfest, but overall I do think that there is a good variety in the Nordic NFs. Sometimes the overall impression may be that there isn't, but it's not hard to find many genres represented in the contests. Hiphop, eurodance, schlager, different types of rock, country, ballads, singer-songwriter stuff.

What I have noticed, is that people are eager to say "this is all just the same". But then, when a song does stand out, people quickly forget about it because it wasn't catchy enough (or lacked other qualities). I can think of more than 10 Danish songs in recent years that really stood out, and yet the Danish MGP is being called "bland" time and time again.

Danish NF is not bad. However, it is bland and unsalty most of times. That is why I do not like it. Melodifestivalen nowadays is a crap. They were lucky lately with one or two very good songs.
