Seriously the argument was over already, what's the point of commenting something like that again?

:au: (SBS) withdrawing unfortunately, probably, means that EBU has given them a permanent spot in ESC regardless of what EBU promised with the anniversary thing :(

:tn: is not even a Pacific-Asian country

If I remember correctly I don't think they ever said Australia was a one-off participation during the broadcasted shows, so I think it is indeed almost certain that Australia will become a regular participant

EBU proposed to Australia to compete also in Jesc 2015.
So, i think that means they stay.

Well Australia didn't say a word yet in JESC 2015 participation (i guess how the Australian children will deal with the timezone) and if then stay i guess that :kz: and ::na will protest soon about this.

Well EBU explicitly stated that Australia was invited only as a one-time-off anniversary thing (as long as they didn't win) and during the show they only said that Australia was invited for the anniversary, not anything about whether or not this would be permanent.

But we all know that EBU are not trustworthy in this and that somehow Australia ended up getting a free ticket...

The Australia thing was left as they would definitely be coming back if they won, but no one said that they wouldn't if they didn't ;)

Australia participating was fun, but making it permanent I don't know.

Perhaps making a permanent guest spot available for countries in the world. For example China, Canada, USA, Brazil, Japan, Jamaica ...

Not really, before the show it was always referred to as a 'one-off participation'.
I don't remember them ever specifically saying that. Maybe I'm wrong though.

I like this idea. Personally I think it might be fun if any "European" country outside Europe could participate every year, and then one guest sport per year for "non-European" countries.

Having a guest country participant is of course great advertising for the ESC around the world as well. But I think at the moment only Australia and China have shown interest of the contest. It would be rather silly to have the USA in if the local american interest is close to zero.

Canada and New Zealand broadcasted the shows this year, so they may be put in that category as well.
I would be fine with the idea of a "guest" slot tbh.

Canada broadcasts it in a gay cable TV channel and New Zealand in BBC. It's in no way comparable to China and Australia who broadcasted it in major networks.

You're right, but if I remember well, Eurovision started on a minor channel in China too. It may change in the years to come.

The deadline for countries to send their provisional participation is already next tuesday! After that countries that didn't send their application won't be able to participate. Until October 10th countries that sent in a provisional application can withdraw without paying a fine.
