Ahha now I get the Valentina thing..... hope that she next year will take a jazz song to ESC. Does Ralf Sigel compose jazz music??

Thats what I would like too. Hmm I don't know if Ralph does jazz. It would be pop jazz no doubt if he did which I really, really wouldn't want. Valentina is a great jazz singer with a wonderful understanding of the genre and music in general. There are many videos of her singing jazz on youtube. She scats great as well.

If they send her again next year they would really look ridiculous and desperate, everybody would laugh at them..I really hope she won't take part next year..hope she has at least a bit of decency not to try again next year.. :( But after accepting fb song, I'm doubtful tbh.. :? :(

I just hope Marco Mengoni won't be lower placed than her this year, cause that would also be a disaster! :(

I wouldn't be so jealous if I were you. My voice is beginning to falter and I'm starting to scare people, especially kiddies, when the high notes crack and my old skirts wave in a dangerous way.
It's so conforting anyway, having such a nice place where we can meet so many expert people and show off share our expertises.

You literally just killed me! I've never laughed so hard at a computer screen beforexrofl3

Post of the year award to you:rolleyes:

And indeed it is very comforting to be amongst similar souls here. Theres me, you and Mrm all with a strong, incomparable passion for dance. You must teach me one day about your culture and the ways of your dance. You may be getting on in dance years but with time comes experience and wisdom. I admire your art greatly.

Jazz can be a difficult genre to win the ESC with.... Italy 2010 was quite good I think that swing jazz would have the widest appearance. Like Roger Cicero Germany 2007.

But jazz as a mainstream genre..... It would need another Fusion thing, I think

Well, we basically don't dance, really. We just stand there very still, wailing wistfully, alowing perhaps for a gentle waving like big lonely vessels. Were I a bit younger and I'd want you to lead me into the sensual jazzy sway. As it is, can't see it as a feasable possibility.

I'd sell one of my grandsons to borrow the turban though :?

I can't say we shall ever see another jazz song come as close to winning as Raphael did in 2011. He had a lot going for him especially the fact that this was Italy's return to the contest after so many years out.

As you say swing or some kind of fusion seems to be the only chance of doing ok. Even then songs with "jazzy" retro vibes don't seem to be fairing too well in the contest for instance "Miss Kiss Kiss Bang" and then Nina Zilli last year didn't do as well as expected. The only song apart from Raphael's that could maybe be considered jazz (although it felt very much like lounge music) was Moldova's "Century of Love" a few years back. "Suus" last year was actually in essence an experimental jazz song. You hear the way Rona sings it sometimes, especially the english version which literally was full on jazz. I often wonder how she would have faired in the contest entering that arrangement of the song instead.

I was in Belgrade Arena in 2008, Geta Burlacu sounded better live than later when I checked on telly!

Moldova is a horrible country in ESC for me, but I liked entry that year - 2008, and next year Nelly Ciobanu, she used real ethno elements!

I'm attempting your style of dance now. It's very spiritual but also melancholy and severe. I worry for my sanity. I'm not strong enough for this art. I'm weak and emotional which is why I choose slow, sensual jazz dance. My cracks as a person, as a human being are allowed to be shown. In jazz, experimentation is welcome. You feel free. It doesn't matter your age or what you wear. Your long black skirt and gold hoop earrings will be perfect. Just put some Billie Holiday music on, stand in front of the mirror, feel the music enter the body and...... sway.

I make my own turbans from old curtains, rugs and bedsheets like the true gypsy that I am.

Gypsies do that here too. They also hang around shopping centres trying to sell you lucky heather wrapped in tinfoil. If you don't buy it they mutter their curses on you. True story. Has happened a few times to me when I have been out.

Why can't I be a true gypsy and not do these things? Esma's a true gypsy and I don't see her stealing wallets when she's on the bus.

Moldova's Century of Love reminds me of Brazil and bossa nova... I dint see ESC in 2008 so I didn't remember that one
But speaking of Moldavia the sunstroke project i 2010, this might be the fusion..... but I think that will be developed into ethno-jazz... (new word) Suus, didn't strike me as jazz experimental. its 4/4 pop with some march elements there is no of beats no improvising among other instruments and the singer is phrasing several bars of a word, she is not scat singing. What do you mean by experimental jazz and Suus

The "Suus" she took to Baku wasn't jazz. The song more than likely started life as a jazz piece though. Rona considers herself an experimental jazz singer and there are a few really weird, quite hard to get into performances of hers on youtube where she's singing what I believe to be Albanian folk songs (I might be wrong) in an experimental jazz style.

This video here is Rona performing "Suus" in english with the jazz arrangement and she's actually.. scatting:lol:

Indeed we are totally different but I actually quite like that. You bring out my eccentricity which is always most enjoyable. Plus together we somehow managed to turn Denmark's thread into a heated debate about gypsies and who out of the pair of us is the truer gypsy. Furthermore in the process you helped me start a very deep and meaningful conversation with i anxi about our passions for dance AND most importantly somewhere in all this I managed to start a conversation about my favourite topic of all time...... Rona Nishliu.

So yeah, it's been a pretty great night. I'm starting to warm to you..... a wee smidgen. Thank you sir.
