Hmm I think that people who like Eurovison like it because of etno-pop and trash- /loli-pop (bubblegumpop)songs just look at the winners

2000: etno - spanish flamingo
2003: etno - oriental (belly-dance)
2004: etno - Russian Sabeldace
2005: etno - Greek folkedace
2007: etno - Balkan Hyme
2009: etno - Norwegian folkedace

2006: trach - Pop/Rock costume festival

2008: euro-pop
2010: euro-pop/swing
2011: euro-pop
2012: euro-dance

So people who wants something new to win should vote
Norway: Electropop, The Netherlands: Waltz, Montenegro or Slovenia: Dub Steep

People who like classic Eurovision songs should vote for:
Denmark, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Iceland, Spain: Etno-pop
Greece: Trash/etno-pop
Romania: Pop-opera
Russia, Cyprus, Israel, Azerbajan, Georgia, Ukraine, UK, Hungary, Belgium, Italy, San Marino, Estonia, Moldova, Sweden, Serbia: Euro-pop
France, Finland, Austria, Lithuraina, Switzerland: Pop/Rock
Albania, Armenia: Rock
Germany, Ireland: Euro-dance
Letland: Trash-pop (get your glitter and shiny costumes on)
Malta: folke-pop

Cassio thats very true. I'm kind of tired of all the pop/dance songs winning though. I'd like something with a bit of ethnic flavour to win again. Something with a bit of colour, spice and energy.

Bulgaria for me would be the perfect winner this year. It's a great kind of energy we've only seen succeed once many years ago in the contest when Ukraine won. I'm tired of Scandinavia winning every single year as i'm sure everyone was tired of when Eastern Europe was on a roll. The sad thing now though is because of Scandinavia's recent success, countries are losing their identity's in the contest and just buying from Sweden etc :|

Again you offend a bit national cultures, folk and ethnic music with calling Bulgaria 2013 and Ukraine 2004 folk and ethnic entries, you can only call them FAKE ethno and FAKE folk entries, cause that is not REAL ethno, I was in a folk dancing club for more than 12 years and participated in several festivals in whole Europe...believe me, in ESC you can't find very good and quality ethnic entries, 99% of them are quasi and fake ethno with no value for me! :)

Ok ill rephrase it then..

I would like an Ethno Pop song with maybe folk elements in it to win this year.

Do you not like it then when folk is mixed with pop music or has modern touches to it? To be honest I think these types of songs work very well at Eurovision and are able to compete with all the western dance and pop thats in Eurovision. I suppose I understand what you are saying though. I have similar quarrels about pop songs being labeled as "Jazz".

Yeah you understood well, f.e. Greece usually send that fake ethno, and I detest these entries.. and no I usually don't like mixture of these genres you have mentioned, cause in 99% they are not well crafted, and sound trashy..so I rather choose quality pop over them in ESC..

I generally find what people think to be quality pop as quite cold and soulless.. like pretty much the vast majority of mainstream, "chart" music today that is churned out of some music making factory where the only thing on the peoples minds making this music is whats "popular" and money. I'd rather listen to something like Samo Shampioni that may not have the highest quality production but what it has is heart and spirit.. and it may be a fusion of pop and folk, ethnic whatever but at least that sense of culture is still there.

Kind of tired of this vague ethno thing going on. We all know what traditional folk songs are, at least in our own countries. I actually don't find them especially exciting. I used to listen a lot to the genre World music which I believe is the usual term. I've only seen ethno mentioned in ESC, but I can be wrong of course. Kind of a holy cow in the forum though, this ethno. :D

Well I understand ethno elements very well, and I can say that "Kismet" was great composition, with REAL ethno elements, while "Samo shampioni" is in Bulgaria exactly what you call mainstream market music, it's really trashy entry with fake ethno elements, and lyrics as football anthem, it's too disgusting for me even to discuss, sorry! :( Maybe you from UK see things different, but me who can understand that language and know a lot about folk music (I love Bulgarian one especially) can't like it at all! :)

I understand. I feel similar to people liking mainstream music from my country. I think about all the beautiful alternative music, the neoclassical artists and folk (we actually have great folk here that you will never hear in the mainstream) and I actually weep just thinking about how tragic things are musically. What music radio stations are paid to play. What people are forced to listen to and all this great, heartfelt music that gets no recognition.

I'm as english as can be so yeah, to me "Samo Shampioni" is quite delicious. I liked "Kismet" as well and "Water".

Uh? Bulgaria's fake? What are you talking about?

Just because it's not an old folk song doesn't mean that's it's not ethno based. It's an adaptation, that's what these people do, they take traditional elements and very creatively, using modern percurssion and other current elements, transform them into something of their own, something new. Of course it's not real folk, and nobody wants it to be, but it can hardly be called fake. People have been doing it all over the world, with more or less talent, and using all kinds of cultures as inspiration.

That has nothing whatsoever to do with dancing folk clubs indeed!

Yeah, I have already said, "Samo Shampioni" is not well mixed and crafted, while their other song which was primary selected "Kismet" is....that is the problem for me, cause I understand ETHNO elements! :)

Belive me....Rainywoods...... no one in Scandinavia knows that we will win The ESC at our NF, we just vote for, what we like the most.
I think thats the issue here, no one in Scandinavia can be blamed for winning only the 100 million voters and the juries are to blame for that.

I don't think that ESC should be some kind of preservation place for local traditional folk music if I like a Etno song (like 2009) I vote for it and if I like another pop song the most i vote for that (2010) Last year Sweden was a beginning of something new. Maybe 2010+2012+ 2013 (Norway or Serbia/Montenegro) will be the sign for a change away from etno.... or maybe it will reflect the Danish NF more...

2009 Modern pop (Brink) song wins over traditional ESC pop (Hera Björk)
2010 traditional pop (Chanee and Nevergren) wins over moden pop (Brian Rice)
2011 Modern pop (A friend in London) wins over Modern pop (Ann Nora)
2012 Traditional pop (Soluna Samay) wins over Mordern pop (Jesper Nordstedt)
2013 Traditional pop (Emmelie de Forest) wins over Mordern pop (Muhamed Ali)

in 2013 Etnopop won over Dance music

I woted for Emmile because it didn't sound like the rest of the entries
In ESC I will vote for the Netherlands in SF 1 because its the one for me who stand out of the rest...

I can see 3 or 4 winners this year some are etno some are pop and some are someting new in the ESC.

I'm sorry but I think that's pure nonsense. Both entries were quite similar really, when all's said and done. What's true for one, must also be true for the other. Never mind the lyrics, which is the thing I can't talk about. Allowing for the fact that this song's may be more simplistic and less meaningful, that alone does not make a tune fake.

Yeah, and I've been singing the Fado at the top of my lungs and wearing the longest black imaginable skirts in my sleep for more than 50. In fact, I'm just putting my huge gold earrings on and letting them shake hard. How about that? Guess that makes me the world's greatest expert too

Wow I hate you. I've only been doing something similar to that for a few months since I discovered Esma. I'm more for wearing headscarfs and doing balkan snake dances around a fire. I'm jealous of your 50 years experience in dance. I've a long way to go.

I have however been slowly swaying from side to side in front of a mirror (twin peaks style) to slow, smokey, melancholy jazz music for more than 22 years. This makes me an expert of jazz music which is why my opinion on the matter is final and the only important one. This is why I allow nothing bad to be said about my two jazz girls Rona and Valentina.

Ahha now I get the Valentina thing..... hope that she next year will take a jazz song to ESC. Does Ralf Sigel compose jazz music??

@ I anixi and RainyWoods

I was in the second largest folk dancing club in Belgrade for more than 12 years, and participated in folk dancing festivals in Belgium, France, Cyprus, Turkey, Bulgaria, Greece, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and of course Serbia and even competing against other countries' dancing groups, from all around the World, but all right, I guess, I don't know anything about that, you are experts! :) :) :)xwave

I wouldn't be so jealous if I were you. My voice is beginning to falter and I'm starting to scare people, especially kiddies, when the high notes crack and my old skirts wave in a dangerous way.
It's so conforting anyway, having such a nice place where we can meet so many expert people and show off share our expertises.
