I would say that :it: chances are depending on the performance as well especially with the official video they have. Remember that :am: had a simular video last year and the decision to have Aram alone on the stage were not that good.

That was one of the factors that made Aram finish on 4th place despite being a high favorite before the ESC-week.

I hope :it: not fall in the same trap since their song is one of the best songs this year, maybe even the best one

I actually don't get the comparison between video and performance. :? When the video has been so important to understand the performance on the stage? Conchita was on a bathtub full of petals, for example. :)

Our videoclip this year is a sort of "homage" to three movies but this has nothing to do with the performance on stage. Then, Aram is a soloist singer, Il Volo are three singers, only with their presence the stage is not empty.

But maybe I don't get what you're trying to say XD

That a video can destroy the chances for a song. :be: 2006 and :fr: 2011 is a great example of that. The videos can sometimes tell the story of a song very well, when those kind of elements don´t appear on the stage in some way, that can be devestating, it sounds nuts but it´s a fact.

Your video was very well done, and I really think that something from it should be in your performance since the story of the song was very well explained in that video

Our video has more than 20 millions of views, so it's a bit weird to take it as an example... but for 99% of Eurovision's videoclip 1 million of views are a miracle before the contest so, actually, I don't think that a video can "destroy" the chances for a song that will be heard once by millions and millions of listeners and viewers who probably have not seen the videoclip before! :)

Then... I must admit that I don't like at all the video of our entry... I find it grotesque, almost a parody, especially in the part of Piero, the boy with glasses... so I can't imagine Gianluca dressed as Spiderman, Ignazio with a clay pot and Piero doing barrel on stage, sorry

I think that Grande amore doesn't need something special on the stage. Music and their voices make everything (like Suus in 2012, for example)

Italy hype didn't start with the video, it started with the Sanremo performance where it was basically just the three of them singing. I think the video was released the day after their first performance when the buzz about them was already rising fast.

And :fr: 2011 didn't fail because they couldn't match the magic of the video. Personally I thought the planned stage performance for it was amazing. The backdrop was breathtaking and it felt very grand and majestic like I thought the song was but unfortunately Amaury himself couldn't match it either physically or vocally and got swallowed up xshrug If only he had been a better performer and could perform the song without changing the tempo :(

Italy with Il Volo doesn't have any of the problems France had with Amaury and if it fails it will be for other reasons

100% agree!!! And about this comparison that I read sometimes: "Grande amore" and "Sognu" are totally two different songs. "Sognu" was a modern bolero, "Grande amore" is a dramatic power ballad. Amaury was actually oriented to the opera, in our trio only Piero has a very "opera voice", Gianluca and Ignazio are pop singers.

Then, unfortunately for France, Amaury Vassili's live vocals were tremendous, a problem that Il Volo never had.

I never said that the hype was because of the video. Just pointing out that a video can make songs fail if the performance in ESC is not great enough

Yep, Stig really needs to sing better now in ESC, otherwise :ee: is likely to be the favorite that flops.

I even want to place :se: on that list, not because of the performance overall but for the choir arrangement, I wonder how they have solved that little problem. I guess we find out on 14th May

Not just that, staging will be crucial in Estonian case IMO. With the right one, they could be the winners. With a bad one it can finish somewhere around 8th or something. Song itself sure has the quality, but they should be really wise with the staging. See how things worked for Netherlands last year. And I definitely dont agree that Italy has the best song, but it will do really well nevertheless. :p

I really like the performance of Eesti Laul (maybe I prefer the final one not the semifinal...), I hope they will do something like that. Many "games" with the camera, the sights, the colours...

Yep, the final one was definitely an improvement compared to the one from semi. :D

This is definitely not any kind of a relevant indicator but posting it anyway in case there's someone interested. Countries ranked by number of posts made in their respective threads:

It's bad when you organize a national final and you get less response than some random internal selection (e.g. Belgium)

None of the hottest favorites are charting on Itunes other than the own country. Sure it's one month to go but still interesting

It´s quite provoking sending a song about peace with the actions going on in :ua: which forced them to withdraw from this years contest, will most people see behind that and vote for the song ? I have no idea. That´s one of the factors that can ruin :ru: winning chances for sure

Sure it is and what started the situation in Ukraine is something I shouldn't start to discuss here on this part of the forum.
However, I am sure that many people mostly it's neighbours with russian heritage, but also a few others, will like the song enough to vote for it. And I also believe that this will be one of the songs that the jury will put high up in their rankings (it should at least, otherwise I would claim that politics would be a reason for it being worse than top 10 in the final).

But last year the ESC-songs got on to Itunes mostly after the semis was held, so I guess it will be the same development this year. It gives us a hint how the televoting went in them.

One thing we know for sure so far is that it wil not be a runaway winner this year (at least not according to Itunes)

Yeah, at this point I definitely dont see anyone winning by a landslide. Then again, it seemed so last year too but didn't reallly end up as a close and exiting race in the final. Things should be much clearer after the semis, and even after the rehearsals too. Pretty sure someone will jump out of the bunch then.

Last year, it really began to strike on Itunes directly after the first semi, expect the same thing this year. If not any werid thing happens, I think :it: and :se: (maybe even :ee: and sadly :ru:) have great chances of finishing in top 5

These 4 are quite safe bets but don't be surprised if someone random who hasn't been mentioned much suddenly becomes a winning candidate after we have seen the performances. :D

I'm counting on that to happen, that's why I only mentioned 4 countries
