Pardon my naiveness, but I don't understand: I watch the map, read the history books, and wonder, what do have all these countries, like Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, Israel, have to do with Europe?
They are all very respectable countries, but they are Asian.
They are Asian by language, by culture, by lifestyles, by religion, by geographical position. They have nothing to do with Europe, except for a pluri-centennial tradition of mutual hostility and religious wars.
I think that the Eurovision contest should stick to the historical, cultural and geographical boundaries of Europe.
This will have the advantage that the program will be shorter and manageable with only two evenings, or perhaps even just one evening.
Nothing against a song festival with Asian countries, but that would be better something like the first 5 songs from Eurovision and the first 5 songs from Asianvision to meet in a single evening, one year in Europe the year after in Asia and so on.
This way we would also be able to freely decide if to send or not European representants to the contest with Asian nations that violate the human rights, without having to disrupt the Eurovision contest for that.

^ First of all - we never violate human rights. On the other points of view I won't answer anything. This stuff was discussed hundred times in a row. We are accepted by EBU and that's why take part in ESC!

A country that is an EBU member has full rights to host and participate in the Eurovision Song Contest. All those countries you mentioned take part in other European competitions despite ESC as well (sport competitions among all), so I don't know why you are against having them in ESC in the first place. Morocco also took part once, and they are an EBU member as well. The countries that are accepted by the EBU are eligible to enter, no matter if you like it or not. Rules are rules, they can't be made to fit everyone's taste and opinion ;)

You forgot Southern Cyprus. anyway, I hate when people talk about this issue. I don't wanna say anything but I wonder why you are against this. It is nice to see people from another countries, see their cultures and see their music tastes. actually, in contrast to your saying, it is a good thing and I don't see any problem. ;) Music is neither history nor map.

It is nice to hear Indian, Chinese, Japanese music as well. So should we have all these nations take part to the European Music contest as well? I'm not saying that there shouldn't be musical exchanges, but I fail to see what is there to call "European" a contest that is obviously not anymore.
With regards to Turkey, it can not be the possession of an island like Cyprus, especially if obtained with a military invasion, to determine if Turkey can be part of Europe or not. It is the history and culture that determine the common ground with other nations, and history has proved over the centuries that our cultures and visions of the world are largely different. I respect the Turkish culture, and the culture of the other Asian nations, but I can not find any common ground with it, I'm sorry.
Having that said, I do not make the rules of Eurovision contest. If they decided that it must be this way, then let it be this way. But I have the right to disagree and express my disagreement.

I really wonder what RAI would have done if Italy actually won this stuff. They said they didn't wanna organize the next contest.
