My parents actually watch ESC every year but obviously don't hear the songs before the actual show. I pressume my mom's favourite will definitely be :il:, considering her all time favourite in ESC is :am: 2008.

i did it with my mom… unexpected choices. I put the snippet eurovision.tv made for final, SF1 and SF2. She said it was hard to judge on a 30sec but that's her results (she loves the "no" and the "no but yes") + she just heard the song without the video and without knowing what was the country :

FINAL
Australia : mmmh.. yes, not good, not bad
Austria : no… i change, i like it
France : no
Italy : no…. i change i like it (again)
Germany : no
UK : no
Spain : yes.. that's not bad

SF1 :
Albania : i like it
Armenia : no
Belarus : no
Belgium : yes, beautiful song
Denmark : I like that too, it's entertaining
Estonia : yes
Finland : *after 2seconds* Hell no, awful song, i hate it
FYR Macedonia : yes… typical eurovision-like song
Georgia : no
Greece : no
Hungary : no, too slow
Moldova : no
Romania : no
Russia : yes
Serbia : i like this too
The Netherlands : yes

SF2
Azerbaijan : yes
Cyprus : no
Czech Republic : No
Iceland : no
Ireland : no
Israel: no
Latvia : no
Lithuania : no
Malta : yes
Montenegro : no
Norway : yes
Poland : yes
Portugal : yes
San Marino : yes (WHAT? MOM?)
Slovenia : yes
Sweden : no, i don't like it
Switzerland : *Bad face* hell no

So my mom doesn't like the big favorite Sweden and likes my last in my ranking : San Marino.

I'm jealous of most of you.

All my mum said was 'I won't be watching it this year... samey songs (she may be partly right there)... this is noisy... this is awful... this is crap...', and she told me to skip Armenia altogether (that I agree on). She didn't mind Estonia and Italy but that's about it.

So last saturday, me, my mom and my little brother did our annual Eurovision-listening! :D I think they both find this year okay, not as good as last year, but with a good 2nd semi things improved greatly they said. All three of us gave points to all songs 0-5 (halfs were allowed) and we got out own result.

The countries with numbers in bold were our qualifiers (order of our own points is me, brother, mom)

SEMI 1:
:md: 6 (2, 2, 2)
:am: 6 (2, 2, 2)
:be: 9 (5, 1, 3)
:nl: 3 (1, 1, 1)
:fi: 4 (2, 1, 1)
:gr: 2 (2, 0, 0)
:ee: 10 (4, 3, 3)
:mk: 5 (2, 1,5, 1,5)
:rs: 7 (2, 2, 3)
:hu: 3 (3, 0, 0)
:by: 4 (2, 2, 0)
:ru: 12 (4, 4, 4)
:dk: 0 (0, 0, 0)
:al: 6,5 (4, 1,5, 1)
:ro: 10 (3, 3, 4)
:ge: 6,5 (4, 2,5, 0)

SEMI 2:
:lt: 3 (2, 0, 1)
:ie: 10 (4, 4, 2)
:sm: 3 (0, 1, 2)
:me: 4,5 (2,5, 2, 0)
:mt: 7 (2,5, 1,5, 3)
 8,5 (3, 1,5, 4)
:pt: 4,5 (1, 0,5, 3)
:cz: 10,5 (3,5, 3, 4)
:il: 5,5 (3, 2,5, 0)
:lv: 9 (5, 1, 3)
:az: 11 (4, 3, 4)
:is: 6,5 (1, 2,5, 3)
:se: 12,5 (4, 4,5, 4)
:ch: 5 (1, 2, 2)
:cy: 8,5 (4, 1,5, 3)
:sl: 11,5 (4, 3,5, 4)
:pl: 6 (1, 1, 4)

Finalists:
:au: 12,5 (2,5, 5, 5)
:at: 8 (4, 0, 4)
:fr: 7,5 (1,5, 2, 4)
:de: 5 (2, 1, 2)
:it: 11,5 (4, 3,5, 4)
:es: 6 (3, 1, 2)
:uk: 4 (0, 4, 0)

So our total top 10 were:
:au: 12,5 (2,5, 5, 5)
:se: 12,5 (4, 4,5, 4)
:ru: 12 (4, 4, 4)
:sl: 11,5 (4, 3,5, 4)
:it: 11,5 (4, 3,5, 4)
:az: 11 (4, 3, 4)
:cz: 10,5 (3,5, 3, 4)
:ie: 10 (4, 4, 2)
:ee: 10 (4, 3, 3)
:ro: 10 (3, 3, 4)

This result may change in coming weeks, since we will play some more the next time I get home, but this is what they felt on the first listen! ;)

So on the question on this thread, what is my mums faves...
Well she did enjoy quite many songs in the end, the songs, giving four points to :ru: :ro:  :cz: :az: :se: :pl: :at: :fr: :it:, but it was one clear winner for both my mom and my brother...and it is :au: (you should have seen my face when they said they were giving it 5...I was shocked literally )

I am having a survey to non fan eurovision listeners about this year's songs.
They are just casual voters, and i trust their opinion.
When the results are ready, i can tell you, if you want.

Ok :)
When the results will be ready, i will share them here.
Every year i do this survey, but with less people.
This year i tried to persuade as many as possible. (Having in mind it's not that easy to make a non eurovision fan sit down and listen 40 songs :D )

Great :)
I know right, be strong, it's a pain to get people interested in reviewing a whole Eurovision edition. ;) Invite them to play little "game"

I ask them if "it would be too difficult to make a favor for me". :D

Schlagerman1 Omg jealous. As if you can get your mum and brother to do that. Wish mine would.

i would also be interested in reading those results. :D I think they're more reliable then the opinions of fans.

We must be siblings.

 Yes, we must be. xlove My mum wrote off all songs as rubbish before she had even listened to them.

I'm still waiting for the right moment to show all the songs to my mum  She has to be in a good mood for that otherwise she'll be annoyed after 5 songs.
For now she listened to :de: :nl: & :se: (mostly because I listen to them all the time in my car  ) and she also loves all of them.

I'd like to organize some sort of preview night for my friends but they just won't care... they'll end up criticizing everything and say 'see, our entry is indeed the best'.

I need some new friends.

My family has a whatsapp group, as we all live in different cities, and lately we've been discussing Eurovision songs. My mum loves Norway most. My brother and my sister haven't decided yet. My dad is ususally not interested in ESC. :D

Update... I was playing Australia and my ever-nagging mum barged in and told me 'this is what Eurovision needs not the old usual ballads'.

She may be right at the end.

So now she officially likes Estonia and Australia.

I made my sister watch the recaps available on Eurovision.tv's YouTube channel, she really liked :is: and :nl:. She usually likes :se: entries, but she said Måns's song is too predictable.

As for my mom, I can see her liking :dk:, that's her style of songs.

Unfortunately, the only two things my mother keeps watching (almost obsessively) on TV are murder mysteries and cooking shows. Since neither Agatha Christie nor Gordon Ramsay are competing, I doubt she will be interested in watching Eurovision. However, the  music video strangely links together both of her favourite genres, so maybe there is some chance... :)

But I am almost sure what would my grandmother like - :it: and :sm:, without any doubt. Despite the fact that one of them is seen as a favourite and the other one as a sure non-qualifier, these two songs have actually something in common. Both of them sound like something what could have been writen for my grandmother´s life-long favourite Karel Gott in the 1970s and both are sung by harmless-looking, aseptical, idealized, out-of-this-world young people, which is very 1970s too.
