Time to wheel out the usual suspects - Steps. They should ask S Club/Rachel Stevens or Sugababes.
If not, they can always ask Mans to compete for them, since it will be in Sweden next year. Get that Swedish votes locked in.

Seeing TaP music drop out of next year is a real shame, although they were only meant to be around for the Turin selection, and only stayed for one more year because of the hosting. Although, with how they selected for JESC (Freya to represent us in ESC one year please!) and won public vote/did well in Jury, I'm hoping the BBC have actually learnt something from TaP/how they did it for JESC and select something decent. I'm nervous, not gonna lie, and I hope we take a step forward with this.

As for the Rina stuff, so it was all true then (and I'd imagine she was keen?). It's incredibly frustrating how close it was to having her for this year-she would have tore the stage up. I love Mae, IWAS is great and no hate towards her at all but in terms of performing live, Rina, imo, would have been something else. Please, BBC, throw money at her and take her to Sweden next year.

^^ I saw their post on FB - they even posted a pic with the British flag and asking for BBC to finally "noticing them".
Good luck, such band would be something completely different for the UK, for sure!

It sounds to me that TaP music only intended to be involved for one year but of course agreed the following year because the UK became hosts, however the motivation over Eurovision wasn't the same and they became lazy in picking the UK entry the second time.

BBC, just pick someone who can sing, play an instrument, and has charisma. And then go from there in finding a great song.

I suppose the stuff with Rina confirms how she was acting towards the start of the year and the heavy hints she was dropping about doing it. Maybe she thought she was, so did that as a tease. Only to have taken too long to get back to them. Goodness, imagine if she did the teases thinking she was doing it only to later realise she hadn't sent the email confirming it after all!

That would make huge sense tbh

It would also explain why BBC's studios in Salford had posters of Rina hanging up with all their other stars despite not really having ever done anything with the BBC prior to or since then. And would explain why one of their presenters was wearing a very similar outfit to Rina in said poster during a show. Additionally, I felt that the 'leaked' song that people speculated might be her Eurovision song seemed to (at least on a subtextual level) be about the war in Ukraine. And might explain all the hype around that announcement that ended up just being revealed that the tickets were on sale.

Maybe from the BBC and Rina's POV she was a done deal. So both sides started to drop hints it would be her, with the big reveal supposed to be on the day tickets are available but then nothing came from it due to her/her people not getting back them in time. 'I Wrote A Song' wasn't intended for Eurovision, and the artwork for the single doesn't/didn't feature any Eurovision branding, unlike the past few UK entries have. Which at the time led me to believe it wasn't going to be her.

So now the question is "Would she still do it even after all of this?". Because she would make a fine choice for '24. It would help prove that Sam wasn't a one-off if she did.

The day UK sends a Hatari style group will be the day that I stop overrating every single Albanian female vocalist who has entered Eurovision

Fair points, looking back at it, those Easter eggs/teases would make 100% sense. Along with Rina dropping hints and little teases and such.

I really really hope she would still consider it though, she would be absolutely electric. But then again, if they ghosted her completely, it might make her think, 'hmmmm'. You're right, the BBC need to ask her, throw all the money at her and take her in the next couple of years, and prove Sam wasn't our Schulte moment, and more our Anouk moment, a turning point.

It would be absolutely fantastic to see a Hatari style group with a very good song representing the UK. It would be a dream.

I agreed with every single word of this. Great read. The post-ESC commercial success needs to be acknowledged by the record companies, but ultimately it's down to the BBC team that will head the 2024 delegation to decide how they want to run things going forward.

This is definitely going to be a nervy period of anticipation for all UK fans for sure. :(

It really comes down to what the BBC want for the UK in 2024. If they want to prove that '22 wasn't a fluke then they might be daring and take a gamble (or what they think is one at least) so they can get back to a decent position. If they just wanted '22 and '23 to take some heat off of them from the public (and some political figures) then I can see them soft balling it.

And in either case, the question then is "How are they going to select the act?". Are they going to go internal again? Work with another record company? Do an NF? And if they do an NF is it going to be their typical random one night in late February or are they going to try and do something a little closer to Benidorm Fest or Melfest?
