The gears is running once again.

UK fans speculating if Olly will carry the Union Jack for failure again or do a rare Sam Ryder-Style One-hit wonder.

Also in either case the British do the regular EU-Bashing comedy as an excuse.

Whatever the outcome the Britsh section of Euro fandom will remain among the most passionate for simply keeping the fire alive.

Olly is definitely not a one-hit wonder in the UK. (Years & Years was a one-man band in the project's later years.) However, the question is whether or not he will be a hit in the rest of Europe.

Years and Years has been going for almost 15 years. Olly got a UK #1 album on his own under the Years and Years name last year. Far from a one hit wonder!

P.s Sam isn’t a one hit wonder either… his Christmas song is currently on course to be our Christmas #1!

I think you've both misunderstood the previous person's point... The way I read it, they were speculating whether Olly would return to the traditional UK bottom of the board failure that we've become accustomed to or whether he'll be a success in the contest, achieving that rarest of feats most recently achieved by Sam Ryder... Kinda insinuating that UK's success in 2022 might have been a one-off.

But it's all too early to know whether any of that is true. All we can do is speculate. And I sincerely hope that Olly really blows as all away with a mesmerising song and a presentation to match xheat

Is this going to be the gayest british eurovision song ever? Will Flying the Flag finally be dethroned

As a fully fledged homosexual I really hope we get a good song, not just a camp cliche mess.

We all love a camp cliche mess, but please give us a serious, good music production worthy of winning the competition for being actually decent. :ROFLMAO:

Turns out he's a huge antisemite

Let's not play the criticism of Israel is inherently antisemitic game, I don't agree with the central claim of the thing olly signed as Israel isn't an apartheid state their are ethnic Arabs in their courts and Parliament

Israels conduct has obviously overstepped what is internationally acceptable several times and calling out some of the actions of the state of israel is not antisemitism but I personally feel the statement olly signed off on is a bit dodgy and one-sided

I have been on record of not wanting Israel in eurovision because they aren't European (same for Australia/Caucas Nations/Kazakhstan) so I am not a neutral actor in the Israeli eurovision participation debate

We can debate the conflict in a civil manner (and that has generally happened on this forum) but we don't need to label people being critical of the Israeli state as being inherently antisemitic

I don't think that anyone is.

Assuming that Olly is allowed to go ahead and represent the UK, it would be interesting to see if he, in the name of diplomacy, at least tries to get along with the Israeli representative.

Where has he condemned Hamas? You absolutely can be critical of Israel all you want but he took it a step further an called the whole country basically an apartheid regime.

I wonder how the 290k British Jews feel today with that statement. Don't forget the BBC still refuses to call Hamas a terrorist group.

I was merely declaring my own bias felt that was important to do

The right wing tabloid media are already going to be warming up the printers to drag Olly & the BBC through the mud like they tried to with Mae.

It didn't even take a week. Just not about him being a Corbyn fan.

Oh well. He can have his views on the Israel/Hamas situation in his personal capacity. I just hope he and other artists (and fans plus media) will not hijack this contest with this matter.

And I don't think any artist or person in the public eye that values their future career should ever try to use such a massive event as a platform to preach their personal agenda.

Having said this, I have no doubt that would ever be something Olly is planning to do. This reeks of the usual toxic UK media vitriol that they try to bring into the contest in an attempt to (dare I say it) give a platform to spout forth with own views and agenda on the matter.

Not today, Satan, I say - don't attempt bring us down to your level...

Its not even the media I hate the daily mail they didn't instigate this its reporting on various Jewish organisations and activism calling out ollys stance on the conflict and the statement he signed off on

He will of course get shit from the British media but they haven't made this up this is coming from some Jewish organisations but no not all Jews are pro Israel and they should be separated in discussions
