I have posted elsewhere that I find it awfully bizarre that so many LGBT+ people are supporting Palestine when they wouldn't fare very well over there themselves... but regardless of my own views on the political situation, is it not against the rules to indirectly try and intimidate a broadcaster into changing their act? Or to try to influence/sway a decision of another country? I know one embassy is very low down a government's pecking order... but the buck stops somewhere, right?

Well, I guess it's time to leave this thread for now. Someone holler when we have some more news on the entry - till then I'm out... xwave
You can't run away from the issue, Israels participation is going to overshadow the entire contest and will absolutely result in issues in malmo given the city's demographics, it is just the reality of the situation

I'm not running away from any such issue thanks, I just don't want to be around months of political debate in this thread either, so I'm leaving for now. Enjoy the chat all.

Oh well, it's not like the UK Israeli embassy has a connection to EBU or anything. The UK Israeli embassy has every right for them to voice their displeasure about Olly's representation on the issue (just like Olly is entitled to his views) and I don't think their tweet is calling out for Olly to be dropped.

Anyway, this will blow over as long as BBC and Olly don't react. *fingers crossed*

Tumblr, mostly.
That tweet is so fucking gross. What are they implying? "Be grateful we don't kill your kind as well, now shut the fuck up"? Absolutely disgusting.
It's an embarrassing temper tantrum. He's entitled to his opinion, let him.

Israeli embassies had better not interfere with Eurovision selection procedures. Should they try to do so, they better leave. Indefinitely.

No idea who Olly Alexander is but I just noticed on Wikipedia his song is produced by Danny L Harle (of PC Music fame), so this is going to be a banger!

That’s a veeeery far fetched interpretation at best. There are far more obvious ways to read that. Just three other possibilitues:

„Think about who you show solidarity with because those you are supporting right now would not do the same for you“

„Try to see both sides, not only the one you are obviously influenced by through the tik-tok-bubble you‘re in“

„Actually, when it comes to minorities as the one you‘re belonging to, we‘re on your side whereas others are not.“

Where you see a death threat in this, I honestly cannot follow. Also a demand for cancellation (as others here have suggested) is not deduceable from this.

Without knowing the song? Wow. Or is it because of his statement? In this case, he has the right to express his opinion.

Well, if you didn´t like past songs of a specific artist and it´s clear his entry will be in the same style then it´s highly likely you´ll don´t like his song as well.

Or would you be enthusiastic about Helene Fischer for :de:?? ;)

So, in other words, "Either you support the Jewish people or you support the LGBT+ community."

Why can't I support both? 😕
Girl it was a joke. See the above post where I also joke about calling people homophobes for not voting for Olly

Also who tf mentioned Jews?

Got it, but don't call me girl. As my unambiguously masculine username indicates, I am a male.

Oh well. He can have his views on the Israel/Hamas situation in his personal capacity.
The BBC agrees.

The BBC did the right thing here. For me Olly is entitled to his opinion but that doesn't mean I agree with what he believes. He's a popstar and as long as he can entertain me and does well at Eurovision then I'm happy with that.
He's not a politician but he does need to learn to be more diplomatic now that he's representing his country at Eurovision.
