The latest eurovision cast (around 30 minutes in) spoke to Ben Mawson and he elaborated on the selection process of Mae.

-They weren't certain if they'd be involved again but decided they would be - hopefully they will be next year.
-There was 5 artists in the running, including Mae.
-They also had a specific song but it didn't particularly fit with any singers. Then Mae had just recorded IWAS.
-They played the song to many people in the industry & outside of it beforehand (including Lana Del Rey) to get their opinion on the song.
-They wanted to go in another direction from last year and thought tapping into the female pop scene would be a good direction.

Might be worth a listen if you're interested in all the details.
Interesting, thanks for sharing. I'm not a fan of the fact that their approach was to have a song written then find an artist to give it to. I got the impression from last year that it was more organic, finding someone who had written a song not with Eurovision in mind who they'd approach with the proposal that they submit it for consideration for eurovision -which is pretty much what did end up happening!

Well, I hope that whatever happens this year TaP and the BBC continue to work together. I don't trust the BBC to get this right on their own and I still worry we are only a contest or two away from going back to X-Factor rejects and acts that haven't been musically relevant since the Punic Wars.

Everyone who references the Punic Wars has a special place in my heart.

I can’t help but feel defensive of 2014 because I was a part of the UK’s iconic postcard that year

you wasn't the one who looked up when Molly took the picture and ruined the sea of blue was you?

A good, basic, radio pop song. That's what I can say of this - not bad... A quite good continuation from the last year! xup

No but someone kept getting told off for doing it if I remember rightly

Molly was super sweet and met every single one of us on set that day!

The more I'm counting days the more I'm confident with Mae's song.
