Ugh, Mimi has that horrible Indie girl inflection to her voice. No thanks.

Breakdown incoming... I feel like we're so close to the drama xheat

I probably shouldn't sound ungrateful, a year ago we'd laugh at the thought of Mimi even being a possibility and if she's chosen I think she'd probably be a good choice. I'm personally not super into her songs and I dislike her voice quite a lot.

Birdy's new songs doesn't excite me like she used to. She leaned into this plodding slow-folk music that fades into the backgroud of our experiences. If anything could come from her it might sound like Bonnie Tyler's entry in 2013.

And of course, Rina excites me.

Honestly all the wait and all this hype and trying to outsmart us is beginning to tire me. It's too much.
This better be good...

I don’t think it’s wishful thinking for me anymore. It has to be Rina, if she’s really free and wants it. I just can’t think the BBC would pick Freya, Birdy, Mimi or any of the other speculated names with her right there and willing. Not this year with the bigger occasion as host, the usual stigma abolished, with intent being to win and the freedom to choose an even more ideal candidate than ever. Her status as an LGBT icon and the face of multicultural Britain obviously make her more of a preferred choice than the others, and not to undersell them but it just makes more sense to pick someone who’s on the brink of becoming a household name, fresh off a new album and world tour, whose music lends itself to a massive audience and is much more of a high-energy, crowd-pleaser than something more left field or subdued that might be difficult for everyone to connect with.

It just feels like it’s too much of a timely coincidence for it not to not be her and I can’t think she would be deliberately pandering to us obsessive fans again and again if it wasn’t, as that’d not only be cruel on only us given how long the speculation has been drawn out but she must be aware the meltdown that would ensue would be damaging if it ends up being someone else.

They’re clearly just planning something special to announce it which makes me think it could be a video for one of the Hold the Girl songs or possibly a new, unreleased song that she’s had in the pipeline. Hopefully the latter. I’m ready to be dead wrong but it just seems like the logical choice to me, again, if she really is free and willing.

100% agree. If she is genuine in her interest they would be crazy not to pick her. I like the other artists and songs that have been floated around but they would not do as well at Eurovision. As mentioned in a previous post I'm also getting fed up with this speculation. At least announce the artist and tease the song for a later date if they really want to draw this out. They have had more than enough time to gauge public reaction.

Honestly, I feel we are beyond the "Gauging public reaction" stage. When Norton was interviewed on the 28th of February he mentioned that he might have accidentally been told who the act is. So at this point, the act has been selected and most likely told. So anything from this point on feels self-indulgent in my opinion. Though to be fair I didn't like the stealth reveal thing last year. And the fact it feels like we are getting that this time again just doesn't sit well for me.

I'm fine with the announcement of the announcement of the announcement strategy. It is silly but at least we know where we stand with it.

The full version of the Birdy song is available and it’s absolutely beautiful, haunting and powerful. It could easily be top 5 if it’s the UK song. The only problem is it’s 4 minutes long.

I don’t know if the intention is to gauge the public reaction with several names in the mix, perhaps it was initially to help make a decision but the longer it goes on the more it seems to be an intentional PR campaign strategy to keep the anticipation going for Rina. It’s working.

I feel sorry for the chosen act if it’s not Rina; there’s going to be a lot of backlash and it’s not really fair. If it’s not Rina, then TaP and the BBC have let this spiral way out of control
The fact Rina herself is the one addressing it though, when she doesn’t need to ride any waves for extra publicity and will be aware of that potential backlash for trolling us all for weeks, would indicate it is her.

I feel it might have been. Intentionally or not. I still feel that Rina might have been teasing her involvement in the way she did as a way in saying "Look, I have this many people excited about me doing it, so you should pick me". Plus I think that TaP would have taken hype into consideration to a degree with who they selected. It might not have been enough to stop an act from getting it, but it might have helped. But hey, at this point who knows? I am still trapped in the "It'll be someone off the X-Factor" mindset.

Definitely possible, especially if there was a shortlist as reported. I just refuse to believe the BBC would pass her over in favour of someone else though given she’s the ideal candidate and the evidence has been pretty solid and consistent.
