If they had selected Birdy and that song in particular, I think they would've made sure to debut it in its 3 minute format. So, I don't think it's her or at least that song.
I think we keep an ear out if it's got a radio edit tomorrow, that's what tipped the balance for Sam when Space Man appeared in a 3 min form. It sounds from people who've heard it that it's difficult to cut so let's see.

Think we'll get an announcement of an announcement this weekend now tickets are out of the way.

You say that like Space Man didnt debut as a 3:37 length song
It did but if anyone is able to listen to the song on YouTube with a VPN or Spotify, if available, I would like to know where you would start removing bits. It’s not your typical structured pop song and it would ruin it if you started cutting it down.

Having listened to it, I tend to agree, I think you'd probably cut the second verse and chorus to get it to time and it wouldn't lose too much but its not ideal.

It's beautifully produced though, would the be highest quality entry the UK has sent in forever if they could get it down.

I did that on the Splice app and it loses something. It’s Birdy, anyway, her career is long and she’s written 5 albums. There must be a shorter one that’s Kate Bush style.

Just heard it too. Like it a lot and it’d be a very strong entry but I think it sounds too left field and understated with the opportunities we have on offer. It seems to be lacking a particular climax? I’m sure they could cut it down to 3 minutes if push came to shove. It just doesn’t sound like the big, anthemic song that they would be more likely to go with this year.

Honestly, I feel we are beyond the "Gauging public reaction" stage. When Norton was interviewed on the 28th of February he mentioned that he might have accidentally been told who the act is. So at this point, the act has been selected and most likely told. So anything from this point on feels self-indulgent in my opinion. Though to be fair I didn't like the stealth reveal thing last year. And the fact it feels like we are getting that this time again just doesn't sit well for me.

I'm fine with the announcement of the announcement of the announcement strategy. It is silly but at least we know where we stand with it.

Just to note Lee Smithurst said we weren't getting stealth announcements done via dropping a "new song" on the radio anymore as he said it wouldn't work.

Hence why I think Rina is the clear frontrunner to me, even despite how good the Birdy song leak sounds, because if there was a TaP strategy in play in 2023 it was Rina and only Rina.

I feel sorry for the chosen act if it’s not Rina; there’s going to be a lot of backlash and it’s not really fair. If it’s not Rina, then TaP and the BBC have let this spiral way out of control

Do we really need this take for the millionth time? It's already been discussed to death at this point that the Rina stuff has to be intentional, TaP aren't rank amateurs who would have ignored the Rina hype, they absolutely would have squashed it by now or pushed their actual choice harder - plus Rina herself would get a negative backlash for the trolling, and we're her target demographic ffs. That 'trolling' aids nobody unless it's an intentional strategy.

I've heard it.

It's going to be near impossible to cut. It's not a song with a simplistic structure, it's a stunning ballad with a long 4 minute build, a long intro, a long bridge. You start cutting bits out and it starts to resemble a different song entirely and not this song which I must admit would have winner potential if it wasn't as long as it was.

It's a 4 minute song ffs, you cut it down to 3 and it genuinely does become a different song, not a radio edit.

I've just heard Raincatchers in full too and i don't think it's competitive enough for ESC. I really love the start of the song but then the melody becomes too "linear". In the end i find it quite boring and i prefer her previous songs. It can get a good jury result with good staging i think but i don't see the televote going big for this. Now i just hope it's Rina or Mimi Webb. Both have incredible music and could bring another great result for the UK.

I heard Raincatchers in full just now and it's nice (the snippets really didn't do it justice) but it's not the type of song we should send off the back of coming 2nd. We need a winner; this isn't it

I've heard "Raincatchers", I still don't think it's Birdy but if it is I would be over the moon with this song.
The first 30 seconds are just *chef's kiss*, I can see juries straight away saying yes this is my 12 points. However televoters I'm not so sure, unless we get a Salvador Sobral appreciation vibe this year.

EDIT: Preview of the music video

i dont think raincatchers would be a good eurovision entry tbh, it's an ok song but it doesn't really emote me in any way at first listen - and i really like her stuff, she can do magic (her rendition of "walking in the air" is stunningly beautiful eg)

Raincatchers is quality stuff & would be vying for top 5. Sadly, pretty sure it's not Birdy with this track.
