Someone mentioned this article in a tweet - it's mostly more of the same, but the thing I found funny was the countries they mention at the end. It already tries to be this culturally superior reference to some "random Eastern countries" that an average Brit doesn't know much about, but it just underlines the ignorance considering Bosnia hasn't taken part for years and it's North Macedonia now.

wow you guys have a good one! the united kingdom! a good one! and it didn't take lucie jones single handedly saving it live by the medium of theater face!

i like that it doesn't desperately try to sound like an eurovision winner but it still presents enough eurovisionness on its own to maybe just work. james has a nice voice and can probably sell this live easily. and with the identity of BBC these last four years being that they give good staging that is (except for lucie) unable to save absolutely nondescript songs, he might get some good staging and, GASP, get some televotes for a damn change. the times are a-changing for the uk, maybe?

7 points, 6 for the song and 1 more to reward unprecedented effort. you go, glenn coco.

4 pts. It's neither a typical BBC disaster of epic proportions (thank gawd xbow ) nor something interesting & new to me.

Not only the UK btw. I've just found out on the German official site that speaking Ukrainian was degraded to being political

And we go round in a circle again. Negativity, potential last place and sense of hopelessness. I after 8 years of being a Eurovision fan finally have the urge to say I give up. I won't follow this contest anymore, since I can never get behind my entry nor song. What's the point?

I hope Boris Johnson defunds the BBC now!

You're acting as if the BBC just plated up a song writing camp Laurell Baker/random Swede number with an average production and cheap video. This is anything but that, yeah its laid back and not to everyones taste but you must be blind or refusing to admit it if you cant see the stark improvement and effort they've put in. The video for start is better than our previous ones, the production is better and he wrote it himself. We've been telling the BBC to let people write their own stuff and they've finally done it. Its not the banger we all wanted, but who realistically expected that? Its a good song, not a winner by any means but it is good.

Well it´s not a train wreck, I´d say ... but for my taste the song is too bland and middle-of-the-road. I`ll give it 4 points for now.

I am really staggered by people saying this could come last when we still don't know all the other acts that are taking place nor can we really guess how the songs will go down on the night!

I mean sure, I don't think the song will win in the end but for goodness sake give it a chance. Personally having listened to a number of the tracks this year I've yet to hear one I think will defiantly win, Its a very open contest and I'd hate to use a cliche but anything could happen.

Serhat got to the finals last year! So lets enjoy the moment for now and see how it turns out and just be happy that it isn't as bad as it really could have been. Remember where we were in 2010! As middle of the road as this might end up being in the end, its not that bad.

Yeah, I think this could be the major problem for the song. It´s not a disaster, but simply not memorable enough to pick up the phone and vote for it. xbored

I get your frustration, but try thinking about it this way: at least you do better every year than the countries that didn't qualify. Some of us can only dream of last place.

This is all so true. They've done what we've been asking them to do for so long. I think some people are unhappy because of the style of music, which is fine and understandable. It's not my thing at all. So very far from it. When you look at it more objectively though, you can notice all of the improvements. The songwriting. The production. The organic mix of singer and song that comes with him having wrote it himself. All positive things.

I feel like My Last Breath could potentially be one of those songs where fans are like "meh whatever" but then goes on to do very nicely at the contest. It's got an authenticity that our entries usually lack, and that's something that should be rewarded at the contest. I've been a horrifically harsh critic of what we've been doing at the contest. Our songs have been bottom of my rankings for years on end, even when we've had somewhat lukewarm fan pleasing stuff like Never Give Up On You. This might not be the banger we wanted or the megastar we dream of proudly sharing with Europe, by goodness.. just go back and look and what we've been sending. I think this is our turning point.

For me 7 points. The UK song is pleasant and much better structured than many other songs.

I change my score. It's nice but has zero wow-factor. The UK is walking in it's own footsteps: sending cute and lowkey charming entries which struggle to have that it-factor which makes people pick up their phones and vote. I really don't see this translating well on stage, and I hope I'm going to have to eat my own words in May because I love the UK and I dream of having them win again.

Perhaps this could get top 10 from the jury if the UK is lucky but I suspect bottom 5 in televote.

Im between 7 and 8..further will depend on the live performance, I like the message, it is a bit cold to me (not because snowy video lol) thus I preffered last year UK, it was warm and warm color of voice.. :)
But yes I put a :8: in the poll..

Noah fence but that is very Brexit-minded of you, as if Eurovision is just something you should gain by from your own country competing. If you don't care about other entries other than your own, Eurovision isn't really the competition for you to watch. A true Eurovision fan should be able to watch a show in which their own country isn't competing and still be nearly as enthusiastic

If this was all just about my own country, I wouldn't be here. In the previous decade I appreciated Blue, liked Bonnie (though was very disappointed by the song), found Engelbert pleasant and that was it. It is frustrating when you're not happy with the direction your home country takes, but being a Eurovision fan is so much more than just being able to get behind your own entries.

I never thought I'd see the day i'd be defending our entry. it's not so much to my taste, although I do enjoy it. I can recognise the positives. It probably is a matter of people wanting something else but if i'm being honest I do believe with some there is a level of hating on the UK because it's fashionable, but only with a few so don't @ me pls. I said in a previous post but there is comparisons to Austria 2018 people have made and iirc that was pretty much under the radar also until May. The authenticity and the fact he wrote it himself is the biggest selling point for me, as it's something the BBC has horribly neglected in the past with our entries looking so anonymous and with 0 connection to the singer. I hope it is a turning point for the future, it is for this year at least, but the BBC has a rich history of ditching their format for entry selection year in year out, so who knows. I look forward to see what they will do with this in May.
