So basically they're the type of act the BBC should look for if I am honest

Agreed. Sending has been/celeb singers is the wrong path. We should be promoting new talent; its so hard to get into the british music market, even for british singers.

Chas and Dave? Oh yes!! Sadly I am sure these are all acts the BBC would actually think are credible, I firmly believe the BBC need to either bow out from the contest and pass it onto Channel 4 or stop with the 100 year old fuddy duddy's running it internally.
If Channel 4 got it we would have my Big Fat Gypsy Eurovision :D

They'd probably inflict it on Ireland

Lol, we wouldn't get any points from Ireland if we chose them. Because they will think we are taking the piss. xrofl3 Even Ireland isn't shocking enough to send them, although they did send Jedward twice...

Is there really such a thing? That sounds weird. Why not young singers?

Thats what british fans have been saying, we want younger singers (those who could do with a break) we should find new talent not try with has beens who have already had the height of their career. But the BBC are stubborn Mugs and don't give a flying F*** what people want. They will continue to send oldies, at least next year they will.

The BBC has an audience that skews older than the likes of other channels such as ITV here, therefore it makes program content with that in mind. The stupid thing is Eurovision is one of BBC's shows that actually skews young along with The Apprentice and The Voice for the first half of the year.

It's like the BBC is trying to add yet another ESC stereotype to the british audience: Only old washed up singers participate in this competition!

Well that sterotype has been going around for a long time. I would say the last few years is more 'Didn't think they were still alive?' stereotype. :)

I still think that Florrie would be the perfect choice: gifted, rising star, still not big enough to snub Eurovision, her career would benefit from pan-european audience. And she would stand out from the crowd. Come on, BBC! xcheer

pass it onto Channel 4

Channel 4 just aired a program about a group of people shagging in a box in front of a live audience and then making them tell us all about it, I rather channel 4 stay well away from Eurovision

People push channel 4 but the person in charge at channel 4 at the moment was in charge of BBC One when we had the likes of Scooch, Daz and Andy.

I think people just want to see some form of development or shift in the way the contest is treated. Not only is the BBC's selection usually ****, but it's also getting boring for the UK fan's. I think it's got to that ridiculous point now where not only do fans expect a **** decision, but even if a good decision was internally selected... most people will now have their backs turned the other way and not notice.

It would be nice to inject some life into the UK participation, the sad thing is fans are starting not to care how.

Well when fans stop caring, sooner or later they will also stop watching; and when viewing figures begin to drop very low then the BBC will have to make a change. Although what brings in the viewing numbers is that they advertise the hell out of it. Several adverts a day in the weeks leading up, and making it to national tea time news etc.

The difference from the BBC and the likes of Denmark couldn't be more different.

DMGP has announced today 872 entries have been put forward this year, breaking last years record of 692.

So Denmark get to select from a massive range of songs and no doubt once again will have a challenger for the title.

The BBC will have three of four people select anyone who will go.

The only answer is for the BBC to launch some form of competition where people can submit songs.

However the fact once again the headlines are about countries cheating gives the BBC a get out clause. They will say why bother its all fixed anyway and that covers up their failings.

I must say though I thought the coverage this year was much better. The presenters treated the artists with respect and quite good knowledge so maybe things might improve.

If the BBC need a get-out clause, why even bother. It's ridiculous, either back the brand or don't bother.

Its a get out clause for the BBC to not bother trying or working hard. Its the cheapest Saturday evening entertainment of the year for the BBC .If the UK public think ESC is fixed and we will never do well it lets the BBC of the hook for doing very little to improve things. The BBC like the fact the British public think ESC is fixed as it really does cover up their massive failings.

The UK public have no idea of the selection shows in other countries mostly and would get quite a shock if they saw how good many of them were.

The UK is full of talent, many artists struggling to get noticed and a melody gran prix event would be a great idea.

If the BBC is going to select then stop sending stars from decades past and instead send modern artists from different genres. The UK has a great folk scene,,why not send a top class folk singer,?.Something different.

Maybe Kate Rusby?,,
