LOL it is dreadful that's why I posted it. The BBC get something young and in a popular genre but then it ends up being dire :D

Lol it is bad. But you put out a good point. BBC just don't care anymore, they will only start trying again when viewing figures are very low, which wont be anytime soon. Despite our bad record recently (apart from 09 and 11) people still like watching it. :D

I want the BBC to adapt RTE’s “The Hit and make it our national final. The changes I’d make are this;

10 songs are chosen and the internally selected artist meets with the songwriters.

5 songs are performed on the NF night,The backstory behind the two competing songwriters and their inspiration plays to give the artist a short rest between each song. Then the camera shows them for the first few bars of the song, to see them react to their song being chosen and the other persons not being chosen.

The public then selects 2 songs to be released for download.

The highest charting song wins the right to be performed at esc.

The week before ESC a documentary following the artist and songwriter leading up to the contest should air, so that the public can keep up to date on what’s happening and see the reactions of the chart positions.

I think this option gets the best of both worlds, the BBC can opt for a big name which brings in the viewers for namesake and public gets a democratic process as well as a good focus on the song. Not only this, but the NF format would be interesting and no doubt bring in viewers and maybe become popular in its own right.

I would send this suggestion through the complaints or to the team, but I won't wast my efforts. The BBC delegations doesn't listen or give two shits about what the fans would like to see in our entries.

That would certainly make eurovision an event lasting several weeks, instead of one night. I do like it very much. However a much simplified version that still include a somewhat democratic process would be for the BBC to choose an artist - they then sing 5-8 songs and the viewers vote for the best. The song with the most votes then becomes our song. I believe this how it was done a few decades ago?

But anyways you should seriously send your suggestion in to the BBC. Who knows they might read it? :)

I changed the format so it is two shows.
The NF with 5 songs and then the documentary before the contest.

I wouldn't know where to start with the suggestion and I really don't think they care about giving us a decent selection process tbh.

I think The Hit is a good idea but RTE launched it at too big a level as a brand and it sort of flopped even if you consider the summer ratings slump. Whoever buys it would need to change aspects of it.

I'm not sure if it will be good or bad news but the dire head of BBC entertainment has been promoted out of his role of comissioning. So there will at last be a new leader at the top of the department. It could lead to a different interest but it won't be next year I would imagine. Anyone one of the UK forum members can say how bad his programs have been for BBC One for entertainment 2009-2013. He will still have influence but will mainly work on The Voice and editorial standards.

Wow that means that there is a good chance there will be change in our eurovision song. Likely though someone similar to his tastes etc will replace him.

Where did you find this out?

Any change is a good change imo. I want to see things being changed and done differently, at least then it means we get a varying approach or thought-process.

Media Press release from Broadcast, Mark Linsey will still have his hand in entertainment as a whole but will work more to promote brands and fill in for others where needed. So it is highly likely a new person will be OKing the ideas put forward or the team will have more say for themselves, whether they are good or not we won't know as of yet. Jay Hunt and Danny Cohen as general controllers of BBC One destroyed Entertainment since around 2005 so hopefully entertainment and Charlotte Moore have some better prospects for BBC One in the future. It won't be immediate and highly unlikely for next year, but perhaps new ideas can emerge in 15 and 16.

Could we also get a list of ALL the people involved with BBC Eurovision currently and their known roles? It would be good to know who to contact directly, as the complaints system doesn't work and UK Eurovision fans are extremely frustrated and it seems no one is listening or paying attention, so a more direct approach may be necessary.

An interesting team. I googled them and if the photos of them i saw are correct then i find it shocking and Surprising that people who look reasonably young, would pick people such as Englebert Humperdink and Bonnie Tyler to represent us.

If you look through their twitter at the time the logic seemed gay icon = Eurovision Results

Ugh? Why do people miss the "Song Contest" part of it? Really annoys me.

Because they're simpletons with half a brain cell to share between them. I would have them all fired.

You should be a genuine fan and enthusiast of the show imo, to be a producer or whatever on ANY show I'd expect this.
I mean there's some huge news today and we've had silence from the BBC, yet if it was run by enthusiasts you'd see them getting excited about it and really gearing up for the coming year. Yet once again the UK, gets nothing.

SVT posted a massive paragraph on facebook earlier getting really excited for 2014, not that I could understand any of it, but the passion was there, and unsurprisingly the fans were happy with the broadcaster.

Seeing fans happy on the bbc's eurovision facebook page is a huge rarity and that says it all imo.

Well to the BBC eurovision is just an event on the calender. The only time it makes it to the news is when our song and artist is announced - Its mentioned on the dinner and tea time news each night for 2/3 days, then there suddenly a high increase in eurovision related questions on tea time game shows, and then 2/3 weeks before the final they advertise the hell out of it at prime time telly.

That is the only time they seem to take an interest and that is purely to get best viewing figures they can.

It's a shame. It doesn't need to be flogged constantly on tv, I think it does well for promotion on tv, you only need to use tv promotion really when it is coming up. I'm talking about things like the BBC twitter and facebook accounts. It's not exactly headline news that EVERYONE needs to talk about, but I think it should be news the UK delegation encourages the fans from the UK to talk about. I wouldn't be surprised if the UK delegation had absolutely no idea today happened. It would just be nice to know the team cares and is passionate about the contest, just like they make out in answers to complaints.

I know what you meant - I was just saying that it only ever makes any real news when they want to advertise it. I'm sure they would of heard about it - but just didn't see the need to put it up on the BBC Facebook page or BBC website. I checked the BBC Eurovision page in case there was anything up on there but no surprise there was no mention there. I'm sure the page wont be updated until march 2014.
